Volume 3 Chapter 20
“Your Excellency, are we really going to stand by and do nothing?”
Near the merchant convoy, a few guards symbolically watched over Enrique and his group. After all, Amaris emerged from Enrique’s convoy, and Enrique couldn’t escape responsibility.
Enrique had anticipated the possibility of exposure and had prepared a plan to deal with any contingency.
The contract’s binding nature applied to both parties; it constrained Anna as well as imposed certain obligations on Enrique.
…However, Enrique was a shrewd businessman.
Quibbling over words and finding loopholes was a strength of businessmen, and having a thick skin in trade was common knowledge.
Perhaps Anna lacked such experience, or maybe she was too focused on ensuring Lily’s safety to check the details. Regardless, the contract only stipulated obligations for Enrique and Anastasia.
At first glance, this seemed unproblematic.
But Enrique lacked combat ability. In a sudden event, the only combatants on his side were his guards. The contract was rather vague about this, merely stating that Enrique was obligated to ensure Amaris’s safety should the situation become exposed.
There was no explicit requirement for Enrique to command his guards to act.
The knight who questioned him pressed down on Enrique’s shoulder. Under the influence of the contract, Enrique had to do something.
But look… My loyal subordinates are holding me back, preventing me from going to my death. This should count as force majeure, right?
Regrettably, Anastasia, I’ve done all I can. The rest is up to you.
Enrique narrowed his eyes. The Countess Montferrat’s daughter and her maid had also joined the battle, surprisingly holding out for quite some time.
Everyone could see they stood no chance, and their defeat was just a matter of time.
But…
Why was the exposure?
Enrique couldn’t figure out the rationale either. Frankly, Lily’s exposure wasn’t part of his deliberate arrangement.
The revelation that Amaris was hiding in the merchant convoy was not beneficial to Enrique. Although he could use the ambiguities in the contract to evade the duty to assist, explaining this to Duke Borgias would be troublesome.
The nearby guards were there to prevent them from escaping. Enrique shook his head in lamentation, cursing the inconvenience.
Perhaps Anastasia’s affection for him would plummet… As a normal male player, Enrique couldn’t deny feeling some regret at losing the opportunity to be close to a beautiful maid.
Unable to achieve the best of both worlds, one must choose the side they desire more.
With the contract in place, Anastasia couldn’t escape. She was the most likely to come into contact with the 【Witch】, and even if it required forceful methods, she must be kept.
…
“Strategist! Think of something with your invincible brain! The brothers can’t hold on much longer!”
“…”
Anyone with a brain could see that Anna’s support team was at a severe disadvantage.
In terms of numbers, the gap wasn’t so large. The Black Hawk Mercenary Group didn’t have all their manpower in Aclin, but including non-Black Hawk players, the numbers were slightly balanced.
The trouble lay with the knights. They were Duke Borgias’ elite troops, with formidable individual combat abilities. Few could match them in single combat, requiring teamwork to take down these humanoid gundams.
But what did adventurers know about chivalry? As Anna’s support team members teamed up to attack the knights, adventurers would stab them in the back, quickly reducing their numbers.
Hornheim pushed up his glasses. He had already informed those who died and logged out to seek help from the guild leader as soon as possible. It was tough, but at least there was hope, even though the guild leader probably couldn’t break through the 【Barrier】.
Why the exposure occurred, Hornheim couldn’t be bothered to think.
The key was that Anna was also struggling… Since Anna was fighting, how could her support team give up?
Sorry, Anna.
“Hey, Tokisaki Kurumi.”
“Strategist?!”
Hornheim lowered his voice.
“Anna asked me to tell you…”
“Isn’t Anna over there?”
“She said if you can hold off a knight, she’ll cosplay as Tokisaki Kurumi.”
“……………………………………..”
In the midst of a fierce battle, a knight suddenly faced an adventurer with red eyes, roaring and swinging a cleaver straight at the knight.
The knight, facing the adventurer’s unexpected strength and speed, had to focus all his attention. He roared back in response.
“For my king!”
“For Kurumi aaaaahhhhhhh—”
Who is Kurumi? But now the knight had no time to ponder such things.
“Hey.”
“Strategist, what should we do?”
“Anna asked me to tell you… if you can hold off a knight, she’ll allow you to be her little piggy for a day.”
“…………………………..”
“Hey, you.”
“Strategist, we have to support
Anna!”
“I know, so you hold off a knight. If you manage it, Anna said she’s willing to give you a strand of her hair.”
“……………”
The adventurers besieging Anna’s support team noticed something was amiss. The team, initially at a disadvantage, suddenly fought as if they were on drugs, shouting incomprehensible chaotic slogans.
“I say, Anna’s support team seems to have gone berserk, huh?”
“Jeez, guidable buffs maxed out, who can withstand that?”
“Quick, retreat! The wind’s against us!!!”
