Reincarnated Jester: Taming Players

Chapter 14: Flirting With System

Jung's words brought stillness. Suddenly, it became a quiet morning, the one he wanted to have. Waiting for his next comments, over 50 players found themselves listening intently.

"I have some tier II pills, and you guys can have them. This only works for HugeP and people who worked under him." He still had more to say. "I am giving away two tier II pills for the gift I got. Or I can give you five tier I pills. Choose wisely!"

HugeP didn't hesitate and said, "We will take tier I pills." It was a worthy bargain for players because they were getting pills from any archetype they wanted, except Rebel, plus a reward from the system.

As for Jung, these pills had no use for him, and he was getting rid of them, but with something he sought.

It was only the beginning. He asked other players as well. "Now, hand over your pills, but you guys aren't getting anything from me. Your loser system will have to suffice for now." This second wave of players was far from being a minority.

Luckily, it was the other way around, and Jung expected that. On the surface, he grabbed players' attention, but it didn't mean all of them would fall under his control.

Yet Jung was more than satisfied with that. As long as he had slaves who would do anything for him, for the sake of quests, he didn't see any problems with that. 'I am going to squeeze you guys dry.'

An optimistic mindset never left Jung. But how could he drop it when players were lining up to offer him the pills he longed for?

Success was inevitable, but there was a caveat. Not all players owned pills, most played in groups, and some were Rebels themselves. As such, the total amount of spoils he got was 16 tier I and 2 tier II pills.

Even so, this was significantly more than he could have possibly collected in a single day. Before leaving them or swallowing this delicious treasure, he had one more proposition.

Jung wanted to become a human market or a merchant. "You guys know my exchange rate," he announced after explaining the scheme he wanted to use.

There was genuine passion within him to help these players gain more power, but it was obvious he did so to extract more from them.

"I am selling or trading tier II Rebel pills, this works for Rebel archetypes as well. I will give you guys any pills you choose as long as I get what I want." That was all he wanted to say. 'More will come my way tomorrow.'

When all the work was finished, Jung ingested pills with an ecstatic face. Only by doing this did he gain a full 42% progress.

"This is good, no, it is great, but how can I upgrade you?" To this day, this issue settled in his mind, but with no solution in sight.

[You know my answer.]

"I want to slap you." Jung teased and warned in a playful tone.

[Do it!] The system was cheeky as always and challenged Jung with something he couldn't possibly do.

"Sure, maybe not now, but mark my words, you are getting slapped from me, and be ready for that." This was his other oath—a promise he made, not to the system alone, but to himself as well.

A sound could be heard in his mind. A faint giggle escaped, so soft it was barely audible, but a laugh nonetheless.

'That's adorable,' Jung thought, not saying it aloud.

Once he was done with his business, Jung left the place, but some players followed him. Since this wasn't in his plan, he decided to get rid of them.

Not roughly. He wasn't some lunatic who would kill innocent players just because they followed him.

Or was he?

'I am going to be entertained,' Jung mused and called Nero. "My darling Pookie, it's time to wake up."

"Who is your Pookie, you hideous, ass-looking flamingo?" Nero declared with a drowsy voice, indicating resistance.

"Really? Is this the best comparison you could come up with?" One could feel disappointment in Jung's demeanour. "Just so you know," his convincing attitude was apparent to see. "I am doing this just for you, to show the gift I got for you."

"For me? A gift?" Nero exited from his heart right away. "Human, what do you mean? Explain yourself, if you are lying to me, I am…"

"Stop blabbering, it's irritating." Jung had a knack for interrupting others. "Look at yourself and find out."

Getting Nero curious didn't pose any issue to him. The cat wanted to discover what her new companion mentioned. "Jung, this was your bloody name, right? You are getting on my nerves, but I think you realise that."

The response was laughter. Of all human emotions, this was Jung's favourite. After behaving like a nitwit all morning, it was time for murder.

Does it even count as a crime if he killed players? No one detained him for killing them.

With no rational thoughts in his mind, Jung dashed into the forest and his stalkers, as he named them, sprinted after him.

Green trees remained high, and bushes were thick. Hiding from some inexperienced players didn't present any real challenge. When they got close and couldn't find Jung and the cat, he retrieved Shadow Star from the inventory and tossed it in their direction.

Nero's heart nearly stopped. "How did you get this? This is an ancient artefact, and I thought it was lost." Her voice and body were shaky, she couldn't quite believe her eyes.

"Secret!" With his attention still on Shadow Star, he sneered and added, "I told you I was capable, this is my proof and gift for you."

The item itself dropped before players. Somehow, their eyesight couldn't notice it. It was completely invisible, not seen by others.

But the threads were there, dark, shadowy lines connecting Nero to almost any object within a ten-meter radius. The cat darted her eyes, she was curious and amazed simultaneously.

"Nero, go and have some fun," Jung spoke to her, giving her the push she needed.

Not holding herself anymore, her body vanished, leaving no proof of her existence.
