Reincarnated In Attack On Titan World As Nobody

Chapter 21

The qualification review didn't take long.

Shiganshina was a small district, and its registry was well-maintained. After a brief investigation, the identities of Shin and the two other successful applicants—Ellis and Livington—were verified. No criminal records. No forged ages. Everything checked out clean.

It was official. The three of them were to be enlisted into the Training Corps.

And so, even though he felt reluctant, Shin had to face it—his life was entering a new chapter. The quiet days in Shiganshina, the evenings spent with Armin and Eren under the twilight skies, and the warmth of his adoptive family—it was all about to become a memory.

The training that lay ahead was nothing like the physical conditioning they had done in the district. It would be brutal, real, and aimed at one thing only: killing. Be it titans or humans, the skills he would learn were designed to survive, dominate, and destroy.

And that reality didn't scare Shin.

He wasn't naïve. Between titans and people, it was the people inside the Walls who truly frightened him. Their schemes. Their ambitions. Their pettiness and power struggles.

He had no delusions. Without sufficient strength or status, revealing even a glimmer of ambition would invite envy, suspicion—even death.

That was the nature of power within the Walls.

So Shin made a decision.

He would lay low—for now. Suppress his ambition. Stay quiet. Observe. Learn. Train. Build strength.

Only when he had the power to protect what he cared about and crush any hand that reached for him—only then would he act.

Levi was strong. But even the strongest fighter still had to take orders.

That wasn't enough.

Shin wanted more. He wanted command. Authority. Influence. The freedom to move without asking for permission.

But that was a goal for another time. For now, he needed to become stronger than anyone else. Everything else could wait.

The morning of departure arrived.

Shin sat in a carriage as it rattled through the cobbled roads, slowly moving away from the familiar alleys of Shiganshina. Outside the window, he saw Armin waving frantically, trying to keep up with the carriage. A little further back, Eren was shouting something at the top of his lungs, barely audible through the noise of the wheels. Mikasa stood behind them, arms crossed, watching silently. Grisha and Harry were there too, alongside Karla and Aunt Martha.

Shin took a deep breath.

A promise formed on his lips—spoken softly, for no one but himself.

"Wait for me. I'll come back stronger."

Across from him, Ellis, trying to lighten the mood, gave a small chuckle. "Your friends are really something, Shin. Didn't expect that kind of send-off."

Shin didn't smile. He looked Ellis in the eye, voice low but certain.

"They're not just friends. They're family."

Ellis blinked, surprised by the seriousness in his tone. Then he nodded slowly.

"Got it."

Back in Shiganshina—

"I've decided," Eren shouted, clenching his fists. "I'll follow Shin's path. I'll enlist in the Training Corps through the conscription trials—and after that, I'll join the Survey Corps!"

The declaration was cut short by a sharp tug on his ear.

"Absolutely not!" Karla snapped. "You're going to learn medicine from your father! That's final!"

"I won't!"

But Karla was already twisting his ear into knots. The pain brought tears to Eren's eyes, but the determination on his face didn't fade.

Armin wisely took a few steps back, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire.

Mikasa hesitated, standing still with a slight frown. A part of her agreed with Karla. The Survey Corps was too dangerous. She didn't want Eren anywhere near it.

But another part—deep down—felt something else.

She looked toward the distance where Shin's carriage had disappeared, and for the first time in a long while, she doubted herself.

He had surpassed her.

She knew it.

Shin used to be weaker—physically at least. But now, he stood in a league of his own, walking through challenges that most adults struggled to pass.

He was calm. Collected. Strong. And admired by everyone.

Mikasa felt… conflicted.

Once, she had been the one Eren looked up to. Now, it was Shin.

And she wasn't sure how she felt about that.

Harry watched the chaos from a few paces away and leaned toward Grisha with a grimace.

"Suddenly I'm even more worried about the future."

Grisha let out a dry sigh. "Join the club."

Back on the road, the journey was long. The route from Shiganshina at the southern tip of Wall Maria to the training base near Trost Gate in Wall Rose took nearly two days by carriage.

Shin passed the time chatting with Ellis and Livington. The landscape passed by in a blur—dense forests, farmlands, and the occasional checkpoint.

Thankfully, the road was smooth, though the lack of suspension in the carriages made every rock and bump feel like a kick to the spine.

By the time the city of Trost came into view, Livington was visibly twitching.

As soon as the carriage stopped, he leapt off.

"I need to piss—like, right now!" he shouted, rushing toward the nearest restroom.

Ellis sighed, clearly used to his friend's antics. "That idiot held it in the whole way. There were rest stops, but nooo, he didn't want to say anything."

He turned to Shin. "Mind waiting here a bit? I'll go make sure he doesn't get lost."

Shin nodded. "Go ahead."

He watched Ellis jog away, then looked around.

Trost was far more developed than Shiganshina. Wider streets. More merchants. Better defenses. It felt like stepping into another world.

And yet, Shin wasn't distracted.

His mind was already on tomorrow.

The training would begin.

He'd finally get his hands on two things he'd long dreamed of—the black iron bamboo training swords and the omnidirectional mobility gear.

To the people in this world, they were merely tools.

To Shin, they were keys.

Keys to freedom. Keys to power.

He couldn't wait.

Just then, another carriage pulled up near the rest stop. The sound of wheels drew his attention.

He turned toward it, unaware that his true journey was only just beginning.
