Chapter 20: Finding the Truth
Seeing the beggar running towards the dense forest, Duan Gujin's mind raced, but he really couldn't understand why the beggar wanted to run into a dense forest.
"Could it be that the beggar had noticed me early on?"
His mind raced, contemplating why the beggar would do so.
Initially, he suspected that the beggar had already detected his presence, but after following him for a while, he discovered that the beggar had entered an old temple located within the forest.
The temple was in extreme disrepair, barely able to shelter from the wind and rain in a small area.
And in that temple, there was actually another little beggar lying in a corner.
The little beggar was lying on a very worn bed, his face pale and bloodless, looking very frightening.
"Could it be that this temple is that beggar's home?"
Upon seeing this, Duan Gujin speculated that the temple was very likely the beggar's home.
Indeed, he soon saw the beggar run to the side of another little beggar.
The beggar fed some food to the one lying on the bed, then let the little beggar sleep.
Seeing this, Duan Gujin's eyes flickered uncertainly, feeling that with the identity of the little beggar, he shouldn't be someone likely to possess such a Yellow Grade Top-Grade Profound Weapon.
He extended his Divine Sense, sweeping over the temple where the two little beggars resided, only to find it very simple and saw many rats moving back and forth nearby.
After a while, Duan Gujin's eyes suddenly brightened.
"So that little beggar has a very severe disease! This kind of disease is not ordinary; he must be poisoned!"
Duan Gujin did not act, but instead continued to observe while hidden nearby.
About 15 minutes later, he saw the beggar leave the dilapidated temple and run to a pharmacy to fetch some medicine.
After the little beggar fetched the medicine, he hurried back to the temple and began to boil the medicine in a medicine pot.
As time passed bit by bit, Duan Gujin eventually could not wait any longer and immediately revealed himself.
When Duan Gujin appeared, the beggar's complexion drastically changed, and he quickly fetched a firewood knife from his bosom for self-defense.
"What do you want to do?"
The little beggar asked in fright.
"Don't be nervous! I mean no harm!"
Duan Gujin said lightly, and after a moment's thought, he understood why the beggar was so nervous.
"Have you been following me?"
The beggar's eyes flashed, realizing that Duan Gujin had indeed been tracking him earlier.
"It's fine, I just happened to bump into you. I originally wanted to greet you, but seeing you in such a hurry, I didn't greet you. I was just curious! It's strange to me, how could a beggar like you have such a good longsword, this is a treasure sword! Don't you find it a pity?"
Duan Gujin probed.
"This longsword was left to me by my father. Unfortunately, my father passed away early, and my brother needs money for his treatment, so I could only think of selling it!"
The beggar replied.
"Is that really so?" Duan Gujin laughed.
"Believe it or not!"
The beggar said irritably.
Duan Gujin chuckled dryly, knowing that the beggar was very likely lying.
Just then, the beggar lying on the bed suddenly woke up.
When he saw a young man appearing in front of his sister, he hurriedly shouted, "Sister, run!"
Hearing the little beggar call the beggar "sister," Duan Gujin's eyes suddenly brightened.
He extended his Divine Sense, scanning the beggar in front of him.
After a while, he confirmed that the person who sold him the Yellow Grade High-Quality Treasure Sword previously was a woman, and he deduced that the woman's age should be under twenty.
"Why do you disguise yourself in this way, you are clearly a woman!" Duan Gujin asked puzzledly.
"You don't need to know!" The woman coldly replied.
"Alright, I won't ask, I just want to know where you got this longsword from."
Duan Gujin got straight to the point.
"This longsword was my father's treasure. My father passed away, and I have no money on me, so I had no choice but to sell this longsword!" the woman said.
Duan Gujin, who was extremely observant, deployed his Divine Sense to lock onto the woman's body.
If the woman lied, he would be able to recognize it immediately.
What troubled him was that he hadn't detected any lies from the woman just now.
"Could this longsword really belong to that woman's father?"
Duan Gujin pondered for a while and then took a deep breath. He knew that this shouldn't be the issue he dwelled on.
Even if the woman was a thief, it had little to do with him, and he couldn't possibly use his Divine Soul to search her.
Seeing the young man still pestering his sister, the young man with somewhat unstable combat power immediately grabbed a kitchen knife, shouted loudly, and charged towards Duan Gujin.
"Brother, don't!"
Seeing her brother attacking Duan Gujin, the woman immediately panicked.
She had some martial arts skills, so she could judge whether Duan Gujin was strong or weak.
In her eyes, Duan Gujin was undoubtedly far superior to her.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have failed to notice that Duan Gujin had been following her earlier.
When she saw her brother take action, her expression changed drastically; she was afraid her brother might provoke this man.
Duan Gujin could tell that the young man who had been lying in bed had uncertain footing and had not released his Heavenly Dragon Martial Soul above his head.
Clearly, he had very little combat power.
If a cultivator wants to face an enemy with full force, they must release the Heavenly Dragon Martial Soul within them.
Only by releasing the entire Heavenly Dragon Martial Soul could a cultivator bring their combat power to its fullest.
Facing such an opponent, Duan Gujin wasn't in the mood to deal with him.
His body quickly dodged to the side, avoiding the young man's attack.
Seeing that Duan Gujin had walked away, the young man threw the kitchen knife at Duan Gujin.
"Brother, stop! This man isn't our enemy!"
Seeing this, the woman roared out.
Duan Gujin frowned slightly, and quickly dodged to the side again to avoid the young man's kitchen knife.
"Cough cough cough!"
At this moment, the young man suddenly started coughing.
The next moment, his legs gave out, and he knelt directly on the ground.
Dark blood quickly flowed from the corners of his mouth and rolled onto the ground.
Seeing this, Duan Gujin knew that the young man must have suffered a very serious internal injury.
"Quickly let your brother lie down! I truly am not your enemy!"
Duan Gujin immediately urged the woman to console her brother.
"Okay!"
The woman quickly rushed to the young man's side, soothed him a few words, then knocked her brother unconscious.
After her brother passed out, she placed him back on the bed.
"I'm sorry! I was just curious, I truly didn't have any ill intentions!"
Duan Gujin touched his nose. By now, he really didn't want to find out how that woman got that treasure sword.
"Come with me, I'll tell you!"
The woman's eyes flickered, and then she walked outside.
