Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 24

The moon hung faint and ghostly in the sky, veiled by drifting clouds. A biting wind swept through the treetops, sending occasional shivers down the spines of those stationed on patrol. The trees lining the road stood silent and dark, casting long shadows in the moonlight. It was a night wrapped in chill and quiet, broken only by the rhythmic rattle of carriage wheels clattering across uneven ground.

Two carriages rolled swiftly along the dirt path, their iron-rimmed wheels leaving shallow tracks in the frostbitten soil. Inside one of them, Shin sat wrapped tightly in a thick brown cloak, only his sharp eyes visible beneath the hood. He peered intently out the small window slit as they rounded a bend in the road. The tree cover fell away, and what emerged before him stirred the dull weariness from his bones.

Built into a natural depression near a cliffside, nestled among the woods, was a compact but imposing compound. A high wooden wall enclosed rows of simple but sturdy buildings, with flickering torchlight marking the perimeter. At the rear of the compound, stone ledges and a rocky drop-off formed a natural barrier against intrusion. It was the training base of the military corps.

"We're finally here…" Shin murmured, his breath fogging up the cold air.

The bone-deep chill in his body lifted a little at the sight. He wasn't the only one relieved.

"About damn time," Ellis groaned from across the carriage, rubbing warmth into his hands. "Any longer in that wind, I'd have frozen my ears off."

Livington, seated beside him, grunted his agreement.

As the carriage passed through the open gates of the base, a wave of collective relief swept through the group. The high walls blocked out the wind almost instantly, and the torches illuminating the training grounds brought welcome warmth to frozen faces.

Shin had assumed they'd be shown to barracks and allowed to rest—after all, it was already deep into the night. But the carriages didn't stop. Instead, they rolled past rows of wooden buildings and continued toward the far rear of the base near the cliffs.

Ellis frowned and leaned toward the soldier riding alongside the driver. "Brother, where are you taking us? It's the middle of the night."

The soldier, who had become familiar with them over the past two days, gave a tired smile but didn't soften his words. "Playground. You're the last batch to arrive. Be mentally prepared."

"Prepared for what?" Livington asked, puzzled.

The soldier only offered a look of sympathy, then said nothing more. No matter how much Ellis pressed him, he remained silent.

Shin narrowed his eyes but said nothing. He had a feeling something unpleasant was waiting for them.

Soon, the last of the houses gave way to an open square, poorly lit by torches planted into the frozen earth. What greeted Shin's eyes was a crowd of at least two hundred recruits, standing in military formation despite the bitter cold, their faces etched with frustration and annoyance. Some were visibly shivering, arms crossed, eyes narrowed.

As the carriages came to a halt, all those sharp, resentful gazes turned toward them—Shin and the five other new arrivals.

"They were… waiting for us?" Shin muttered under his breath, stepping down from the carriage.

"Over here," called a familiar voice.

Shin turned and saw Erwin Smith—the same man who had overseen the conscription meeting back in Shiganshina—beckoning them toward a gap in the front row.

With a slight nod, Shin led Ellis and the others into formation. He studied Erwin briefly. So, the Deputy Commander of the Survey Corps was personally overseeing tonight's proceedings. That was unexpected.

"No, Levi," he noted internally with mild disappointment.

Erwin's voice carried over the crowd. "Now that everyone has arrived, today's assembly is concluded. Official training begins tomorrow. I suggest you get a good night's rest."

With that, he offered Shin a faint smile, turned on his heel, and walked away.

The training corps instructors promptly dismissed the crowd.

But tension hung in the air.

As the six newcomers stepped away, Shin could feel the heavy stares pressing against his back. Ellis noticed too. "Uh… why are they all looking at us like that?" he muttered, his voice tightening with unease.

Livington had turned pale. "This… doesn't feel good."

From the crowd, a tall, broad-shouldered recruit stepped forward, flanked by others. His eyes were cold.

"You made us wait out here in the cold," he said flatly. "Don't think you can just stroll in like nothing happened."

The mood shifted. Other recruits stepped in behind him, forming a loose half-circle. Shin could already feel their hostility.

Ellis and the others instinctively looked toward Shin.

The tall boy scoffed at that. "Tch. You're letting a brat lead you? Pathetic."

Laughter rippled through the crowd. But it was nervous, forced.

Shin stepped forward calmly. His eyes locked on the speaker's. "Get out of the way."

The boy smirked. "And if I don't?"

Shin didn't answer with words.

His fist answered for him.

A thud echoed in the square as Shin's punch connected cleanly with the boy's face, dropping him to the ground in a heap. For a moment, time stood still. Then—

"Get him!" someone shouted.

The square erupted into chaos.

Dozens of recruits surged forward.

Shin moved like a predator unleashed. He ducked a wild swing and rammed his elbow into another boy's chest, knocking the wind from his lungs. Without breaking stride, he pivoted and lashed out with a swift kick, sending a second boy flying into a cluster of others.

He was outnumbered. Outmatched in volume. But not in skill.

Not in strength.

And certainly not in resolve.

Punches rained down on him from different angles, but Shin absorbed them with gritted teeth, driving forward like a machine. One blow, one body dropped. Another punch, another body reeled back, clutching ribs or nose.

Jonah was the first among the others to recover. With a roar, the broad-shouldered youth charged in and joined Shin, throwing wild but heavy punches.

Ellis hesitated, then cursed and joined too. "We're already here. No backing down now!"

Livington and the others followed suit.

But the truth was clear. This wasn't a fair fight.

They were six against over two hundred.

And of those six, only Shin and Jonah were truly holding the line.

Within minutes, the others had been overwhelmed, knocked do, or shoved aside. Jonah was already flagging, panting with exhaustion. Yet Shin remained standing, surrounded by groaning bodies.

He was relentless. Tireless.

Even as fresh attackers stepped in, they hesitated after seeing the growing circle of defeated peers surrounding him. Limbs bruised, jaws swollen, noses bleeding.

No one wanted to be next.

Shin wiped blood from his cheek and took a step forward.

The recruits stepped back.

Then—

Ding!

A crisp sound echoed in his mind.

System Notification: Achievement Unlocked — [Ten Enemies]

Objective complete: Defeat 10 enemies barehanded.

Reward: +1 Physical Fitness, +1 Blunt Force Resistance.

Shin blinked, momentarily surprised—but the system wasn't done.

New Challenge Unlocked: [Fifty Enemies]

Defeat 50 opponents.

Reward: +2 Physical Fitness, +2 Resistance to Blows.

His eyes lit up.

He glanced around. Dozens more recruits stood frozen, watching him, uncertain. Not enemies, not allies—just experience points.

He smiled faintly.

And charged.

"What the hell—he's still going?!"

"Run! RUN!"

The recruits scattered in every direction, shrieking and fleeing the way one might from a wild beast.

In the center of the square, Shin roared forward like a tiger among sheep, punching, swinging, evading. The sound of panicked footsteps echoed across the frozen ground.

At that moment, Erwin arrived with a few instructors, having been alerted by concerned recruits.

He took one look at the scene of Shin chasing a group of terrified teenagers across the training grounds and chuckled.

"I may have underestimated that boy," he said, folding his arms. "He's not just driven. He's… dangerous."

One of the instructors beside him frowned. "Should we intervene?"

"No," Erwin replied. "Let him finish. And then… let Levi handle it."
