Chapter 29: How to defeat a God
Nymeria told me that swordsmen treat the sword as their limb, and losing a sword directly means losing a crucial part of yourself. So even when I was flown hundreds of feet and struck so many things, I didn't let go of my sword.
I grunted and pushed myself up again, pointing my sword towards him as he followed me.
His body was radiating a purple glow, withering anything it touched as he moved.
He stopped a few feet in front of me. Then, clenching his fist, he threw a punch into the air at me.
"What is he doing, punching the air?" I muttered in confusion.
However, I instinctively felt something wrong and instantly tilted my head.
A gust of sharp wind passed by my ear, slicing through it and splattering blood.
"Ugghh, what the hell was that?" I wheezed, grabbing my bloody ear.
I turned, and my entire body trembled at the sight behind me.
The tree had a hole about the size of my head going all the way out from the other side.
"How-how am I supposed to defend from this," I muttered, holding my sword tightly.
When Jambavan threw the punch, he smashed the air itself—forcing it to lunge at such a terrifying speed that it destroyed everything in its path.
I had already predicted that I might face an unforeseen situation because I didn't know the extent of Jambavan's abilities.
But I didn't think that it would be this illogical.
Jambavan wasn't even giving me time to think of anything. He had already clenched his fists—both of them this time—and began the onslaught again.
"Screw this, screw you, screw everything," I snapped, showing him a middle finger and shouted,
"Lightning Bolt!"
Two spheres of lightning appeared below my feet and as they blasted, I was launched into the air towards him.
When I began descending, I pointed the tip of my blade outward.
Just before the moment my sword could reach him, he raised his arm and smashed the air directed right at the hand I was holding my sword with.
I was too close—there was no chance of dodging. I just clenched my teeth and loosened my grip.
The condensed wind struck my hand, tattering the skin apart, spilling the blood, and destroying every bone in the arm.
I grabbed my falling sword with the other hand and pierced through his fist, lodging the sword straight into his forearm.
"Lightning Bolt,"
I whispered, embedding lightning directly into his bones.
Then I placed my feet on his massive hand, pulled back my sword, and fell to the ground as blood splattered from his arm onto my body.
He took some shaky steps backward, giving me a moment of time to collect myself.
I hadn't noticed before, but now that I looked—the wracked land, corroded trees, claw marks on the bark, and the giant rock standing behind Jambavan—this was the same place I fought him the first time.
I must have reached here when he sent me flying into the forest.
My mind began to relax, but suddenly a thought popped up. When Jambavan used the Berserk skill, Vivi mentioned that his pain tolerance is infinite, so as long as he is conscious, he wouldn't stop fighting. So why wasn't he attacking me?
My gut told me something wasn't right.
I immediately got up, ignoring the pain in my body, as I held the sword with the left hand whose shoulder was already dislocated.
My eyes began to scan the surroundings. Jambavan was standing beside the rock.
This was how I first met him.
I couldn't see clearly because he was a little distance away, but I knew he was up to something horrifying again.
I dragged myself forward on unsteady legs to get a clear view.
That bastard was trying to lift up the massive rock which was already double the size of him.
I needed to stop him. I had firsthand experience of the damage this rock could cause.
But my body refused to co-operate. No matter how much strength I put into my legs, they didn't move with the speed needed to reach Jambavan. I was only halfway there and he had already lifted that mountainous rock on his hand.
He let out a deafening howl and hurled it at me.
"Tchh, I didn't want to use this attack because I thought I might kill you." I sighed and closed my eyes. "But I guess I have no choice, since it's come down to this,"
I put my left foot forward, raised my arm holding the sword, and as that giant rock came closer, I swung my sword in a vertical motion and whispered,
"Thunder Slash."
A crackling arc of intense and sharp lightning emerged from the Vajra, turning its steel blade into gold, and sliced the piece of that rock in half as the two cut pieces passed from both sides of me.
The arc didn't stop there. It was never intended to. Because that rock wasn't the one I was targeting.
It struck Jambavan, slashing a deep cut across his torso. Blood splattered from his body like a fountain and he came down to his knees.
However, that wasn't the end of it. It wasn't just a normal slice attack. It carried the essence of lightning.
So,
The shock followed, vibrating his entire body with electric pulses as he finally fell down.
I slowly moved my shaking legs toward him.
I was so tired I could pass out at any moment, but I didn't—or couldn't, I should say. There was still one last task left to do.
I stood in front of Jambavan's massive body as he lay unconscious on the ground. I sat down beside him, dropped my sword, and touched him with the only hand I had left.
"Vivi, activate All-Devouring Breathing Technique," I whispered, the voice barely leaving my lips.
"Cursed Beast detected!
Activating All-Devouring Breathing Technique…
Absorbing the cursed Soulforce…"
Ding...
