Chapter 508: [When Fallen Fall] [4] [Book of Liberation]
There is a saying that I have heard a lot before.
'The more beautiful she is the more evil her heart is.'
I don't know how true that statement is; perhaps a part of it might be true.
'…But for her it's definitely true.'
Lyssa's three children walked into the hall, each with a different presence.
They stopped right in front of me, while each had different reactions.
The tallest one, with deep teal hair braided over her shoulder, scanned me up and down.
She didn't speak but I was sure she was judging me in her mind.
The second, softer in expression with pale blue hair, offered a small bow.
"Welcome, Sir Himmel."
The third and the shortest, with green hair ending in small curls.
I looked at her a second more because she was someone I knew.
A [Main Heroine] from the second game core two.
'…She really has that haughty presence.'
Though, my gaze shifted to the side toward the tallest sister.
'….I never thought I would see you here.'
I kept my gaze on her while she wore the same aloof expression on her face.
"Why don't you introduce yourselves?" Lyssa said, gesturing at them.
The teal–haired one stepped forward first.
"I am Kaelia Lorelei," she said, voice low and cool. "Second daughter of Lyssa."
'Yeah… she's exactly like in the game.'
Then came the third daughter.
The one with long eyelashes blinked gently.
The one whom I had no idea about because she wasn't in the game.
"My name is Aradia Lorelei," she said softly. "Third daughter and a Healer."
Her eyes held genuine warmth.
A miracle, considering the family she belonged to.
The last one stepped forward with a smirk already tugging at her lips.
Her green hair bounced lightly as she tilted her head with unfiltered confidence.
"I am Kana," she said, punching her fist into her palm. "I hope you die soon."
Aradia quickly slapped her sister's hand before pulling her back.
I didn't respond as I glanced back at Lyssa. "Say, are your daughters allowed to go out on the mainland?"
Lyssa sat down on a throne, tilted her head slightly.
"Well, not really." She responded. "You see, our only touch with the mainland is by Aljanah family."
"What if the Aljanah family isn't there?" I asked, turning toward her.
"….Then we will have to venture out on our own." She responded with a smile. "Perhaps we would have to learn how to survive on our own."
"..."
I nodded my head while I kept my gaze on the tallest girl.
It was vague but I remember her role in the game.
Kaelia was like a hidden villainess in the game.
She and Kana were on a mission to find their sister who was lost.
That's when they met Elijah, who was on a mission with Wilhelm.
Elijah offered them help which they gladly accepted.
But Kaelia wouldn't have been a villainous figure if she wasn't the antagonist.
In the end because of her Kana died, making her the only heroine who could never be saved.
'…I remember trying to find ways to stop her from dying.'
I thought as I glanced at Kana who was arguing with her sister in a low voice.
Kana's gaze flicked to him for a moment and her smile widened immediately.
"Hi," she said to Elijah, leaning forward a little too close. "You're cute."
Elijah stepped back so fast he nearly tripped.
Aimar wasn't even pretending to hide his laugh.
What is this, her 'main Heroine instinct?'
Lyssa clapped once, the sound echoing through the hall like a wave.
"Daughters," she said gently, "we have matters to discuss."
Kana quieted down as she moved back with her other sisters.
"So, Himmel." She continued. "Which one would you like to choose?"
"What?" I frowned. "None."
She smiled softly. "Are you perhaps interested in Verna—"
"I am not interested in anyone." I cut her off firmly. "I am not here to find a bride, Lyssa."
Her smile slowly died down as she tilted her head. "Please don't be like this."
"I am only here because Verna told me I can get some information about the key from you."
I spoke firmly while never losing eye contact with her.
"Now, if you can please provide the information or we will go now."
"Um." Before she could speak, Aradia chimed in quietly. "Can I have some alone time with you?"
I turned around, tilting my head slightly. "And why would I do that?"
Her face hardened. "But only a few—."
"I am not that kind, miss." I spoke, turning back to her mother. "Your answer, Lyssa."
The woman gave me a deep look as her smile had already died down.
"Is there nothing that can change your mind?" She asked softly yet coldly.
I thought for a moment, analyzing her.
'It may be hard but I still beat her in a fight.'
I might get hurt but not to the point of long-term impact.
The problem will be the rest of the kingdom.
That might create some problems for me.
'It's not worth it.'
"Can I see the weapon of Anastasia?" I asked, looking up at her.
Lyssa glanced at her daughter then at me. "Please guide him, Aradia."
The girl nodded and immediately turned around.
I glanced at them as I gave Elijah a slight nod; Kana was sticking close to him.
Aradia guided me deeper within the palace.
She simply walked ahead of me, bare feet gliding across the smooth floor.
We passed through a narrow hallway where water floated along the walls in long streams.
Aradia finally glanced back at me.
"Are you always that blunt?" she asked softly.
"Yes."
She nodded like she expected that.
"My mother tends to push people," she said. "She has… high hopes."
"For me?" I raised a brow.
"…For all of us." She responded. "Things are really not great for us."
"And why is that?"
Instead she stopped in front of a tall, shell-shaped archway that pulsed faintly with mana.
She fully turned as her eyes remained fixed on me.
"I really hope you choose one of us sisters, Sir Himmel." She spoke with a bow.
What the hell is wrong with them.
Why are they so fixated on getting together with me.
I let out a sigh as I whispered. "And what if I don't."
She raised her head and looked into my eyes.
"…If you don't." She whispered softly. "Then everyone I love will die."
---
[Somewhere Unknown.]
The old battle scars on the ground made it a barren land.
The battle scars were inflicted on Lumina when two Gods collided.
The blood of those who once ruled the world still blackened the ground.
Crossing such a place were two people: a young man and a mature lady.
The long beautiful hair of the woman waved around lively as she jumped around.
Despite her mature figure she acted like a child with him.
The young boy with long black hair walked just behind her.
"You will fall down, Lilith." Oliver grumbled trying to stop her. "Be careful."
"A goddess doesn't fall." She replied back with a smile.
Oliver shrugged. "Well, I remember one goddess falling for me though."
Lilith let out a genuine laugh. "That's such a cheesy thing to say."
"Am I lying though?" he asked, looking around the place.
"Not really." She replied, smiling. "A goddess did fall for you."
Oliver proudly nodded before he asked seriously. "Anyway, where are we?"
"The Argen." She responded. "The place also known among gods for the last battle for humanity."
Oliver tilted his head slightly. "What?"
"Have you ever wondered how humanity survived for so long?" Lilith asked her own question instead. "Despite being pathetically weak?"
"…Pathetically weak?" he repeated. "That's a bit harsh, don't you think?"
Lilith shrugged, completely unbothered.
"It's the truth," she said cheerfully. "Humans break easily and the only reason they survive was because their forefathers protected them."
Oliver's expression turned serious. "…Adam."
"…He loved his race for all his life." Lilith's voice softened a lot. "He never turned a blind eye to them even if it meant making enemies out of gods."
Lilith's footsteps slowed, the childish bounce disappearing.
"Humans are fragile." She whispered. "And protecting fragile things can often bring pain."
"….Lilith."
The woman turned her gaze to him and smiled. "Don't worry, I am fine."
Her childish steps moved again as she drew in a deep breath.
"You know, Adam fought against his own best friend to save humanity twice."
Oliver's steps slowed down as he frowned. "Wait, were you with me in my previous reincarnation?"
Lilith frowned.
"Not like that." She pinched his cheek and stretched it. "In your previous reincarnations your soul was mingled with Horus's soul."
Oliver slapped her hand aside. "So am I different in this life?"
"Yep, you are a pure soul." She replied. "Despite his influence on you, Aimar has taken Horus's soul."
Oliver let out a sigh as he looked ahead. "Anyway, why did you bring me here?"
Lilith stopped in her tracks as she looked up at the sky.
"Adam's strength came from something really special." Lilith spoke, stepping right behind Oliver.
"….I made him a book from my very own flesh and blood."
Oliver flinched. "What—!?"
"Shhh, you are strong enough to handle it now." She whispered, grabbing his hand and guiding. "Repeat after me."
Lilith raised their joined hands toward the ash-gray sky.
"'Open the page that remembers.'"
Oliver exhaled slowly.
"Open the page that remembers."
The sky trembled.
Lilith smiled, her eyes glowing faintly.
"Good. Now the second line: 'Reveal what was written in the body of a god.'"
"…Reveal what was written in the body of a god."
The sky darkened.
Shadows twisted on the cracked earth, forming patterns like runes.
A single light broke through the sky and landed straight on Oliver.
In that moment, Oliver felt a shift in his own mind.
Like he had his mind connected with something ancient.
Lilith watched them with a soft expression.
"There it is… the Book of Liberation."
Lilith slowly moved back as the light shone brighter on him.
Oliver's eyes rolled back, a golden light bloomed from the inside of him.
It was like he was being changed from the inside out.
"My name is Lilith, The Mother of all demons!"
She spoke, her voice echoing within the entire place.
"And I declare, the Book of Liberation has found its master!"
Lumina acknowledged her declaration with open heart.
Dhump!
But as soon as her words finished, a terrifying pressure built in the place.
Lilith slowly moved her head to the side.
At a hundred metres' distance, an old man with his skin wrapped around his bones stood.
He had a katana in his hand, wind fluttering his old clothes.
His long pointy ears gave away his lineage.
Lilith recognized the man.
….And she prepared for the battle.
A battle that might do considerable damage to her.
The man looked at her, then at Oliver who had still not noticed him.
His gaze shifted back on her.
"Lilith." The man spoke, his voice harsh like he hadn't spoken in years.
"….Is master back?"
