Chapter 501: Ancestor [1]
[The Next Day.]
The family of Aljanah was a prominent figure within the game.
In the second installment, "Fall OF Akasha," Aljanah had a big hand in the destruction of the world.
Keeping aside the direct involvement of Esmeray and Jones, there were other beings of the Aljanah family who were a pain to deal with.
In one of the quests to save Cecily, we get to know more about the Aljanah.
How they were a prominent figure during the second holy war.
How some of the Aljanahs are part of hideous groups.
…How everything bad that happened in this world was somehow related to them.
'….I really have a fucked up family, don't I?'
I thought as I looked around the empty place we were in.
For as far as my eyes could see, there was nothing but barren land.
'Sometimes I wonder if Samyaza created a family just to fuck the world over.'
Knowing how his brain works, I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.
"….Where the hell are we?" Aimar asked, looking around as well.
Elijah also looked confused as he stared at me for answers.
I turned my gaze back to the card that Samyaza handed me.
'….Can't believe I'm using this card this early.'
I let out a sigh as I placed the card between me and the morning sun.
I regret giving Inna to Christina now.
'...Well, atleast she will keep the elf safe.'
"I think we are in the right place," I mumbled, glancing back at them. "Well, the card says so."
"How the fuck are you even talking with a card?" Aimar grumbled, trying to snatch it away from me.
I just moved slightly to avoid him as I looked at Elijah.
"Did you have that dream last night as well?"
Elijah looked uncomfortable as he rubbed his temples. "….Yeah."
I nodded as I looked around once again. "…I really hope it's not something serious."
Who am I kidding, it's definitely something serious.
Letting out a sigh, I glanced back at the card as it suddenly began to glow.
It slipped out of my grip and floated in the air.
The card began to spin and the next instant, a portal opened up in front of us.
"..."
"..."
We stood there in silence as we stared at the portal.
'….Well, that's one way of using cards.'
I mused as I walked inside the portal, and the other two followed behind me.
On the other side of the portal was an old-looking house.
'...'
I immediately felt a sense of uneasiness as I looked at the house for a long second.
"Is this the place?" Elijah's voice brought me out of my trance.
I nodded as I walked toward the door. "…Stay with me."
As I reached closer to the door, it opened from the inside.
A girl came into view wearing a vintage dress that seemed perfectly suited for the mansion's atmosphere.
Her long black hair had patches of gold, and though her face looked youthful, there was a certain timelessness to her.
'....'
The lady smiled as I slowed down.
"Welcome, Sir," she said with a slight bow. "I am Abellona. Sir Samyaza was expecting you."
I narrowed my eyes. "Was he now."
This doesn't feel nice.
She nodded and opened the door fully for us. "Please come in."
I walked inside and was immediately greeted by a spacious library of books.
They were everywhere as shelves of them were placed all around.
'….The inside is much bigger than the outside.'
I walked in as my gaze finally fell on the man sitting on the sofa holding a book.
Samyaza smiled as he took off his glasses and looked at me. "Told you my card would come in handy."
I didn't like that attitude of his.
"…Yeah," I said, looking at him. "What a coincidence, I needed it so early."
He just smiled as his gaze fell on the other two.
"Oh, we have company," he said, placing the book on the shelf. "Eylon's Avatar and Horus' Reincarnation."
Both Aimar and Elijah looked at him with wary eyes.
I gestured toward him. "Samyaza," I said. "The ancestor of the Aljanah family."
Aimar blinked once. "….Ancestor?"
"…Yeah," I mumbled. "Long story short, he is one of the oldest beings in this world."
Samyaza gestured toward the seat with a smile. "Please."
I walked toward the seat while the other two followed.
As I sat down, Samyaza pointed at the maid staring at me.
"Do you remember her?" he asked.
I blinked at the smiling maid.
"No," I replied, and her smile died down. "Should I?"
Samyaza looked at the woman. "…Don't be sad," he said. "He will remember you eventually."
The maid turned stoic as she nodded. "I will bring something to eat."
She quickly walked away, leaving us alone.
"So," he began, crossing his legs. "What brought you here, Himmel?"
I leaned forward as I kept my gaze on him.
"How much control do you have over the Aljanah family right now?"
He blinked. "…Almost completely."
I didn't move my gaze away. "Would you interfere if I killed all of them?"
Being completely honest, I don't like the Aljanah family one bit.
I have been ignoring them for a long while but that doesn't mean they are not a pain.
There are things that would happen later which I don't want.
I didn't expect him to blink at the question.
For a second, his genial smile faltered.
"Kill them all?" he repeated, slow and thoughtful. "That's… ambitious."
In the game, Samyaza did interfere when Elijah killed more than half of Aljanah.
He was the reason why the prominent figures and children of Aljanah were left alive.
'….The game never specified that it was him though.'
Samyaza folded his hands as if considering a trivial puzzle.
"You control them," I said bluntly.
"Control and love are not the same thing, Himmel." His voice was soft, almost fatherly. "They are my influence, and I can't let you cripple my influence."
I nodded my head. I expected this type of answer.
"So, how about it," I said, pointing at Elijah with my thumb. "Make sure they don't target him and his family."
Samyaza turned his gaze toward Elijah and looked at him for a long second.
"….Why would anyone target his family?" he asked, looking genuinely confused. "Who would profit—"
"Jacob," I cut him off. "Orelena, my grandmother's brother and the newly crowned demigod."
"...."
Samyaza leaned back on his seat as his smile slowly brightened.
"Ah, I see," he mumbled. "He wants to use Elijah as a sword to kill Orelena and keep everything for himself."
"A long plan, but that's what he wants." I nodded my head. "So, can you keep him in line?"
"Sadly, I can't do that," he replied, smiling even more. "It's in the nature of mortals to fight for power. I can't take that away from them."
I rubbed my temples as I looked at him. "So, you are completely useless?"
His smile remained the same as he stood up. "Come with me."
I hesitated for a second before I stood up, and so did the others as we walked behind him.
He took us further inside the house that kept getting bigger.
It wasn't long before we were in a different place that looked like an old collector's office.
"You see, Himmel…" Samyaza said, glancing over his shoulder. "I have lived a really long life."
"Who would have guessed."
"I saw a lot of things in this life of mine," he continued, ignoring my comment. "What do you think terrified me the most?"
"Power?" Aimar guessed, arms crossed. "Losing it?"
"No," Samyaza replied calmly.
"Elves?" Elijah asked quietly.
"No."
"Your wife?" I deadpanned.
"…That one comes close," Samyaza admitted with a sigh. "But no."
He finally turned around, his eyes on the painting hanging at the far end.
"What terrified me the most," he said, "was witnessing my own creations destroy themselves before the world even had the chance to harm them."
I turned to look at the painting as well. It was a portrait of an ordinary-looking woman.
"….Who is she?" I couldn't help but ask, but I had an idea.
"….My deceased wife," he said, smiling. "The lady of the Aljanah household."
"...."
She really looks ordinary.
"What was special about her?" I asked, keeping my gaze on the portrait.
"Nothing," he spoke calmly. "She just wasn't afraid of me."
I turned to look at him. "So, you made a family with her?"
"…Creating a family wasn't my idea," he spoke, glancing at me. "It was my younger brother's wish."
"...."
Azrael's wish, huh?
Somehow, I don't think he's lying to me.
He does sound like someone who would create a family.
"We are getting off topic," Aimar grumbled. "Is mister ancestor going to help us or not?"
Samyaza turned to look at Aimar as he smiled.
"Horus' Reincarnation," he said again. "It's good to see you getting stronger."
Aimar didn't move his gaze. "Should I be thankful—?"
"God Set will soon start planning to kill you," Samyaza spoke brightly. "As soon as you reach Eternal, you will have a god after you."
Aimar's face immediately fell. "….What?"
Samyaza didn't give him another glance as he turned to look at me. "I can help you, Himmel," he said. "If you help me."
"I am not joining your Watchers team—"
"Not that," he spoke again. "I want something else."
I blinked. "What?"
He moved back as he said loudly, "Mind explaining to him."
A familiar feeling immediately caught my attention.
'….El?'
