Restart, Spider-Man!

Chapter 197: Restart, Spider-Man! [197]

Darkness swept in, and amidst the all-encompassing hellfire, Xia Luo lost consciousness.

[You have been eliminated. Resurrection opportunity forfeited. Soul strength +1%.][32 restart attempts remaining. Restart?]

Floating within the cosmic web, Xia Luo awoke and began processing the information he had gathered from Old Man Steve and the others.

At the same time, his body emitted a faint, radiant glow. A tingling sensation from deep within his soul sent him into an indescribable state of euphoria.

It was hard to put into words.

It felt like an ascension, or perhaps like brushing against some unknown, mysterious realm.

The next moment, an intricate cosmic web appeared in his mind.

The web was interwoven with countless world bubbles. At its center, a grotesque spider-like creature was curled up, a massive leech totem coiled around its body. Strange, sinister energy rippled outward, spreading across the web.

In an instant, Xia Luo's eyes snapped open, his expression shifting.

"What was that just now?"

"The Web of Life and Destiny!"

He frowned. What he had just witnessed was likely the Weaver imprisoned by the Inheritors.

The Weaver, the totemic god of the Spider-Men, enslaved by the Inheritor family?

Or was it that the Inheritors were truly that powerful?

Either way, the Web of Life and Destiny was the source of the Spider-Men's powers, and the leech totem seemed to be corroding it.

If it succeeded, the Spider-Men across the multiverse would face annihilation.

And as one of them, Xia Luo wouldn't escape unscathed either.

But…

For now, the resurrection tournament was more important.

Xia Luo stood up, feeling noticeably lighter. He guessed this newfound ease was due to the boost in his soul strength.

This improvement allowed him greater control over his body's powers and possibly came with other perks.

Without further thought, he tapped [Restart].

A ripple of energy swept through the void. Xia Luo found himself once again atop the massive dragon's skull.

"Caw, caw!"

Two black, monstrous birds observed the sudden appearance of the "bug."

Xia Luo, meanwhile, surveyed his surroundings.

According to Clint's information, 300 meters ahead of the dragon's left forelimb lay a soul altar.

This was the exact opposite of the direction he had gone last time.

Mephisto's plundered souls from the multiverse typically entered this hellish world via the altar.

Guarded heavily, Old Man Steve and the others hadn't dared to act rashly.

While Steve had been gathering intel, he had stumbled upon Xia Luo.

Now, however, Xia Luo had no time to inform Steve and the others.

Hell was a world where electromagnetic communication didn't work. He could only rely on the chaos he was about to stir up to draw their attention.

The countdown ended.

Before the monstrous birds or the surrounding wraiths could converge, Xia Luo immediately switched into his electric arc form, disappearing from the dragon's skull in an instant.

Zzt-zzt!

In mere seconds, the electric arc streaked through the towering bone structures.

As the arc faded, Xia Luo landed atop a rooftop, where a massive circular soul altar, spanning dozens of meters in diameter, came into view.

The altar brimmed with hellfire, surrounded by over a hundred grotesque wraith soldiers with sharp fangs and claws.

Nearby, a row of pitch-black stone houses caught Xia Luo's eye.

Whenever the hellfire of the soul altar dimmed, the wraith soldiers would drag a soul into one of the dark stone houses.

Faint, anguished screams could be heard from inside the houses, sending a chill down Xia Luo's spine.

Mephisto plundered souls from the multiverse just to torture them?

Something didn't add up.

But the truth didn't matter right now. What mattered was whether Tony was here.

Before Xia Luo could act, familiar figures emerged on the street below.

The Black Order carefully surveyed the altar and its surroundings, whispering among themselves.

Xia Luo froze mid-step.

Were these guys planning to attack the soul altar?

No time to think. He needed to get inside first.

Zzt-zzt!

In a flash, the electric arc streaked past the altar and headed straight for the stone houses.

"Who's there?!"

"Damn it! Stop him!!"

"Oh, he smells amazing."

"A living human!"

The wraith soldiers erupted into chaos, surging toward the stone houses in a frenzy.

Meanwhile, in his electric arc form, Xia Luo sped into the houses. Any wraiths in his path were seared by the electricity, their agonized screams filling the air.

"Aaah!!"

"It burns!"

As Xia Luo's electric form lit up the dark interiors, souls of various species cowered in terror, their eyes wide as they shrank into the corners.

Sweeping his gaze over the souls, Xia Luo frowned.

"Not here. Next."

Zzt-zzt!

The arc surged into the next stone house, blazing a trail through more wraith soldiers without pause.

Buzz!

Xia Luo formed a seal with his hands, and seven clones, each an electric arc, darted into different stone houses, rapidly checking their interiors.

The search efficiency skyrocketed.

To the wraith soldiers, the battlefield became a blur of flashing arcs. They couldn't see what was attacking them—only that their comrades were collapsing one after another, their souls writhing in excruciating pain.

Finally, the true guardian of the soul altar appeared.

Clatter-clatter!

Ebony Maw hovered into view on a stone platform. With a wave of his hand, the stone houses lifted into the air, spinning wildly before disintegrating into rubble. The fragments coalesced into a towering stone giant, over 30 meters tall.

The arcs dissipated as Xia Luo reappeared, locking eyes with Ebony Maw and the Black Order gathered behind him.

So, the soul altar was guarded by the Black Order.

Not that Xia Luo had any interest in fighting past losers.

But his clones were about to expire, leaving him with only one option.

"Come forth, the real Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!"

Xia Luo's eyes glowed red and blue as he formed another seal. A massive spider totem illuminated the ground beneath him.

Buzz!

The light from the totem pierced the gloomy sky. Within what looked like a neon cityscape, a shadow swung between the high-rise buildings, growing more tangible by the second.

Thwip!

A red-and-blue figure landed, looking around in wonder.

"Where… am I?" the summoned Spider-Man asked, staring at Xia Luo.

Before Xia Luo could answer, the stone giant's massive fist came crashing down.

BOOM!!!

The ground shattered, and the summoned Spider-Man was instantly reduced to a pulp.

Buzz…

The remains of Spider-Man dissolved into countless red-and-blue particles, which returned to the neon cityscape projection.

Watching the projection's Spider-Man glance around nervously, Xia Luo dismissed the glowing spider totem beneath him with a thought.

The summoned Spider-Man couldn't die permanently.

That was a good thing.

Still, the first summon was ridiculously weak—didn't even have Spider-Sense.

Trash.

This summoning skill was clearly all about luck.

Clatter-clatter!

Ebony Maw sent the stone giant charging toward Xia Luo, while Black Dwarf and the others closed in from all sides.

"Earth's superhero," Ebony Maw sneered, "time to die again."

Xia Luo shook his head. "To deal with you guys? Let's go with this."

With that, he brought his hands together at his waist. Blue light flared to life.

BOOM!!!

A fierce wind erupted as a flood of blue spider silk surged outward, engulfing the Black Order and the surrounding wraith soldiers.

"Rise!"

With a deafening roar, Xia Luo unleashed 200 tons of force, hurling the ensnared enemies skyward.

"Nooo!!"

Screams echoed as the blue webs flung them toward the distant volcano, their bodies disappearing into the horizon.

On the street, Old Man Steve looked up, spotting the enemies being sent flying.

"It's Spidey! He's here!!"

Clapping his hands in delight, he rushed toward the soul altar.

When he arrived, all he found was chaos and devastation.

Xia Luo was long gone.

---

Zzt-zzt!

At this moment, an electric arc streaked into a massive snake-bone structure.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Zzt-zzt!

Boom!

Explosions of red and blue magical energy erupted, spreading fire across the snake-bone building. One by one, hellish robots were hurled into the air by the violent heatwaves.

Crash!

Crack!

Through the gaping holes left by the explosions, Xia Luo stomped on the head of a hell robot, shattering it into pieces.

Before him stood a green-skinned alien with antlers, making Xia Luo's frown deepen.

This wasn't the right place either.

This mechanical base was the only one in Bone City. If Tony wasn't here, then what was Mephisto's purpose in taking him?

Glancing at his watch, Xia Luo saw there were only 30 minutes left.

He had to move faster.

Turning slightly, he saw a group of wraith soldiers charging toward him, weapons raised high.

His expression unchanged, Xia Luo yanked on the crystalline spider silk beside him. Instantly, the approaching wraiths were shredded into fragments by a hidden web trap.

Clap, clap, clap.

A familiar figure emerged from the direction of the snake skull, clapping slowly, a mocking smile on his face.

It was Hydra Steve.

"Impressive as always, Spider-Man. Even in Hell, you're just as strong as before. Truly despair-inducing."

Xia Luo raised an eyebrow at the sight of Hydra Steve.

"Looks like you've been doing well for yourself here."

Hands clasped behind his back, Hydra Steve turned to gaze at the towering volcano outside the window.

"Not bad. At least I'm not stuck in a prison cell."

He gave Xia Luo a sidelong glance before pointing at the massive volcano.

"I don't know what you're looking for, but that place seems worth checking out. Don't you think?"

The seemingly helpful suggestion carried an unmistakable undertone of malice.

Xia Luo understood this guy all too well, but the suggestion happened to align with his plan.

"Of course, I'll check it out. But before that, when are you planning to make your move?"

"Make my move?"

Hydra Steve shook his head. "I can't beat you, so I'll let it slide this time."

Xia Luo shrugged. "Fine by me. Killing you again would just be boring. I've done it way too many times—it's gotten old."

Hydra Steve: "..."

"In that case, let's make sure we never meet again." His face darkened as he turned to leave.

Xia Luo couldn't help but chuckle.

This guy was predictable. Always scheming, but resigned to failure when his plans fell apart.

Hydra Steve, who had never once beaten Xia Luo, had clearly accepted his fate.

As he walked away, Xia Luo called out to him.

"Wait. I want to ask you something."

"Hm?"

Hydra Steve turned back, his eyes narrowing as realization dawned.

"We're not on good terms, so I won't say anything about your parents. Kill me if you want—that's my answer." He smirked coldly.

"No."

Xia Luo shook his head. "I just wanted to know… does Carter have a mole on her thigh?"

Hydra Steve: "!!!!"

"You bastard! I'll kill you!!"

With a furious roar, Hydra Steve lunged, shaking the entire snake-bone structure.

Moments later, Xia Luo walked out of the ruins, shaking his head in exasperation.

"Killed him again. Why does he keep pushing me?"

With a sigh, he noticed only ten minutes remained.

Clint's intel pointed to one last suspicious location—the massive volcano.

Ten minutes should be just enough time.

With that thought, Xia Luo transformed into an electric arc and vanished from the scene.

Zzt-zzt!

Shooting forward like lightning, Xia Luo sped across a lake of molten lava.

Before he could reach the volcano, the lake's wraith guards erupted in hellfire.

Boom!

A ring of blazing fire surrounded the electric arc. Emerging from the inferno was a figure all too familiar.

Clip-clop…

The sound of hooves echoed as the Ghost Rider, mounted on a flaming skeletal horse, charged out of the hellfire.

As the steed leapt into the air, the Rider cracked his fiery hell-whip with a deafening snap!

CRACK!

Hellfire surged through the whip, igniting the ground in a blazing inferno. The fiery explosion sent a massive column of molten rock shooting into the sky, splitting the land below into a thousand-meter-long chasm.

"No way… That's overkill," Xia Luo muttered, swallowing hard.

Amidst the swirling smoke and ash, Xia Luo's electric aura intensified.

Zzt-zzt!

Enclosed by the ring of hellfire, the arc detonated, propelling Xia Luo into the air.

Neighhh!

The skeletal horse let out an ear-splitting shriek as the Ghost Rider galloped through the sky. Though slower than Xia Luo, he used his hell-whip to target him relentlessly, leaving no room for escape.

Boom!

CRASH!

Each strike of the whip sent waves of hellfire cutting across the air, leaving Xia Luo boxed in as the flames consumed the entire sky.

"Intruder of Hell's forbidden grounds… Die!!"

The Ghost Rider's raspy voice bellowed with fury as the hellfire in his eye sockets swirled into a vortex.

Buzz!

In an instant, the flames in the sky twisted into a black hole of soul-consuming power.

Caught in the terrifying pull of this vortex, Xia Luo's consciousness faded to black.

---

[You have been eliminated. Resurrection opportunity forfeited. Soul strength +1%.]

[31 restart attempts remaining. Restart?]

In the Cosmic Web, the pleasant sensation from deep within Xia Luo's soul slowly faded away.

With a steady hand, Xia Luo initiated his third resurrection attempt.

As the countdown ended, he cast a long glance at the massive hellish volcano in the distance before decisively opting for a detour.

If this were any other battlefield, the Ghost Rider with his little flaming horse wouldn't have been so terrifying.

But this was his domain. The lake of molten lava brimmed with boundless hellfire, and there was no way Xia Luo could beat him here.

Zzt-zzt!

An electric arc streaked across the landscape.

As Xia Luo distanced himself from the lava lake, he eliminated scattered, greedy wraiths along the way. However, no formidable foes appeared to challenge him.

That was until he came across a shadowy forest in the middle of the wasteland.

Standing at the edge of the dark forest, Xia Luo could faintly hear a chorus of anguished screams emanating from within.

Adding to the eerie atmosphere were black, monstrous birds circling endlessly above the treetops.

Without hesitation, Xia Luo decided to take another route.

The forest practically screamed danger—only an idiot would walk straight into it.

He rolled his eyes at the very thought.

Before he could decide which side to skirt around, the ground beneath his feet began to quake violently.

The surrounding earth upheaved, contorted by an unimaginably powerful and mysterious force.

It felt like the end of the world. The sky itself seemed to shatter as rows of massive, razor-sharp teeth tore it apart.

In the blink of an eye, Xia Luo's world was swallowed by darkness.

No. One more try!

Within the darkness, a radiant spider totem illuminated the void. From the virtual projection, a colossal mech quickly materialized into reality.

"Huh?"

Xia Luo blinked in surprise.

Spider-Man… piloting a mech?

Could it be…
