Chapter 118: Assassin Attack
Duan Gujin was unable to determine whether those five people would truly act as he wished and report the occurrences here to the headquarters of the Star Pill Association.
"Even if those five do not act according to my script, I have ways to deal with them! As long as I am powerful enough, those people from the Star Pill Association wouldn't dare to touch me."
Afterwards, Duan Gujin found the Seventh Imperial Uncle and expressed his demands to him.
"Please, Seventh Imperial Uncle, ensure the safety of the Duan Family. If the Duan Family can be preserved, then do your utmost to preserve it!"
"Alright!"
The Seventh Imperial Uncle hurriedly nodded and agreed.
With the protection of the Seventh Imperial Uncle, Duan Gujin felt he no longer needed to worry about the safety of the Duan Family.
"There are still two years until the emergence of the Netherworld Treasure; I need to prepare well for it!"
The reason Duan Gujin was able to cultivate successfully after the destruction of the Duan Family in his previous life, was because, by a stroke of luck, he obtained a portion of the Netherworld Treasure.
Hence, it was only a portion of the Netherworld Treasure, but it was already enough for him.
"It is said that the Netherworld Treasure consists of three parts, and I was fortunate to obtain two of them. The whereabouts of the last part is still unknown—this is indeed somewhat regrettable!"
Duan Gujin took a deep breath, thought things through, and then decided not to enter the Green Cloud Sect for the time being.
"Entering the Green Cloud Sect now is really too early. If something unexpected happens due to my early appearance, that would definitely not be good for me!"
Past experiences made Duan Gujin realize that forcibly changing past events could lead to unexpected outcomes and even completely alter the entire finale.
Upon hearing that Duan Gujin had slain Cao Dingtian, the brother and sister from the Ye family were thoroughly convinced of Duan Gujin's authenticity.
Duan Gujin avenged their father's death; naturally, they were immensely grateful for Duan Gujin's great kindness and virtue.
Duan Gujin, on the other hand, hoped they would protect Mu Feiyan's safety.
In Duan Gujin's heart, most of the Duan Family were not worth saving, and he allowed the rest of the Duan Family to fend for themselves.
Of course, he would never allow Cao Dingtian's forces to go after the innocent people of the Duan Family.
Duan Gujin felt he had resolved the regret of the Duan Family's annihilation in his past life.
Next, his mission would be to head for the Green Cloud Sect.
But there was still nearly two years before his previous life's entry into the Green Cloud Sect, so he was not in a hurry to enter just yet.
His experiences in the Country Gulai made him realize a severe issue: If he forcibly changed certain past historical events, such as saving the Seventh Imperial Uncle whom he had no memory of in his previous life, then Cao Dingtian would instigate a political upheaval earlier than expected, catching him off guard.
What followed were events that completely took him by surprise.
He realized that any small change in detail could potentially cause a massive chain reaction in the future.
If he wasn't careful and triggered certain things, it could lead to inconceivable consequences.
After contemplating for a while, he decided he should wander outside for a year or two to enhance his cultivation before entering the Green Cloud Sect.
Thus, he stayed within the Imperial Palace to cultivate.
Then, on the evening of the next day, while he was sitting cross-legged on the bed, regulating his breathing,
Suddenly, the feeling of being stealthily watched abruptly surfaced in his mind, he instantly awoke to the realization that someone was secretly monitoring him.
Ill intent approaches!
He sensed a faint trace of killing aura in those eyes that secretly watched him from the dark.
Duan Gujin's eyebrows slightly furrowed, his eyes swiftly scanning through the night.
After a while, his gaze fixed on a false mountain ahead, where he detected faint breathing sounds and a heartbeat from behind it.
"Come out; I see you. You are in that false mountain ahead! Come out, there's no need to hide any longer!"
Duan Gujin quickly readied himself for combat, loudly calling out to the figure hidden behind the false mountain.
"Can't be, right? Have I really been discovered?"
After pondering for a moment, the figure hiding behind the false mountain felt he was indeed discovered by Duan Gujin.
So, he walked out from behind the false mountain.
"I really didn't expect Your Excellency to be so formidable. Despite my careful hiding, you were able to sense my presence; I am truly impressed!"
The figure spoke.
Duan Gujin sneered inwardly, his ability to sense that figure was because of his astonishing telekinesis.
And the reason for possessing such terrifying telekinesis was all thanks to his Demonized Martial Soul.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Duan Gujin inquired.
"I am a member of the Assassin Dynasty, and I was commissioned by someone to come here to kill you. However, my mission is over, as the person who hired me to complete this task has already died. So, there's no need for me to carry out the task."
The figure answered in a deep voice.
"Then I ask you, who is the person that commissioned you?"
Duan Gujin directly asked.
"It was Cao Dingtian, Prime Minister Cao."
The figure answered directly.
"Why do you tell me this?"
Duan Gujin was stunned for a moment. He had thought the figure wouldn't reveal who was behind the plot, but to his surprise, the figure directly told him that the mastermind was Cao Dingtian.
"Now that Cao Dingtian is dead, there's no need for me to create unnecessary complications!"
The figure said indifferently.
"Is that so?" Duan Gujin was somewhat incredulous.
"Yes! That's it!"
Duan Gujin's eyes flickered; he felt that the truth couldn't be so simple.
Could it really be that an assassin from an assassin organization would give up on a killing mission just because their employer was dead?
"Then, since you've given up on your mission, why are you still hiding here?" Duan Gujin pressed on.
"I'm observing the enemies of our Assassin Dynasty!"
The figure replied coldly.
"What do you mean?" Duan Gujin asked, puzzled.
"Cao Dingtian was formerly an assassin of our Assassin Dynasty. You killed him, so naturally, you've become the enemy of the Assassin Dynasty!"
The figure said flatly.
Hearing this, Duan Gujin came to a sudden realization.
"So that's it! It looks like I definitely can't let you go back alive today!"
Duan Gujin took a deep breath, and his body flashed, disappearing into the void.
"Don't be too hasty; I haven't finished speaking yet! Although Cao Dingtian and I are both assassins, we've had some past grudges, and I didn't get along with him. In fact, I was very hopeful that you would kill him!"
The figure said.
"Really?"
Duan Gujin appeared in the nearby void immediately.
Although he became visible, he remained highly vigilant to prevent the assassin from launching a sneak attack.
"No trick, every place has its power struggles! However, by ruining the plans of the Assassin Dynasty, it's unlikely that the higher-ups will let you off the hook!"
The assassin said.
"Then what do you suggest I do?"
Of course, Duan Gujin wouldn't easily believe the assassin's words; he just wanted to probe what the other was truly thinking.
"Who exactly is your Master?"
The assassin fell silent for a moment, then asked.
"Even if I told you his name, you might not recognize it!"
Duan Gujin's eyes flickered; he understood the reason why the other was not hostile towards him.
It turned out the assassin was wary of the Master who stood behind him.
"What level of Elixir Pills can your Master refine? Can your Master make Fifth-grade Elixir?"
The assassin eagerly pressed.
"Yes! But he is not here at the moment. Do you want my Master to help you refine a Fifth-grade Elixir?" Duan Gujin asked.
"Yes! Yes! I have a companion who has been poisoned, and I am looking for an Alchemist who can make Fifth-grade Elixir Pills!"
The assassin's eyes shone; he suddenly became excited.
"I've sought out many Alchemists before, but those Alchemists are simply unwilling to make Elixir Pills for assassins like us." The assassin sighed.
"You just admitted you're an assassin; those Alchemists wouldn't want to heal your companion only to possibly be killed by you afterward. Those Alchemists aren't fools!" Duan Gujin replied.
"You're right!"
The assassin looked at Duan Gujin, his eyes flickering a few times, and he seemed indecisive for a moment.
