Reverend Insanity-Blood Venerable Ascension (New Version)

Chapter 57: Cornered to Death

In just a few moments, Chen Wei spent a large portion of his primeval sea, which was previously above half but now had drastically decreased. Despite this, he found his body still in a precarious state, with many of his bones fractured, but he is no longer at the brink of death as before.

More importantly, even though it was with great difficulty and pain, he now felt that he could move his body to a certain extent.

Without much thought, he gritted his teeth and, summoning all the strength he could muster in his arms, pushed himself backward without hesitation, even as the pain in his arm muscles grew increasingly intense, feeling as though they might tear.

"Argh... ahh," Chen Wei let out a low groan of pain as his back hit the wall of the water dome once more, but this time at a speed that wouldn't break his bones.

Using the wall as support, he managed to completely lift his body with immense difficulty, suppressing the even greater pain now coursing through him. He maintained a straight posture, as if proudly showing that he was unfazed by such a powerful attack, while his eyes attentively analyzed the battlefield before him.

He quickly noticed that the previously empty area around him—devoid of any Gu Masters for hundreds of meters—was no longer so. Now, numerous Gu Masters, mostly women with strong, lean builds, were advancing toward him. Their expressions ranged from serious to excited, eager, and ambitious, all carrying a clear intent to kill.

'It seems I was sent flying into an area dominated by Gu Masters from the Xiong Mao Clan...' he thought lightly, considering his situation to be somewhat fortunate under the circumstances.

This was because the Xiong Mao Clan specialized in the Strength Path, meaning the majority of their Gu Masters followed this path. Especially among the elites, who rarely deviated from the clan's main path.

So in this moment, surrounded by these Gu Masters, they would have to get close him to kill him. This was unlike the Feng Zhi Clan's Gu Masters, who by now would already be bombarding him with wind blades. Given how low his primeval essence was and the critical state of his defensive Gu, following the collapse of his blood armor, it wouldn't have taken long for him to die under such ranged attacks.

Of course, the same risk applied to the Xiong Mao Clan's Gu Masters. If they got too close, they could easily beat him to a pulp before the He An Clan reinforcements, which he could see rushing to save him in the distance, could reach him. Since these reinforcements, likely sent under his grandfather's orders, were mostly being intercepted by enemy Gu Masters.

Despite being in a situation that would leave many desperate, Chen Wei's mind remained sharp and quick, even as his body struggled. He had already formulated a plan.

With this in mind, he placed a wide, arrogant smile on his face, his eyes radiating an unshakable killing intent. He showed no sign of pain or helplessness.

Using the remnants of his primeval essence, he formed a blood sword, draining his primeval sea to a critically low level. Swinging the blood sword through the air with an eager, hateful force, he prepared to meet the oncoming enemy.

By observing the aura of everyone advancing, Chen Wei could see they were all Rank 2. This was expected, as the Rank 3 elders, focused on the more intense battles, would not be in this peripheral area of the lake. Even so, he had prepared for the worst-case scenario in which an elder might be present. Now, with near certainty that this wasn't the case, he felt even more confident in his next actions as he began to speak.

"Who do you think I am?! Do you know my name?! Is Chen Wei!!You see me like this and think that any of you pathetic people can do something?! Even if I were missing all my arms and legs, I could still bite you all to death!!" Chen Wei shouted in a hoarse voice, sounding like a madman with an uncontrollable bloodlust and absolute confidence in his victory.

Amid these words, he laughed loudly while shifting his gaze between the several Gu Masters closest to him, who seemed slightly surprised by his act but didn't stop their advance.

"I'll truly enjoy killing you even more than I did those three pathetic elders!! Come faster—why do you hesitate?!" Chen Wei exclaimed, even though no one was actually hesitating, as he pretends to restrain himself from charging forward. "Hahaha! I cannot die! It's a fact—I cannot... but even if I could, my very soul would kill you all!!"

After finishing these words, which made him appear like a lunatic desperate to the very end, Chen Wei fell into complete silence for a brief moment. His bloodshot gaze remained fixed on the advancing enemy Gu Masters, who mostly showed little hesitation.

This reaction was expected. After all, even though a strong enemy who is insane, deranged, and with nothing to lose at death's door is intimidating, Chen Wei's near-death physical state emboldened the Xiong Mao Clan's Gu Masters. They seemed willing to take certain risks to kill him, a Rank 3 elder of the He An Clan, a talent capable of advancing to Rank 4.

Even so, Chen Wei could notice that some more cautious Gu Masters—perhaps wary of a trump card he might possess or less inclined to risk their lives or face the wrath of his grandfather—were slowing down. They clearly didn't want to be the first to confront him directly.

In any case, those who hesitated had indeed made the right choice in Chen Wei's eyes, for in his hands, he held a trump card: a Gu thousands of years ahead of this era—the BloodSoul Baby Gu!

This was a Gu capable of directly attacking a person's soul, which was already terrifying in itself. Given that no Gu Master in this era had any form of defense for their souls—or even knowledge of the existence of such a Gu—it was even more horrifying.

During his earlier fight against the three Rank 3 elders, due to his altered bloodthirsty state of mind and the desperation of the situation, which left him unable to think, acting purely on instinct, he ended up not using this Gu. However, this ultimately proved beneficial to him.

Now, as he plans to make full use of it and its horrifying effect, still unknown to all, he says nothing but maintains a crazed and bloodthirsty look on his face. He makes a fluid and precise cut on his leg, avoiding any vital arteries, but making it clear to all the enemy Gu Masters advancing against him that he truly injured himself.

At the same moment, using the little Primeval Essence he has left, and with a single thought, the BloodSoul Baby Gu is activated within his aperture. Without hesitation, it flies toward a relatively beautiful Gu Master who is closest to Chen Wei, shrieking horrifying cries that only she can hear. In the same instant her soul is brutally torn, devoured, and destroyed, causing her to collapse to the ground, screaming in pain and despair, sending a shiver of fear through everyone present.

Chen Wei, however, paid no attention to their reactions. Without uttering a word, he cut himself two more times in the same manner, with small intervals between each cut, while controlling the BloodSoul Baby Gu to eliminate enemy Gu Masters who appeared less horrified or hesitant upon seeing the Gu Master writhing on the ground, now lifeless.

"Why have you stopped advancing, cowards?! Do you remember who I am now? The Blood Prince! A horrible name, yet one feared by all of you. And you thought you could kill me?!" Chen Wei's gaze is more intense than ever, as though daring everyone to take even a single step forward.

But no one did. In fact, many shamelessly retreated several meters back, their eyes filled with terror, as if seeing their past selves—those who had advanced seconds earlier—as utter fools.

And it's no wonder. In the past, Chen Wei had killed three elders who fought him simultaneously, nearly losing his life in the process. And now, with his "trump card," still entirely unknown to them, he had slain three Rank 2 elites, widely reputed for their defensive capabilities and life-saving measures. In their eyes, he did all this simply by lightly cutting himself, as if it were nothing.

This can be summarized as: appearing to be a crazed, insane individual willing to kill and maybe possessing the means to do so has made many with weak hearts or a lack of willingness to sacrifice for the clan hesitate to advance. Now, with certainty that this madman cornered by death has a trump card capable of killing them effortlessly, no one without the same level of insanity dared to continue forward.

Chen Wei even imagined their thoughts: "Was he really not bluffing? How many more times can he cut himself like this to kill us? What's the effective range of this trump card? Is there any way to avoid it? Why did I even try to kill someone with such a trump card? How can I retreat with all my strength without looking like a coward?"

Maintaining his act, Chen Wei let out a disdainful sigh before speaking loudly once more:

"I can keep cutting myself all day! But why don't you help me out?! Is there some damn Gu Master from Feng Zhi here? Cut me with one of your blades and try to finish the job your pathetic leader started! Go on—no one wants to prove me a fool after I said I can't be killed?"

He spoke while suppressing the pain of moving his body despite his grave injuries, spreading his arms as if provoking someone to attack him. The truth was, with the tiny sliver of Primeval Essence he had left, he could only use the BloodSoul Baby Gu twice more before running out entirely as for the Blood Armor Gu, there isn't even enough primeval essence left for a single use.

Thus, he intended to save it for emergencies, unwilling to waste it on someone advancing just a bit too far. Additionally, the effective range of the BloodSoul Baby Gu was shorter than that of the Wind Blade Gu, so even if he wanted to, he couldn't do much.

But none of the Gu Masters knew this. Oblivious to being manipulated by Chen Wei's act of madness and his reverse psychology, they did exactly what he wanted without considering it could be the case.

This nearly made Chen Wei smile as he glanced at the leader of Clan Feng Zhi, who, after attacking and nearly killing him, now found himself surrounded by the elders of He An Clan. They seemed concerned about Liu Ba's final trump card but didn't hold back from attacking as the Gu Masters surrounding Chen Wei did.

"After all, there's a difference between the determination, courage, and fighting spirit of Rank 2 elites and Rank 3 elders," Chen Wei thought as his gaze shifted from the leader of Clan Feng Zhi, who now defended himself desperately, his expression reflecting a near-total loss of will to live.

Chen Wei knew that expression was likely because he had survived, and the leader of Clan Feng Zhi no longer believed in his ability to escape the encirclement or avoid subsequent capture or death.

"Order a retreat, everyone!! This battle is lost! The only outcome if we stay here is a massacre!" Ye Nui, the leader of Clan Xiong Mao, shouted, her voice echoing across the battlefield and pulling Chen Wei out of his thoughts.

Chen Wei was surprised by this sudden turn of events and Ye Nui's abrupt declaration, especially as he wondered how they planned to retreat with the water dome trapping everyone inside. But turning his head toward the source of her voice, he saw the beautiful Ye Nui drenched in blood, large cuts across her body seemingly caused by water blades.

And yet, she continued fighting fiercely against her opponent, the strongest Rank 4 Gu Master of Longhua Mountain, Wang Xi. However, the key detail in their fight wasn't the clash itself but the large opening Ye Nui had somehow created in the water dome, which she now defended with all her might.

For not just the Gu Masters surrounding Chen Wei but everyone on the battlefield, this was like a signal from their own. They retreated en masse toward the opening without hesitation, with even most of Clan Feng Zhi's Gu Masters abandoning their leader and elders who hadn't retreated, not looking back even once.

In this total retreat, the Gu Masters of Clan He An could do nothing but follow. But this wasn't Chen Wei's focus, as at that moment, a large blue jet of water crashed down beside him. Emerging from the stream was Chen Wang, who didn't hesitate for a moment, creating a water barrier around them and using all his strength to heal Chen Wei.

"It was about time..." Chen Wei thought, barely listening to his grandfather's words as he focused most of his attention on the relief that his body was no longer in a near-crippled state, riddled with constant pain at even the smallest movement.
