Reverend Insanity: The Goody Two-Shoes System

Chapter 161: Make Gu Yue Village Great Again: Part One

In the Southern Border, atop Qing Mao mountain, there was a man who exited a scaled-up version of dollhouse. This man had long black hair and had a gentle expression, despite this his pitch-black eyes betrayed him for what he was: a demon. This was Gu Yue Fang Yuan, who had used the Spring Autumn Cicada to go back in time 500 years ago - and this is Fang Yuan's, a regressor's, tale of cultivation.

The soft soil crackled like rocks under Fang Yuan's footsteps. Although the ice had melted, bits and pieces of it were still lying around and most of what had been in contact with the sheet of ice still retained its coolness. The bright sun overhead would need to work overtime to get things back to a normal temperature.

In this case 'things' included people as well. Most of them were shivering with very little idea of what was going on. Some of them still had frost covering them in certain areas, and many of them were discovering the fact that while they had lived; their gu worms, sadly, had perished away with the cold. Human Path methods could do nothing for such.

Many people stumbled around like zombies, calling out for the names of their loved ones or trying to find them. Others were looking for shelter, still glancing at the sky as if thinking it would fall down on their heads and crush them.

Given the scale of damage done to the buildings, such a scene could've been taken right out of a war photograph after a town had been ravaged back on Earth, Fang Yuan thought to himself.

The door to the dollhouse opened and another person stepped out who looked identical to Fang Yuan, but had only Rank 2 cultivation and a much softer gaze. This was Fang Zheng.

"Let's gather everyone up," Fang Yuan said.

People began gathering all around Fang Yuan once he had used a gu worm to tell everyone in the village that it was safe to come out. "Relax, our ancestor is dead, and that demonic flying Gu Master from the Central Continent has fled."

"So you mean that he isn't dead?" several of them asked, immediately looking towards the sky, as if expecting another flock of cranes to arrive.

"Don't worry, don't worry, he was heavily wounded and is unlikely to come back," Fang Yuan said. "Additionally, I have a way of dealing with him even if he does. Regardless, we can't continue to keep hiding like scared little turtles, now then can we?"

"Where did all of this ice come from?"

"It was another attack from the demonic gu master," Fang Yuan said, not mentioning the Northern Dark Ice Soul Physique.

To say that casualties were high was an understatement. In Fang Yuan's first life, fewer people had died when the wolf tide had struck the village. Human Path methods, despite how good they were at healing, were still limited in their capacity to bring people back from the dead particularly when a long enough time interval had passed.

About 4,000 people in total had survived the events of the day. Gu Yue Bo, their former clan leader, had perished at the hands of Lord Sky Crane, being especially targeted for his high cultivation. Qing Shu was still alive as was Han Lin, along with four other elders; but there was no word of the others. In other words, more than half of the clan's elders were dead.

Gu Yue Yao Ji had technically survived, but the cold and her age had damaged her aperture to the point that she was now Rank 2 Peak Stage, and could no longer be counted upon as an elder.

Speaking of, most of the elders could not fight or function properly because they had lost some of their key gu worms.

In such a scenario, they could only turn towards Fang Yuan to lead the village and rely upon his strength.

Most of the survivors had been either the very old or the very young, simply by the nature of those near the top of the mountain being the last to be targeted. These people could not fight either, and those who could were mainly logistics Gu Masters who were only Rank 1 and occasionally Rank 2.

Needless to say their combat strength had dropped a great deal. While their population was less than one-fifth of what it had been before, their offensive power was less than one-fiftieth of what it had been before.

Other than the Gu Yue clansmen, about 1,000 mortals had also survived. To Fang Zheng's great delight Shen Cui was not among them. For that matter, the Fang twins agreed that there was no need to look too hard or try too much in order to save their aunt and uncle.

Fang Yuan had his own plans for them, but that was only after he took full stock of the situation at hand.

Since he was relatively confident in his ability to deal with any threat that might appear, the next aspect to deal with was food.

The frostiness had damaged some of the stored food, and taken the moisture from some of it- while it would no doubt taste bad, it would do for the upcoming months.

The nearby farms, however, had been completely decimated as specks of ice were still embedded in the soil. The fish in the streams were nearly all gone, and the soil would not be ready to be tilled for another year even if they could find enough hands to work them.

The primeval spring itself had been damaged, though hopefully it could recover. Many of the gu worms within the clan's storage had also perished, and of those which had survived, there simply wasn't enough food to feed them. Several of them would have to be culled simply for the clan to survive and feed the more important gu worms.

The biggest casualty of this would no doubt be the clan's signature Moonlight Gu - many of the Moon Orchids were already withering away as the intense frost had permeated deep underground. Neither Fang Yuan nor the Dollhouse had any Wood Path methods to counter this. While there would always be enough for them to plant another stock, it could take months for the supply to reach the point where it would be enough to feed their gu worms given the high demand for the same. Almost all Gu Yue clansmen who fought relied upon the Moonlight Gu or one of its more advanced variants, after all, which also required Moon Orchid Petals to feed.

Fang Yuan had the survivors gather near the clan leader's pavilion in the afternoon. They had sent runners to the Bai and Xiong villages - which had fared far worse than the Gu Yue clan as they had been the first to be attacked by Lord Sky Crane. They each only had about 1,000 survivors.

"Good evening, fellow clansmen," Fang Yuan began. All eyes were on him- he was one of the few Gu Masters with a complete set of gu worms who could actually fight, and he had Rank 4 Peak Stage cultivation to boot. Naturally they were all drawn to him in this time of crisis like moths to a flame. "Today was a dark day- the darkest in perhaps all of our clan's long history. A demonic Gu Master descended from the heavens to kill us, and our ancestor, rather than being our saving grace ended up adding to our misery. However, the important thing is not what has happened up until this point, but rather what the future holds. The important thing is that we survived, and so long as we survived, we can continue. Where there is life, there is always hope. It is time for us to rebuild. To my Gu Yue clansmen, you must not look at this as the end. The foundation of our village still stands - many of the buildings are even intact and there are those which only need to be repaired to a slight degree. We can still rebuild. I promise you that this is merely the start of a bright, new, radiant dawn. We, together, will make Gu Yue Village great again!"

There were cheers at his proclamation before they died down.
