Reincarnated Maid is About To Be Captured by All Players

Volume 1 Chapter 22

At night.

The maritime trade of the Mikael Kingdom is almost monopolized by the Water City Commerce Guild.

Geographically, the Mikael Kingdom is bordered by the sea to the south and east. Sailing north leads to Arcadia, inhabited by the beastmen, while sailing west leads to the Azlal Kingdom, one of the three great human kingdoms. Along with the merfolk of the Ocean Kingdom Atlantis, these are the main trading partners of the Water City Commerce Guild.

The Elven Kingdom Midgård is a landlocked country and has never been a trading partner of the Water City Commerce Guild. On the contrary, many Mikael Kingdom dignitaries are interested in the elves’ exotic treasures, and the same goes for the Azlal Kingdom.

Seeing the opportunity for profit, the Water City Commerce Guild sometimes extends its reach towards distant Midgård, leading to tension with the elves.

“—Come out! Devil who desecrates the sacred beast! Get out here!”

“How dare you! This is not a place for you to run wild!”

It’s quite noisy outside.

Enrique sighs. From the moment he took out the crystal shoes made from a unicorn’s horn, he knew this day would come. The status of unicorns among elves is different from that of phoenixes among beastmen. Phoenixes are strong fighters, so while they are revered by the beastmen, capturing them is not frowned upon. In contrast, elves treasure unicorns and care deeply for their well-being.

So displaying the [Unicorn’s Crystal Shoes] meant that elves would eventually come knocking. Although Midgård is far from the Mikael Kingdom, that doesn’t mean there are no elves within its borders.

Enrique slowly walks to the second-floor balcony and glances into the courtyard, where well-equipped guards surround a young elven girl.

Silver hair, eyes deep as the night; she has characteristics typical of the Moon Elves, a subrace of elves. Enrique is not particularly interested in elves, but he must admit that the elves living in Midgård are naturally beautiful. Even as the elven girl glares at him angrily, her exquisite features remain captivating.

“Hmph… Finally decided to show yourself?”

“Who could sleep through the howling of a wild dog?”

“You—”

“OK, my time is valuable. Let’s get to the point, elf,” Enrique says, not even bothering to ask her name. “I assume you’re here for the unicorn horn, right?”

“Indeed, it’s been exposed. The villains who attacked Midgård months ago were undoubtedly from your Water City Commerce Guild! By the name of the Goddess, I’ll take you back to the Holy City for trial!”

“Oh.”

Enrique’s attitude contrasts sharply with the impassioned elven girl. He barely suppresses a yawn; she might be the most boring elf he’s ever encountered.

“So, your evidence?”

“Evidence?”

“Mikael is a nation of laws. If you don’t understand the concept of evidence, does that mean all elves from Midgård are brainless barbarians?”

“How dare you insult our elven race!” The elven girl flings her cloak back, briefly revealing her graceful figure. “Everyone in the streets is talking about it—you made crystal shoes from a sacred beast’s horn to please a woman, allowing her to trample it underfoot!”

“That’s true,” Enrique nods. “But how is that related to what you said earlier?”

“Uh… What?”

“Things need to make sense. What does the attack on Midgård months ago have to do with me presenting a woman with [Unicorn’s Crystal Shoes]?”

“Isn’t it obvious that the horn for the shoes came from the attack on Midgård?”

“The unicorn horn I have was bought from the black market.”

Enrique says this without batting an eyelid, looking completely self-righteous. The elven girl hesitates for a moment.

“That’s… that’s nonsense!”

“You know it deep down, don’t you?”

Looking down upon her, Enrique’s gaze carries a hint of pity.

“The safety of unicorns, your sacred beasts, has declined sharply since your current Elf King, Oberon VII, started waging frequent wars. The number of unicorn horns on the black market already exceeds those from the attack on Midgård.”

Unable to refute this point, the elven girl is left speechless. The Elf King Oberon VII has no regard for the safety of unicorns and has reassigned many of the elves who were supposed to protect them to the front lines instead. As a result, the safety of unicorns has plummeted, making them frequent victims of unfortunate events. The uproar about the attack months ago was not an isolated incident but a reflection of the decline in the safety of unicorns.

“Uh…”

Caught in a logical trap, the elven girl has nothing to say. The superiority she once felt has evaporated, leaving her powerless to argue further.
