Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 45

"Report! The southern titan has been lured away!"

"Report! Eastern titan diverted!"

"Report! Western titan under control!"

One by one, the scouts' voices rang out.

At the front of the formation, Commander Keith Shadis drew a steady breath, his voice booming:

"Open the gate!"

The heavy stone doors groaned as they rose. Beyond them stretched a vast sea of grass under an endless sky. The silence was suffocating. Every soldier at the gate felt it—the weight of a world no longer held back by walls.

Lock's chest tightened. It was no longer rumor or imagination. Out there, titans waited.

"Advance!"

Keith's roar cut through the tension. The columns of the Survey Corps surged forward, hooves pounding, banners snapping in the wind. Three divisions split across the plains, a tide of humanity rushing into titan territory.

Lock rode with Oruo, Petra, Eld, and Gunther near the rear guard, just ahead of the baggage wagons. The moment the walls fell away behind him, the scale of the land struck hard. No streets. No homes. Just raw wilderness stretching farther than sight. The openness was terrifying.

For a heartbeat, panic gnawed at him. His breath came shallow.

Then he forced it down. Months of training steadied him. His grip tightened, his gaze sharpened.

This isn't the safety of the walls. Focus.

Petra, watching from the flank, caught the flicker of unease pass through his eyes—then saw it vanish. He had steadied himself in mere breaths. Relief softened her shoulders. Oruo gave a quiet grunt of approval.

They remembered their own first ride beyond the walls—how their nerves had broken, how shameful the memory still felt. Lock's quick composure earned silent respect.

Still, no one allowed themselves to relax. Beyond the walls, distraction meant death.

The formation thundered onward. The vanguard scouts fanned out wide, reporting titan sightings and terrain. At the core, the command squad adjusted routes in real time. The rear guard—Lock's team—shielded the supply convoy. If Titans broke through, they were the last line to hold.

Killing titans was not the goal. Humanity's survival demanded something greater: understanding the world outside. For decades, the Survey Corps had bled men and resources into these expeditions with almost nothing to show.

This mission was different. Commander Keith and Erwin had gambled everything on one plan: to establish a permanent outpost at the edge of the southern giant forest. A foothold for mankind.

Lock knew the history. Knew what was supposed to happen—that the attempt would fail, and Keith would resign under the weight of the losses, leaving command to Erwin.

But this time… would it be different?

Maybe my presence can shift the outcome, he thought grimly.

The crack of a signal flare snapped him from his thoughts. Eld's voice rang out over the thunder of hooves:

"Titan sighted! Right flank ahead—prepare for engagement!"
