Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 33

Fighting skill was only one part of Levi's inspection, but Lock's performance had already shaken him.

The follow-up evaluations—maneuvering with the omnidirectional gear, equestrian drills, and technical exercises—left Levi even more unsettled.

Is this kid even human?

Levi had always considered himself gifted. In the underground, among children his age, he had been untouchable. Yet watching Lock, only fourteen, execute with such precision, he suddenly felt his own talents weren't as rare as he'd believed. Back then, Levi hadn't even been half this strong.

At this rate, Lock could graduate in no time.

And when Levi thought about the possibility of someone like Lock standing beside him as a comrade in the Survey Corps, the burden on his shoulders felt a little lighter.

At the training camp's entrance, Lock stared at Levi with clear reluctance.

"Why don't you stay a few more days?"

Levi paused, adjusting the reins of his horse. To Lock, sparring with someone like him was invaluable. Every bout pushed him to the edge, forcing his body and instincts to sharpen. If Levi stayed longer, Lock knew he'd walk away far stronger—better prepared for the dangers waiting beyond the walls.

But recalling the day's relentless exchanges—and Lock's burning eyes fixed on him even now—Levi only felt a weary sense of trouble.

"Compared to training with you, I'd rather go cut down Titans," he muttered under his breath.

Aloud, his voice was cool, detached: "No. I have a mission. The next time we meet, we'll be partners."

He mounted without hesitation, then rode off into the night.

Lock watched until Levi's figure vanished completely. Only then did he return to the square, where Ellis, Rivington, and Jonah were waiting.

The four of them picked up training as usual.

Ellis and Rivington had seen Levi before, back at the conscription meeting, but Jonah hadn't. Even so, the sheer pressure Levi exuded had left its mark on him.

A man that small… but strong enough to suppress Lock in every way? Jonah thought, unsettled. Is everyone in the Survey Corps like that? A ripple of curiosity stirred in his chest.

The night dragged on.

Unlike Lock, the others couldn't keep up for long. One by one, they gave in to exhaustion and returned to the dormitory, leaving only Lock behind. He kept at it until midnight, body screaming in protest, before finally stumbling back to rest.

But just as he thought it was another day of incremental gains, the familiar tone of the system rang in his ears:

[Endurance +1. Willpower +1.]

Lock's fatigue ebbed away as the stat increase flowed through him. Muscles soothed, mind steadied—suddenly, every ounce of effort from the day felt worth it.

"The effect of winter training really is on another level," he thought with satisfaction before collapsing into sleep.

Meanwhile, far from the training camp, Levi returned to the Survey Corps base. Without pausing, he went straight to the top-floor office. The guards at the door exchanged uncertain looks, but Levi brushed past them and pushed the door open.

Inside, Captain Keith Shadis and Deputy Commander Erwin Smith were bent over a map, speaking in low voices.

Erwin was the first to notice Levi. He looked up with a faint smile.

"How was it?"

Levi didn't hesitate. "Very good."

"Oh?" Erwin raised an eyebrow, amused. "You actually admit it. Then that boy must be something special."

Keith's stern face softened into a rare smile. "Sounds like we'll have another capable soldier soon."

Levi's expression didn't shift. "He's still got a long way to go. Fourteen is too young."

Neither Keith nor Erwin argued the point—they knew Levi well enough by now. Erwin folded his arms, thoughtful. "Young, yes. But keeping him in the cadet corps won't help him anymore. If he's to grow, he needs the right environment. After he graduates, I suggest placing him in your squad."

Levi's eyes narrowed slightly. "That boy won't stay quiet."

Even so, he didn't reject the idea. He knew better than anyone that Lock's raw talent was rare. Thrown into real battle, he would only rise faster.

Keith nodded. "As long as he proves himself with strength and results, I won't hesitate to reward him with a position."

"I agree," Erwin said simply.

With both commander and captain in alignment, Levi only shrugged. "Fine. I have no objection."

Keith and Erwin exchanged a glance, satisfied.

And with that, the subject of Lock was set aside as they turned back to the looming expedition beyond the Walls.
