Chapter 494: The New Christina.
[A Day Later.]
[A few minutes earlier.]
It's been a whole day since my encounter with Anubis.
A whole day since Christina got a new body.
And as I look at her sleeping peacefully on the bed… I was getting more and more anxious.
[<You are thinking too much.>]
Inna's voice echoed in my mind, scolding me.
[<She is fine, all she needs is time.>]
'...'
I know it will take time to assimilate her soul with the new body but…
"Sigh…."
Exhaling deeply, I looked around the room, towards the window, and only then did I notice it was already morning.
'….What is Nymeria doing?'
I thought as I turned to look towards the door.
It only took me a second to notice her in the kitchen.
'….She is bringing me food?'
I slowly retracted my gaze as I looked back at Christina.
There will be a lot of things that I would need to explain to her.
Knock!
A gentle knocking on the door made me glance back.
"Come in." I said with a smile as Nymeria stood there.
She was still in her nightgown, holding a small tray with steaming soup and bread.
Her eyes, as always, avoided mine for a moment before settling on Christina.
"…She's still asleep," Nymeria said softly.
"Yeah," I replied, leaning back in the chair beside the bed. "She hasn't moved since last night."
Nymeria walked over quietly and placed the tray on the small table near me.
The aroma of herbs filled the room.
"You should eat," she said. "You've been sitting there all night."
I glanced at her. "You haven't slept a bit as well, right?"
Nymeria frowned a little, clearly not liking me pointing it out.
"Just eat." She hesitated for a second. "…Should I feed you?"
I hesitated to answer, it's been months since she has been feeding me but—.
[<Just say no.>] Inna advised. [<She will understand.>]
I smiled softly. "Not today."
Nymeria didn't ask anything else as she sat on the bed right beside Christina.
The girl kept on staring at Christina without saying anything.
I took the tray as I began to eat.
[<By the way, you can feel those two right?>]
'Yeah, but I don't want to deal with them now.'
[<Alright.>]
Nymeria spoke softly, grabbing my attention. "….She looks beautiful."
"She does," I said quietly, placing the spoon back into the bowl.
I carved her as the most ideal woman for me, of course she would look breathtaking.
[<I would like to point out something—.>]
'Kindly shut up.'
Nymeria chuckled under her breath, though it sounded half-hearted.
"She used to talk a lot about you back then." She spoke. "How 'great' her fiancé was."
"...."
I didn't speak because I know I was the shittiest person to her.
Despite my own circumstances, I would never forgive myself for making her cry and forever be grateful that she didn't give up on me.
Nymeria's fingers gently brushed Christina's blanket, tracing the folds.
There was a quiet sadness in her movements… not jealousy exactly, but something close to it.
"I can understand everything, Himmel but…" Nymeria slowly glanced at me. "What happened to her ear?"
"...."
I opened my mouth to speak but closed it once again, lowering my head in shame.
[<What a loveable racist you are.>]
'Shut up.'
My gaze remained on Nymeria as she reached out to touch Christina's face.
'Hm?'
But just as her fingertip touched, the air around us changed.
Then Christina's fingers twitched.
Both Nymeria and I froze.
Her hand shifted slightly, and her lips parted as if she were trying to speak.
"Christina?" I said quickly, leaning closer.
Her brows furrowed slightly, a soft, pained sound escaping her throat.
Nymeria placed a hand on my arm. "She's waking up."
My heart quickened as I watched her eyelids flutter.
The air in the room trembled faintly with the stirring of her mana; it was weak but familiar.
Finally, her eyes opened.
A soft crimson hue met mine, hazy and unfocused.
She blinked slowly, her lips trembling as she whispered the first word that came to her.
"…Qais?"
For a moment, everything stopped and even Inna went silent.
Then, I smiled… genuinely, without restraint. "…Welcome back."
Christina blinked, confusion flickering across her tired face.
She tried to get back up and I quickly helped her lean on the bedframe.
"….You look a lot different." Christina said softly. "…More mature."
I smiled as I grabbed her hand, squeezing it tightly. "…I grew up, you know."
Christina's gaze flickered towards the other woman inside the room. "Am I seeing things or is it Nymeria standing there?"
Nymeria smiled softly, waving her hand. "Hii!"
Confused, Christina waved her hand back.
She remained silent for a long second before she looked at my face. "…I died didn't I?"
I nodded my head.
"….You brought me back?" She asked again. "….Back to life?"
"Yeah," I said quietly. "I brought you back."
For a moment, she didn't say anything.
She just stared at me, her crimson eyes reflecting a thousand thoughts, emotions, and memories that hadn't yet settled.
Her hand trembled slightly in mine, cold but alive.
"….Are you alright?" She asked, looking at me concernedly. "You didn't get hurt, right?"
"I am fine." I said. "And I should be the one asking that."
"…I feel alive?" She spoke. "And oddly weak."
"Yeah, that's because your new body—."
Bam!
My words were cut off as the sound of something heavy falling echoed within the room.
All our eyes turned towards the two boys lying on the ground while hugging each other.
'….The fuck are these two jokers doing?'
Oliver and Aimar quickly got separated as they finally stood up.
Oliver quickly turned into a girl as he smiled and walked towards me.
"Oh, ho." He said, wrapping his arms around me. "Who is this chick now?"
"...."
I could feel his fake boobs on my arms and that annoyed me a lot.
Oliver smiled as he looked at Christina.
"Just to make sure." He said. "I am the third wife, gotta respect the seniority—."
"Oliver?" Christina spoke softly, her voice bitter with emotions. "…It's you right?"
Oliver slowly removed his hand as he looked at her. "I am sorry, who are you?"
"It's me Christina." She spoke with a broken smile. "….Oliver, you are alive?"
Oliver froze, his expression shattered instantly.
The color drained from his face as his golden eyes widened, trembling ever so slightly.
"...Christy?" he whispered, his voice barely holding together.
Christina smiled weakly, still sitting up against the bedframe.
"Yeah," she said softly. "It's me."
Oliver changed back to his original self as he slowly kneeled close to the bed.
Oliver's lips parted as if he wanted to say something, but the words didn't come.
"…I am glad."
He covered his mouth with his hand, his body trembling like a child holding back tears.
"…I thought I would never see you. I... I am so glad."
Christina's eyes softened at his trembling words.
She reached out, her movements slow but certain, and brushed his hair back like she used to.
Oliver let out a short, broken laugh that ended somewhere between a sob and a snort.
He shook his head and pressed her hand against his cheek.
"I was so miserable when I heard about your death… man, coming back randomly, that's cheating."
"I couldn't leave you all alone," she whispered. "Who else would keep you out of trouble?"
Aimar walked closer as he yanked Oliver by his collar.
Oliver glared at him but Aimar was smiling at Christina.
"Welcome back." He spoke. "I don't really want to ask this but—."
He turned to look at me. "Why the fuck is she an elf?"
"What?" Christina gasped, reaching out to touch her ears. "Wait, I am really an elf!?"
[<How cute.>]
'Shut up.'
I let out a sigh, rubbing my face. "Christina, I can—."
"We should let her rest." Nymeria chimed in, saving me. "She needs some time."
I immediately nodded as I grabbed both Oliver and Aimar, dragging them out.
"I will be back after a few minutes." I said, glancing at Nymeria. "She will stay here if you need any help."
Christina nodded as she smiled.
I closed the door behind me as I brought the twins out with me.
I kept walking, dragging both Oliver and Aimar by their collars like misbehaving kids.
"Alright," I said, stopping in front of the stairs. "Start talking. Why were you both spying from the ceiling like a pair of rats?"
Oliver coughed, brushing off my hand and straightening his collar. "Spying? We were checking on you. Big difference."
"I will shove my leg deep into your ass, motherfucker!" I snapped at him. "I still have a lot to talk with you!"
Oliver smiled. "Not gonna lie, that's kinda erotic."
"....."
Is he trying to make me uncomfortable?
Aimar shoved me towards him. "What type of fucking friend are you!?" He snapped at me. "How can you not tell the difference between him and me!?"
Oh, right. Oliver's bitch ass was impersonating Aimar for a long time.
"Oliver," I said flatly, "why did you even think pretending to be Aimar was a good idea?"
Oliver blinked innocently. "Because it was funny?"
"You know what's funny?" Aimar chimed in. "Dying by the hands of a bitch-ass manwhore."
"Aye, I was backstabbed." Oliver yelped in defence. "And I will fuck him over for what he did—."
"Oliver." I cut him off. "….We need to talk."
Oliver blinked innocently before he smiled. "No, we do not."
He turned around but I immediately grabbed his shoulder.
"Stay when I am being polite." I said, my voice more serious than I intended. "Otherwise, I can always break your legs."
Oliver shoved my hand aside as he turned to look into my eyes.
"Try me, ladyboy."
His body immediately vanished after that.
I closed my eyes as I let the information flow through my mind.
'You aren't escaping today.'
