Reverse War Surpass Immortal

Chapter 88: Taking a Strong Approach

Duan Gujin and the Seventh Imperial Uncle entered the Imperial Guard camp together, with the Seventh Imperial Uncle taking out the Token, after which he ordered those three Chiliarchs to come see him.

However, after waiting for quite a while, no one came to greet them.

The Seventh Imperial Uncle said coldly, "I knew there would be trouble here!"

Duan Gujin nodded forcefully; this outcome was completely within his prior predictions.

Therefore, he took out a bag of Fire Poison Pills from his storage ring and handed them to the Seventh Imperial Uncle.

The Seventh Imperial Uncle had previously witnessed the potency of this kind of Fire Poison Pill; he knew no Alchemist in Country Gulai could cure the poison now.

Undoubtedly, using these Poison Pills to control others was the most fitting choice.

But what caused the Seventh Imperial Uncle and Duan Gujin's brows to furrow deeply was that, after a while, they still did not see any of the Chiliarchs.

The Seventh Imperial Uncle flew into a rage, and so he charged in with Duan Gujin.

They saw the three Chiliarchs in a room, and upon seeing the Seventh Imperial Uncle, the expressions on their faces were full of defiance.

Duan Gujin and the Seventh Imperial Uncle understood why they were acting this way upon seeing their demeanor.

"Duan Gujin, prepare for battle; if anyone intrudes, kill without exception!" the Seventh Imperial Uncle secretly sent through Qi transmission.

"Alright!" Duan Gujin nodded slightly; he still had a hunch about what the Seventh Imperial Uncle was going to do next.

The Seventh Imperial Uncle, holding the Token with a fearsome aura, went in and yelled at the three Chiliarchs.

"This is the command of the late Monarch, all of you kneel down and obey the order!"

Upon hearing the Seventh Imperial Uncle's words, the three Chiliarchs looked at each other, utterly bewildered; they did not know how to react.

"Kneel down!" The Seventh Imperial Uncle sternly rebuked with seriousness on his face.

Hearing the Seventh Imperial Uncle's stern rebuke, the three Chiliarchs hesitated for a moment, then finally decided to kneel down together.

They knew the Seventh Imperial Uncle was a true Imperial Uncle and, moreover, he had commanded them just three days ago.

Thus, the three Chiliarchs did not hesitate for long.

"Clang!"

A sound of drawing swords rang out, and instantly, three bloody heads lay on the ground.

The Seventh Imperial Uncle's sword was swift, catching the three Chiliarchs off guard.

Seeing the Seventh Imperial Uncle decapitate the three Chiliarchs, Duan Gujin slightly furrowed his brows but did not speak.

He could offer little help to the Seventh Imperial Uncle; on one hand, because the Seventh Imperial Uncle was far stronger than him, and on the other, he did not want to become too involved in the Imperial Family's power struggle.

Right now, the reason why he and the Seventh Imperial Uncle could stand on the same front was that they had a common enemy to face.

"Do you think I am cruel?" Just then, Duan Gujin heard the Seventh Imperial Uncle's transmission through Qi.

"Seventh Imperial Uncle, I don't think you are cruel! If you had not acted, these people would have razed your entire family, exterminating your line! We do this only to ensure the safety of our families!" Duan Gujin transmitted back in response.

"You've put it very well!" The Seventh Imperial Uncle nodded slightly, very satisfied with Duan Gujin's answer just now.

Duan Gujin knew little about Country Gulai; he knew that he should act together with the Seventh Imperial Uncle.

Seventh Imperial Uncle's mind moved, and he stored all three corpses lying on the ground into the storage ring.

Then, he cast a spell to wipe away all the traces of blood on the ground.

After completing all this, he went outside and summoned an orderly to gather all the centurions.

Seventh Imperial Uncle hurriedly took out a bottle of wine and thirty-one large bowls from the storage ring. He first sprinkled Fire Poison Powder into the thirty-one large bowls, then began pouring wine into the bowls.

Under each chiliarch were ten centurions.

Soon, thirty centurions stood before him.

Seventh Imperial Uncle waved his hand and shouted loudly to the thirty centurions: "Brothers, I am the Seventh Imperial Uncle of His Majesty the current Monarch. Today, I have been ordered to come here with only one purpose—to assure everyone. Before anything else, let us drink this cup of wine!"

The thirty centurions looked at each other, their faces filled with confusion.

The scene was silent for a moment.

"Let's drink, everyone! I will drink first as a courtesy!"

Seventh Imperial Uncle drank a cup of non-poisoned wine in one gulp, then urged everyone else to drink.

"Seventh Imperial Uncle, there is an order prohibiting alcohol in the army! Drinking wine here, we're already violating military discipline!"

A centurion quickly spoke up to stop him.

Seventh Imperial Uncle shook his head, saying: "Today is exceptional. Today, it's I, the Seventh Imperial Uncle, who is asking you to drink. Therefore, you must drink. This is a military order! Everyone must drink down; otherwise, I won't be pleased! Look, this is the command edict from His Majesty, you are all under my command! Now, I order you all, drink up! Those who do not drink will be treated as if they are defying a military order!"

Upon hearing Seventh Imperial Uncle's words, the centurions in attendance were all staring, faces filled with disbelief.

Upon further thought, they knew that Seventh Imperial Uncle wasn't deceiving them.

They had heard before that they had to follow orders from Seventh Imperial Uncle, a command handed down by the previous Monarch.

Therefore, after only hesitating for a moment, they all drank the wine in their bowls.

After the centurions finished drinking the wine, Seventh Imperial Uncle had them sit on the chairs in the great hall, and then he sat upright on a chair, telling the centurions the stories of his earlier military campaigns.

Those centurions felt puzzled and lost; they had no clue what kind of medicine Seventh Imperial Uncle was really selling in his gourd.

Moments later, the centurions felt that they could no longer circulate their Primordial Power.

"Damn it! We've been poisoned!"

The centurions all exclaimed in shock, and it dawned on them that all of this was Seventh Imperial Uncle's doing.

Seeing Seventh Imperial Uncle's serene appearance, they knew that they had guessed the truth.

"Why did Seventh Imperial Uncle poison us?"

A centurion couldn't help but ask.

"You've brought this onto yourselves!"

Seventh Imperial Uncle said coldly. He shouted at the centurions: "Do you know what crimes you have committed?"

"I truly have been wronged! Seventh Imperial Uncle, I really don't know what crimes we have committed! Please enlighten us, Seventh Imperial Uncle!"

A centurion started to cry, deep down feeling that today he might indeed meet his end here.

Only today did they receive the news that the Monarch had passed away.

To them, this was certainly not good news.

They all understood that the Monarch of Country Gulai was rather young and wouldn't have passed away for no reason. There had to be many undisclosed reasons behind it.

They all speculated that a coup d'état might have occurred in the palace of Country Gulai.

If a coup d'état had really taken place in Country Gulai, then they, the Imperial Guard, were likely facing an imminent crisis of being purged.

The reason was simple because the Monarch about to ascend the throne would see them, the Imperial Guard, as loyal to the previously deceased Monarch.

In order for the new Monarch to sit securely on the throne, naturally, they would try every means to eliminate the subordinates of the former Monarch.
