083: level 14



Yeah… I think I can pull this off.

I've emptied my reserves of shadows that I keep in Warp, and sent them all to do… exactly what I told the Resistance leaders to have their underlings do: Help the local authorities.

I task my existing crafters to building Locks of Formbinding, and make more, as my digger continues to enlarge the moon base.  Sadly, I'm not perfectly efficient: I get distracted, my mind wanders, and I need to make a few supporting materials production shadows as well.

At midnight college time, the world burns, and I smell sulfur.

Odd… I haven't killed anyone, and I haven't died… I check my sheet: Okay, so I'm leveling up.  Why?

I hit the party ship's name field to sort that out:

K: Why are we leveling?

I turn to my sheet… wow, 14th.  Okay, so… eh, going with Greater Link for the feat: It'll make it easier to remote my minions, as I'll be able to get full sensory input from them.  I get three more talents this level (one each from Fey Adept, Primarcane, and Incanter), and go with the Time Sphere, picking the Query Self and Time Clone talents from within it for the other two: Time Clone lets me copy creatures (including myself) for a short time… which should really speed up production… while Query Self is essentially a divination about the near future (several hours): I have a 90% chance of successfully asking a possible future me how a future thing went… as long as it results in a me that can answer.  If it doesn't… well, no response, which is exactly what I get if the effect fails.

For my new wealth… I wanted to look up some creatures… ah, the Trompe l'oeil: When they're made, they're perfectly obedient due to the rules on making constructs, and it has construction requirements and… huh, pretty cheap: Market value a thousand golds per hit die, plus a size-based painting cost.  So a Great Wyrm Verdigris dragon (a copper dragon variant) costs just thirty three thousand market… and Crafting with wealth cuts the painting cost by a third and the rest by half, so it's just fifteen thousand five hundred for me… and that gets me a big, skillfull tank that casts as a nineteenth level Sorcerer. Yoink! Especially as if I give it Enable Function as a spell known, it can temporarily grant itself spells known easily… and I can recharge the creature's spell slots.  I think I'll also grab a Veranallia Azata: It's a Large outsider with twenty-four hit dice that can cast as a twentieth level Cleric; no domains, but it has both the Cleric and Druid spell lists available, plus the ability to ignore components once a day.  I can ABSOLUTELY leverage that, and it's just thirteen thousand for me.  At these prices I easily have room for a third, and so go with the Pasha: It's a type of royal genie, earth-aligned, that can grant three wishes to a non-genie each day… plus it's not evil, does not have wish-twisting in the lore, and only costs me ten thousand… I go ahead and get two, so I can arrange six wishes in rapid succession (which is more than five, and five is something of a magic number with rapid-succession wishes).  For Starfinder wealth, I just stock up on more random little utility items… because you never know what will come in handy… so I have an Instant Vehicle of each type (little statues that turn into actual vehicles for a day, then break), some null-space kennels, an Organic Printing vat, a Gnomish Anytool, and several other things.

For my ship… huh. Tier twelve has enough points… yeah… I go ahead and upgrade to something close to the Colony Ship build we were using for the party ship a few levels ago.  I don't have a seperate ship for landing, so I dump the docking canopy and get a sky crane and attached garage, the intent being to put in a bus and load the bus… but it's more expensive to do things that way, which means I need to back off on the weapons.  Still… I'll have luxury space for nine hundred passengers after filling out the crew… and a Super Nuclear Silo of my own.

For the actual mothership, we add guns: Another turret mounted adamantine Persistent Particle Beam (bringing us up to four, the limit), and a couple small gyrolasers on the port and starboard sides (they can bend far enough to target things coming at us from the bow and stern, although at a penalty).  

I check things over, and sign off on my sheet… and I'm back on the moon.

I try the plan, filling my shadow points up and calling my Time Clone… then I have the Time Clone makes shadow minions, assigning them as mine on casting by way of the Shared Magic feat… and as my copy doesn't need to refill on shadow points (she has enough shadow points to make a minion on each round of her seven round duration), one casting gets me seven minions… and MY shadow points are untouched, which means each copy has a fresh set.

Proof of concept done, I set up in earnest: I put out two copies of myself each round, and each copy puts out seven minions before expiring… which means I'm effectively making fourteen shadow minions each round.  I mean, I need to start with supporting libraries for them (so they can do the Alteration upgrades via Quicken Spell and have the increased caster level), and I need to make some more shadows to handle giving them Regeneration… but before I was putting out just one shadow minion every three rounds: That's a forty-two fold production increase... which means I have enough crafters to cover the werewolves in a day, with enough leftover capacity to build something nice for the vampires: Travel Canopies. They're cheap to make as far as magic items go… I go ahead and make extras.  Plus instruction manuals for everything.

When I have enough… I pack up the Amulets of Undead Persuasion, the Locks of Formbinding (as well as their associated keys), and the Travel Canopies… and head to Earth. On the way, I test out my Pashas, and use their Wishes to increase my Charisma as per that clause of Wish, using five of them to get it as high as possible… then I recharge the Pashas with my at-will racial Heroic Fortune spell-like ability, and do it again for Intelligence, Wisdom, and Dexterity. The base paintings for my four construct minions I keep in my Warp Storage; the minions themselves I keep similarly in Extradimensional Torpor… I'll have them instantly on tap whenever I want: There's very little quite like dropping a Dragon on someone. Of course, I buff the constructs up too.

Once we're in range, I call Lady Elaine Fairchild the first: “Hey… how do you feel about handling speedy deliveries?”

“That's Mr. McFeely's job… ha. But I can handle it, toots.  What do you need?”

“I have two items for every vampire in North America, and one for every werewolf, plus instructions. They all need to get there before the next full moon.  Can you do it?”

She pauses, “That's a lot of travel.”

“I don't think small,” I shrug, not that it's a video call, “Can you do it?”

“Yeah… barely,” I hang up, because she's standing in front of me now, “So what goes to who?”

I take her to the cargo bay, and walk her through it: Instruction manuals in English and Spanish, plus the actual items, and I explain.

“So… these amulets make a red liquid that… tastes terrible, but will satisfy a vampire for a day.  There's some drawbacks, so each vampire will need to keep their amulet safe.  Additionally, when given the correct word, these folded cloths will unfold and hover over the speaker's head, blocking the sun.”

“So they don't need to eat people and can go out during the day… makes sense.”

“And these fit around an ankle,” I point at the locks, “they inhibit shape changing, and will force a person back to their natural form.”

“So the werewolves will remain human for the full moon,” Elaine nods, “I get why the schedule, now.  Okay… I'll get started….”

She picks up as much as she can easily carry, and vanishes.  Several minutes later, she's back, empty handed… and gets more.  Over and over.  She's all done in about eight hours.

Not too terribly long after Ms. Fairchild is done, my phone rings… huh, my hospital contact.

I pick it up, but it's a man's voice on the line, “Greetings Alice.”

Oh now you don't, “WHAT DID YOU DO WITH SAMANTHA?!”

There's a pause, “Nothing, she's fine.  We just served her a warrant to use her work line to contact you.  Say hello Ms. Crowley.”

I hear my contact just fine as she says, “Sorry Ms Alice, they had a warrant… and guns, but they didn't point those at me or even mention them.”

Ah, “It's okay,” hopefully. But if I do get mad, it's not going to be at Samantha.

The man gets back on the line, “This is Agent Charlie Grant of the Secret Service. We had sharply limited options for contacting you, and I do apologize if we've offended.”

I consider, “Fine.  What do you want?”

“Ah, that….”
