Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 214: Leng Pan's Regret

Lu Zhen watching all this from the transmission of the meteorite didn't know what the compression seal was or what vanishing protocol meant, but he could feel his heart almost stop beating.

He felt genuinely scared even though he didn't know why he would have such a feeling when this was a memory, probably from his past life.

However, he saw himself in the past run out of the gate again when he heard Leng Pan's command. He grabbed her hand and tried to pull her into the city.

"Please, come into the city with me." He was practically begging.

He was all bloodied from the battle and had injuries of various degrees.

However,Leng Pan was like a stone, unmoving.

"I cannot go into the city. Someone had to hold these monsters off until the process is completed." She said and suddenly, Lu Zhen realized that Leng Pan's water ability had a lot of potential to grow.

A huge wave like a tsunami appeared out of nowhere and headed straight for the enemy who were still pressing and trying to invade the city.

Some drowned but the zombies were undead, unless the brain was destroyed, they couldn't drown.

This wave only slowed them down, but it also drained a lot of her power.

"Then I will stay here with you. Let's protect the city together." Lu Zhen declared but was immediately rejected.

"No, go back into the city. Those people need a leader." Leng Pan insisted.

However Lu Zhen stubbornly stayed put and refused to let Leng Pan go.

Seeing that the gate was about to close completely, Commander Leng suddenly looked at Lu Zhen and stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the lips.

It was a passionate and violent kiss, which Lu Zhen responded immediately.

When he was completely hooked and immersed in the kiss, he suddenly felt his body fly backwards.

Before he could register what had happened, his body stopped moving backwards right inside the gate that now had a gap too small for him to pass through.

Commander Leng stood on the other side looking at him with monsters and zombies approaching behind her.

She smiled at Lu Zhen who had his eyes wide in horror and smiled.

"I love you." She didn't say it out loud, but he could read the words from the movement of her lips.

Understanding what she was saying, Lu Zhen felt hot tears roll down his cheeks.

How could she push him back to safety and stay outside to die? Did she really think he could survive without her?

As these thoughts swirled in his head, the gate closed completely and the space above the city also gained a cover ensuring that nothing could fly inside.

The walls of the city suddenly started to fade, as if turning transparent. Lu Zhen now understood what the vanishing protocol meant.

The city was becoming invisible, probably disappearing to another place altogether.

However, outside the city that was already disappearing out of sight, Commander Leng was still engaged in a battle to the death with the enemy.

Before he could see what happened after that, Lu Zhen was ejected from the memory.

He opened his eyes and found that Leng Pan was also holding the meteorite and she had tears in her eyes.

He didn't need to ask to know that she had probably seen the same thing as him. She was probably blaming herself for leaving him behind but even though he knew that that was another lifetime and everything was done and gone, he still felt hurt immensely.

Leng Pan opened her eyes and looked at her husband who was looking at her with a complicated expression.

She realized that he had also seen the memory of what she assumed must have been her last battle as Commander Leng.

Without a word, Leng Pan walked to Lu Zhen and hugged him in the waist tightly.

Although Lu Zhen was vexed by how she had pushed him to safety so easily and went to die alone, he also understood that it was because she loved him that she wanted him to survive.

In her shoes, he would definitely have done the same.

However, that knowledge does not erase the heartache of having to watch her throw her life away so that others could survive.

He wondered whether she would make the same choice if given the same options in this lifetime.

"Please, Baby, never do that to me again." Lu Zhen said with a tremor in his hoarse voice.

Apparently, both had accepted that the people they see when they touch the meteorite was them in their past life.

"I will never. Let's find a way to get rid of all zombies or monsters in the world before they get to that point.

From what I can deduce from that memory, it seemed that the entire earth had been overtaken by the monsters and zombies and that city was the only one standing.

If we can find a way to neutralize zombies or any other threat, then we wouldn't have to go through something so painful again." Leng Pan suggested as she thought about the possibility of finding a viable solution.

She hoped that she never had to get to a point where she would be forced to push Lu Zhen away just so that humanity can survive.

Lu Zhen heard his wife sniffle and knew that she was just as heartbroken as he was by the memory they had both seen.

He didn't want her to become heavy hearted because of that and start wallowing in guilt.

He could never want her to feel like she had let him down because she had not. Instead of choosing one person, she had simply chosen to save humanity and he could not blame her for being kind-hearted.

"Okay, Baby, don't cry. Everything is in the past. No need to feel guilty. We should look forward to the future. What is more important now is that we are together, right?" Lu Zhen comforted her as much as he could.

He really hated seeing her sad. No matter the reason.
