Return to the City: The Strongest King

Chapter 1497: Pushed Too Far (Part 3)

Song Xiaodong immediately began treating Lin Su'er's father.

Lin Su'er's father was indeed seriously injured, but with Song Xiaodong's current medical skill, it wasn't difficult to handle. After a little over an hour, Song Xiaodong finished up.

Surprisingly, Lin Su'er's father quickly regained consciousness.

"Su'er... Song..." Upon seeing Lin Su'er and Song Xiaodong, Lin Su'er's father was first surprised and delighted, then a somewhat panicked look appeared in his eyes.

Lin Su'er's heart suddenly softened. Her father was just a thug and a bully, always looking fierce in her memory. This fragile look in his eyes was truly something she was encountering for the first time. Her father actually seemed to be afraid of her now.

"How are you feeling now?" Lin Su'er asked softly.

Her father quickly replied, "No...it's nothing, such a minor injury is nothing at all. I've endured much worse injuries and got through them just fine."

Lin Su'er, with a tone of blame, said, "You used to be young, but now you're older. Do you still think you're a young man? Luckily, Dongzi came back to treat you, or else do you think you'd have woken up now?"

"Thank you... thank you!" Lin Su'er's father assumed Song Xiaodong had found a good doctor, so he didn't think much of it.

Song Xiaodong nodded and said, "Take a few days to rest; you'll be fine in a few days."

Her father quickly said, "Even though I'm older now, I'm still in great shape, absolutely fine. But I didn't go looking for trouble; they brought it to our home, and it was self-defense. He wanted to make sure Song Xiaodong and Lin Su'er didn't think he was out causing trouble again.

Lin Su'er rolled her eyes at her father and said, "I know, Aunt Liu already told me."

Her father glanced at Liu Dongmei and quickly added, "This isn't her fault. Those bastards are real jerks, coming to my home and strutting around. Did they think I wouldn't fight back? If this were a few days ago, I would have beaten them all, leaving none of them able to get out."

"You're starting again?" Lin Su'er immediately frowned.

Her father hesitated for a moment, then coughed lightly and said, "Yes, yes, it's all in the past. I'm not who I used to be; I don't fight anymore. I don't even know how to fight now."

Saying this, he seemed a bit desolate... like a hero past his prime, although this hero was just a thug.

Lin Su'er's father has accepted his age. Even though he is not yet fifty, he realizes that this is not his time anymore, that he no longer understands the world around him, that the 'Jianghu' is no longer what it used to be.

A few years ago, he tried to resist, wanted to continue messing around, but now he truly knows he's no longer up for it. The world belongs to the young.

Of course, the main thing is, after spending a few months with Liu Dongmei, he has come to like this woman who washes his clothes and cooks for him, letting him experience the happiness of being cared for by a woman. He doesn't want to cause any more trouble; he wants to be an ordinary person.

Lin Su'er's father hasn't spoken these things aloud, but Song Xiaodong can see a little bit from the sorrow in his eyes.

This is certainly a good thing. 'Mixing', really, is about being reckless and fearless. Once you have attachments, it's hard to continue that lifestyle, meaning they won't have to worry about or hesitate to help him anymore.

"Uncle Lin, Aunt Liu, what are your plans for the future?" Song Xiaodong suddenly asked.

Aunt Liu was amazed that Lin Su'er's father woke up so quickly and realized that Lin Su'er's boyfriend was indeed impressive, immediately saying, "As soon as Old Lin's leg heals, I'll leave."

Lin Su'er's father's lips moved slightly, but he said nothing.

Song Xiaodong smiled and said, "Uncle Lin, if you have any thoughts, just say them."

Being called Uncle Lin by Song Xiaodong surprised him, bringing some comfort, followed by a little embarrassment. He bit his lip and said, "I don't fear your ridicule. I used to always be alone, but now I want to settle down, find a companion. I want to live with your Aunt Liu."

"Ah... Old Lin, you..." Aunt Liu's face turned red, and she stammered, unable to speak. At this age, she shouldn't be so shy, but saying such things in front of someone's children was quite embarrassing.

Song Xiaodong nodded and said, "That's a good thing; Su'er and I are busy, and we don't have much time to take care of you. You should have a companion. I think Aunt Liu is great. Aunt Liu, what do you think about this?"

Aunt Liu, with a flushed face, said, "I know Old Lin is a good person, but my ex-husband... I really can't be with him. This isn't helping him; it's harming him."

Song Xiaodong said, "You don't need to worry about that. If you want to be with Uncle Lin, I'll help you deal with your ex-husband, making sure he won't bother you anymore."

Aunt Liu, incredulous, said, "But...he's difficult to deal with."

Lin Su'er's father, cracking a smile, said, "Song... this Song Xiaodong, those guys are really tough. I know you're savvy in that world, but I really don't want you to mix in that world anymore. I don't want Su'er to be afraid alongside you. I now truly understand how Su'er's mother felt originally."
