Volume 3 Chapter 13
By noon, as we traveled, the jade lion, though it had small holes for air circulation, was still quite warm due to the hot weather.
To mitigate the heat, I used magic to generate ice and cold wind inside the jade lion, adjusting the temperature.
“How do you feel, Lily?”
“Very cool.”
“Good, if you feel hot or cold, just let me know anytime.”
I could endure it, but I didn’t want Lily to suffer any discomfort.
Lily curiously asked, “Anna sister, are all maids as capable as you?”
“Well… not all of them. Before I became proficient, I also did silly things like breaking plates and inadvertently causing trouble for my master.”
But those were experiences from before I was in this game world. Thanks to those, I was able to quickly adapt to the multitude of skills I now possess.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Really really?”
“…If we keep going like this, we’ll be stuck in a loop. I’d be a little dog if I lied.”
Falling short of a master’s expectations is not something a servant should be proud of, but it’s a necessary part of a servant’s growth. The game’s setting is somewhat strange; it says I’m seventeen years old, but it doesn’t make sense for me to have learned so many high-level skills at that age.
Is it just the game’s official setting, or is there something more to it?
Lily was full of curiosity about my profession, pretending to be nonchalant while eagerly inquiring about how to become a maid.
“Do you need a master… like Lady Chris?”
“I won’t deny that Lady Chris is a good master… But at her level, it can lead to many unnecessary troubles.”
As a maid myself, I understand Nora’s feelings; she’s prepared to devote everything to Lady Chris.
Lady Chris has the qualities to inspire such devotion from Nora, at least for Nora, Lady Chris is an unparalleled good master. However, I haven’t felt the impulse to stay and serve Lady Chris.
“What kind of master does Anna sister envision?”
“My ideal master? If it’s just an employment relationship, I don’t have any specific requirements. If I sincerely want to stay beside a master, I wouldn’t have a particular preference.”
I further explained.
“It’s more about feeling the urge to serve that makes someone my ideal master. I wouldn’t label an admired master whom I’ve never met.”
Regrettably, such a person has not yet appeared.
Aside from other NPCs, I can actually view the affection ratings of adventurers.
Let’s see… the current affection ratings are…
【Anna’s Support Team (All Adventurers), Affection Rating 5】
【Caro Cat, Affection Rating 5】
【Trafalgar, Affection Rating 4】
【Evan He, Affection Rating 3】
The rest are other adventurers who have assisted me, all with an affection rating of 1.
“Huh?”
The highest affection ratings are for everyone in Anna’s Support Team and Caro Cat… But why are they calculated separately?
Indeed, they should be calculated separately. I have a few records of increasing Caro Cat’s affection individually, but this makes it even stranger. Including the 5 points of affection I added for Caro Cat and the bonus from Anna’s Support Team, shouldn’t Caro Cat have an affection rating of 10?
The affection bonus for Anna’s Support Team should include everyone; it doesn’t make sense to exclude Caro Cat.
Caro Cat is the adventurer I spend the most time with. Even though she deliberately acts cute and is not very strong, I definitely don’t dislike being with her.
Caro Cat said she wanted to be friends with me.
Am I now friends with Caro Cat?
If so, I shouldn’t suspect my friend first.
But the first thought that crossed my mind was a baseless suspicion.
Could it be that Caro Cat is not…
“Tonight, Lily doesn’t want to sleep with Anna sister.”
“Oh… Eh? Why!”
Lily suddenly interrupted my thoughts with a bolt from the blue. My current mood is just like a father being told by his daughter, “I don’t want to bathe with daddy anymore.”
Is it because I’m dirty or smelly? No, I bathe every day.
Or does Lily dislike me? What have I done…
“Ann, Anna sister! Lily didn’t mean that!”
Lily was also in a panic, and I desperately awaited her explanation like clutching at a lifeline.
“Lily wants to tell Anna sister that… Lily thinks she won’t have nightmares anymore…”
Lily is old enough not to need an adult to sleep with her every night. The reason I’ve been accompanying Lily is due to the trauma she suffered from Duke Bogia. The zombies and Duke Bogia’s sword attack left a severe psychological shadow on her, and my bedside
skill can directly dispel negative effects, providing the best sleep.
Lily’s condition has improved a lot recently. The night I spent with Lady Chris, Lily was with Sigdrifa, who said Lily was relatively calm and didn’t wake from nightmares.
Honestly, I’m both relieved and worried.
It’s good that Lily is overcoming her trauma, but I don’t want it to be a forced effort on her part.
“Don’t push yourself too hard, Lily. If you’re scared at night, you can always come to me.”
“Lily has grown up~”
“Mm, Lily is amazing. How did you manage it?”
I’m genuinely curious. Lily’s breakthrough that day is still vivid in my memory.
But Lily shyly stuck out her tongue.
“Secret~”
