Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 27

"Is it that easy?"

The recruits were stunned.

Shin stood in the air, suspended steadily by two taut training ropes pulling from either side. His body was motionless, perfectly balanced, as if gravity had simply decided to ignore him.

Whispers rippled through the crowd.

Only Ellis and the other two recruits from Shiganshina remained unfazed. They had seen Shin's terrifying capabilities firsthand and stood calmly, arms crossed.

"These guys are too naive," one of them muttered. "This kind of test is nothing for Shin."

"Yeah. Shin is absolutely the strongest."

Their casual comments grated on the ears of the surrounding cadets, especially those who had been beaten down by Shin the day before. Many of them clenched their fists, their pride stung. If they couldn't beat him in a fight, they'd at least try to match him in training.

They refused to fall behind—not again.

After unhooking the ropes fastened to his waist rings, Shin landed lightly on the ground. The instructor's voice followed immediately after.

"You're Shin, aren't you? Impressive work. I expect great things from you."

Shin turned toward the source and saw Instructor Klaus, the stern-faced drillmaster who had barked orders earlier. But now, surprisingly, there was a faint smile tugging at the corner of Klaus's lips.

Not a good look, Shin thought to himself. He really should stick to being serious. The smile just makes him look more intimidating.

As if reading the recruits' discomfort, Klaus quickly wiped the expression from his face and returned to his usual scowl.

"Next."

Shin smirked faintly. This guy has a strangely charming personality.

Then, his eyes drifted toward the edge of the forest where the 3D maneuver gear sat waiting.

"Instructor," he said suddenly, "I want to learn how to use the 3D gear."

Klaus raised an eyebrow, visibly displeased, about to scold him for getting ahead of the lesson plan. But then, he paused, remembering something Erwin had said the night before.

After a short silence, Klaus turned to his assistant.

"John. Take this kid over to the gear station."

"Yes, sir."

The man named John gave Shin a sidelong glance and gestured for him to follow.

"Come on. I'll walk you through it."

"Thanks," Shin replied casually.

John's smile was slightly too wide to be friendly. "No need to thank me… wait until you've used the gear."

Inside, John was already preparing for Shin to fall flat on his face.

Just because he's got good coordination doesn't mean he'll pick up the 3D gear instantly, John thought. This isn't something talent alone can handle—it takes serious practice.

Every year, some overconfident recruits came in thinking they could master the gear just because they were physically gifted. They'd rush ahead, try to show off, and—without exception—fail spectacularly. One recruit even broke a leg two years ago and had to drop out of training entirely.

John was convinced Shin was no different. Overconfident and flashy. He needs a little humiliation to stay grounded.

They soon arrived at the gear station.

Officially named Three-Dimensional Maneuver Gear, it was the cornerstone of the military's combat capability within the Walls. With it, soldiers who had spent their lives confined to the flat planes of the earth could now move freely through three-dimensional space—an absolute necessity for fighting Titans.

Currently, the gear is mostly used by the Survey Corps, who frequently leave the safety of the Walls. Graduates of the Training Corps were expected to be proficient in it, but the Military Police and Garrison often relied on it far less in their day-to-day duties.

John began explaining.

"The basics are simple. Once you've strapped in, press the trigger on the handles. The hip-mounted launchers will fire out anchors—these can hook into Titans, buildings, or trees. After that, compressed gas is used to reel you in. With skillful body control, you can adjust your posture midair using leg movements and belts on the waist and ankles."

As John spoke, Shin strapped into the gear and absorbed the information calmly.

"In practice, though," John continued, "there's a lot that can go wrong. Even if you remember every instruction perfectly, actual use requires fast reflexes and precision. You'll face sudden obstacles, misfires, and unexpected shifts in momentum. So don't even think about—"

"Fsssh—POP!"

John froze.

A loud hiss of compressed air sounded next to him, followed by a blur of motion.

Shin vanished.

"WTF!" John shouted, spinning around.

Shin had triggered the gear early and was already airborne.
