Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players

Chapter 17: Nasty Monster

"I am saying it right now. I don't like your unfriendly attitude," Jung declared as he strolled through the cave.

As soon as he entered, a new barrier emerged, blocking others from entering.

No answer came from the system. Her cold attitude persisted.

Shaking his head in disapproval, Jung's eyes scanned the surroundings. This entire place looked nothing like the world he knew, or at least that was the vibe he was getting.

Ancient and elegant walls held unfamiliar energy, more potent and divine than the persona in his body. 'What is this place?' Jung asked in fascination.

Someone woke up from her slumber. Abruptly explaining the situation.

"Second dimension," Nero said. "Realm made by gods, lost and forgotten." While amazement filled her eyes, a shadow of doubt wavered on her face. "How did you get into this place?"

"If I am being honest, I don't have a clear picture either. All I know is I used items, specifically pills we get from players." Even he couldn't help but feel intrigued.

Lonely yet stubborn steps vibrated in the hall. There was no light, at least no source of it. However, no darkness, no shadow existed, as if he wandered into a glowing sphere and lost his way.

'I like this place.' Beyond all the experiences he accumulated, this mystical sensation was novel to him.

"I don't!" Nero protested. "Can we leave now?" Her cute voice sounded like black and white piano keys danced in unison.

"We just got here. Don't be a pussy and get ready. There is no telling what might attack us." Jung wouldn't leave this place, not until he steals all the goods from the players.

As he roamed like a lost puppy, he heard a noise. It echoed akin to the sound of metal rubbing together.

"Something is coming!" Jung whispered to the cat. "Get your ass out here."

Hating the idea of leaving a cosy place just to embrace the light, Nero didn't protest and joined him. She stood on his shoulder awaiting incoming danger.

"Good girl!" Jung complimented his companion and caressed her head.

The noise got closer and closer, heading in their direction. With no options to find a better position, or even get a high ground, all they could do was linger.

'Why would I though?'

Smirking and channelling persona energy, he dashed, not waiting for the opponent to show itself. After crossing for ten minutes, he found the enemy he was searching for.

Amid shining armour, with ashen wings, a stunning monster stood. It was a head taller than him as pure light radiated from its divine frame.

But the face…

"Ugh, this is ugly!" Upon seeing the creature's upper body, Jung yelled in disgust.

This was the most hideous face he had ever seen. Even the great Baloonhart III paled in comparison.

It was a dread, like a lost innocence, like a mutated beauty. And it was moving.

Long halted steps resumed. Jung couldn't stand the sight and wanted to finish it as quickly as possible. "For something with your face, I am doing you a favour. There is no hope for you, just give up and die."

He sounded harsh, but not even his rude remarks were enough to hurt this abomination. "But what's up with these winged creatures? They are getting on my nerves."

His question was aimed at Nero, whose reaction didn't differ from his. One could even say that her closed eyes indicated how unsightly the creature truly was.

"Wakey-wakey! We need to save this world. We are the only ones who could do that." Jung said to his muted friend. "Even I wasn't ready for this. I never imagined the fate of humanity would rest on our shoulders."

There was no irony in his voice. He was totally serious.

Nero understood her role and jumped to the ground. She tried to open her eyes, but the lids resisted like they were glued with something.

Nero The Shadowpaw didn't give up. Her willpower was tested since her tier VI status wasn't for show.

"Wow!" Jung exclaimed, "You did it. Damn, I am so proud of you." Clapping, he added. "You got my respect and help." Jung tried to use Shadow Star, but in this lustre, it was in vain.

Pitiful Nero had no time for his jests. She summoned all of her might and dashed towards the creature.

After she and her people had been cursed, this was her first time feeling such an overwhelming desperation.

In their attempt to fight against this ugliness, the monster got closer. It meant she didn't have to cover a long distance and swiftly arrived before the beast.

Voidpaw was the only active skill she could use. Her opponent was tier IV Innocent, but she didn't hold herself back.

Activating this skill, her paws lost all the light, and her legs and hands were covered in a void. A foreign concept for Jung, but it didn't matter to him.

As long as she finished that monstrous entity.

And she did it splendidly. Nero's movement was barely elegant, but more on the rough side.

She smacked the creature in the torso—not once, but multiple times. After that, she aimed at the wings and cut them off, producing a blood rain.

But her hatred was far from paid. It was like she was killing her biggest enemy, and it felt like a vengeance. Full of disgust and loathing, Nero couldn't stop herself.

But she never touched the face. She never dared to.

All she could do was smack the already-killed creature. Jung was the one who put some sense into her. "It's dead. Stop it!" He hugged the cat to subside her emotions.

"I know it was hard for you, and I am sorry you had to do that." He whispered, not looking at the atrocious corpse. "But you saved the world, you should be happy for that."

"Why are you overreacting?" Nero asked. "I killed it, and that's all." Reading her emotions was hard, and Jung didn't argue.

'It was more than that, but who am I to judge?' Jung thought to himself and looked at the sparkling loot the monster had dropped.

As he tried to examine it, an unusual but familiar sound reverberated in the hall. "Guess saving the world isn't that easy. I have to dirty my hands."
