Reincarnation into the world of Naruto with the system

Chapter 46: Chapter 46

"Alright, I'll go first as an example. My name, as you've already heard, is Yūhi Kurenai. I'm a jōnin, strongest in genjutsu, I dislike the smell of tobacco and certain individuals who spy on women through a hole in the public bathhouse fence…"

Is it just me, or is there some personal hatred directed at Jiraiya here? Hmm… yeah! That must mean the old man has visited the village a few times if Kurenai talks about him like that. That raises the question of the century—why hasn't he ever shown himself to me? No way was there some kind of communication ban, not with this version of Danzo being reasonable and Hiruzen not being too bad either.

Looks like I've found the first person I genuinely dislike—not fear, not expect trouble from, just dislike.

"…I enjoy taking care of flowers, reading interesting books, and spending time with my friend. As for my dream… I suppose I dream of having a big, happy family. Well, that's my example. Now it's your turn."

Her voice was pleasant, but something about the way she ended that sentence felt off. For a second, I even thought she was just giving a random example rather than sharing real personal details. But either she's got a great poker face, or it was the truth, because I didn't see any signs of deception. More like… a hint of something left unsaid.

"Then I'll go first!"

Kiba, you're hopeless.

"Pfft."

Sasuke agreed with me.

"My name is Inuzuka Kiba. Genin! I'm strong in my clan's techniques, good at taijutsu, and my sense of smell is sharp even by our clan's standards. I dislike strong odors, gloomy people, and those who are too full of themselves. I love my family—when I don't have to train to exhaustion—and good food. I respect one person. My dream is to make our clan one of the most powerful and well-known, and to be a worthy heir."

Well, what can I say? That's Kiba for you—his goals are solid, nothing more, nothing less. Though honestly, his "dream" sounds more like a goal. And as for the person he respects… judging by the quick glance he shot at me, only an idiot wouldn't figure it out. Unexpected, but there are actually traits in Kiba that I respect and value too.

"Next…"

Kurenai turned to Sasuke. Alright, let's hear it—impress us!

"Uchiha Sasuke, genin. I've learned some katon techniques, but I'm not arrogant enough to claim I'm good at them. My taijutsu is above the academy's basic level, but I can't compare to Lee or Naruto. I love my family, and beyond that, I respect a few people outside the clan. I dislike intrigue and betrayal. My dream… no, more like my goal, is to surpass a couple of people I know."

Not bad—way better than that brooding avenger from the original timeline. Not the best possible version of Sasuke, but I could work with this. Honestly, having another Kiba on the team might've been easier, but this Sasuke will do. Especially since, judging by my reputation with him, I'm currently in his deep respect… though I have a feeling that'll change for the worse after some team exercises.

"May I ask, Sasuke-kun, why do you call it a goal rather than a dream?"

Kurenai's tone was delicate, as if saying, You don't have to answer if it's not my business.

I think I'm starting to understand why they assigned her to us—she's practically a natural psychologist. And she definitely knows how to handle kids. Seems like the higher-ups consider us to be difficult cases.

"A dream usually implies something unattainable. A goal, however, is something you can set and strive toward. The path may be long and difficult, but it is still achievable—unlike most dreams," Sasuke answered calmly.

Called it. Judging by Kurenai's expression, she had expected that answer too.

"And lastly—Uzumaki Naruto."

She turned to me.

"Yeah. I'm Uzumaki Naruto. I'm strong in taijutsu, but not at the level of a jōnin or tokubetsu-jōnin—though my skills should be enough for a chūnin. I've learned a few suiton techniques, but at about the same level Sasuke mentioned. I also know some Inuzuka clan techniques—with the clan head's permission. I don't like being ignored, and when people act like I don't even exist, it really irritates me. Unfortunately, that happens all the time…"

I ignored the quiet snickering from my teammates. Even Kurenai didn't look surprised—guess I'd already built quite the reputation for that across Konoha.

"…I like good food, relaxing, and the small circle of people I'd do anything for. I also love silence, and if I get the chance to read a book in peace, I'd be willing to strangle—"

Kurenai's slight surprise, paired with my teammates' barely contained coughs, made me pause.

"—in a good way."

Only after saying that did I realize how my earlier sentence had sounded. Kiba practically folded over his chair, howling, while Sasuke covered his mouth with a hand. Even Kurenai turned away for a moment. Am I speaking weirdly today? Or is it just them?

"I have both a dream and a goal. Actually, two dreams. One of them is impossible. I sincerely wish for peace in the world—to end war, to stop people from dying in conflicts, and to see fewer orphans who never knew their parents. Yes, I truly dream of that. But, as my teammate pointed out earlier, it's completely unattainable. However, that doesn't mean I won't at least try to make this world a little better."

I smiled, a bit tiredly. Yeah, Naruto's personality had influenced me. But honestly, even I found dreams like that beautiful—just completely unrealistic.

A strange silence settled over the room. And the looks they were giving me… Sasuke, as if he'd expected exactly this—he even gained +250 Reputation with me. Ah, right. After helping protect his clan, I was practically a hero in his eyes. Kiba looked stunned but not rejecting it. His face read more like, "More of my weird, but still best friend's nonsense." Kurenai, though… she just looked thoughtful. Hard to read anything deeper than that.

+4% to Yūhi Kurenai's Affection.

Oh no, none of that! Time for my pre-planned escape maneuver! I'll shatter this mood in one move!

"My second dream is much more achievable—to make sure Grandpa Danzo is proud of me."

Then, I stretched my face into the wide, dumb grin of canon Naruto.

Kurenai's eyes bulged, and she coughed violently. Perfect. Too bad my teammates didn't get the joke, but still—mission accomplished. The entire atmosphere shifted, mostly thanks to our sensei, who was still trying to realign her thoughts.

But I wasn't done yet. My goal needed to be stated—whether they understood it or not.

"And my goal—surpass Tobi in trolling."

I ignored their questioning looks and waved a hand dismissively. They'll get it later. And honestly, considering Kurenai's reaction to my previous statement… That goal might not be so far off after all! We'll see, Tobi. We'll see.

"Ahem, alright, now that we're all introduced."

Kurenai composed herself.

"Tomorrow at ten, meet at Training Ground 24."

Sasuke and Kiba visibly flinched. Nice. In Japanese, "24" is pronounced ni-shi, which also sounds like "double death." I'm already liking this training ground.

"I suggest waking up early and having a light meal beforehand. That way, when we start evaluating your skills, you'll be able to perform at 100%."

Her slight smile was way too much of a teacher smile.

"That's all for today. You're free to go. See you tomorrow."

She turned and headed out—probably straight to the Hokage for a report. Did I hit her that hard with my second dream? Heh.

"Any thoughts?" I asked quietly once Kurenai's chakra signature had faded into the distance.

Kiba glanced at me in surprise.

"We should come up with a strategy to show off our full abilities tomorrow," Sasuke said, nodding.

We'll get along just fine.
