Chapter 242: System Points?
Two paths. Two futures. Two entirely different ways to play the beautiful game.
He focused, and the system, now clean, stable, and obedient, presented the choice with stark, simple clarity.
[Mode 1: 'The Player' (Passive Analysis & Predictive Data)]
This mode focuses on maximizing individual performance. Your HUD will provide detailed analysis of opponent movements, shot probabilities, and weaknesses. Unlocks a personal progression system based on 'System Points' to acquire new skills and traits.
[Mode 2: 'The Manager' (Active Analysis & Tactical Command)]
This mode focuses on maximizing team performance. Your HUD will provide tactical overlays, synergy analysis, and team-wide status effects. Unlocks advanced command features like 'Synergy Creation' and 'Co-pilot Mode' to influence teammates.
He thought back to the last ninety minutes.
For sixty minutes, he had been a ghost, a player without his power, forced to rely on his own brain, his own voice.
It had been... satisfying.
But then, in those final, glorious twenty minutes, he had scored two goals. He had felt the pure, unadulterated thrill of his own skill, his own instinct, taking over.
He was eighteen years old.
The dream of being a manager, of being a grandmaster of the game, was a beautiful, distant star.
But the dream of being the best player in the world... that was a raging fire, right here, right now.
The choice was easy. It had always been easy.
With a firm, decisive mental command, he selected the first option.
Mode 1: The Player.
The world didn't just change; it upgraded.
The text-heavy, chaotic alerts that had plagued his Vision vanished. In their place, a sleek, minimalist Heads-Up Display materialized in his mind's eye. I
t was beautiful. It was simple.
It was like going from an old, clunky computer to a brand new, top-of-the-line gaming rig.
He looked at Byon, who was walking towards him, a huge, goofy grin on his face.
As Leon's eyes focused on his friend, the new interface sprang to life.
A simple, elegant bar appeared above Biyon's head.
[Byon G. | Po: 91 | Cu: 88]
That was it. No complex stats, no unnecessary text. Just the two most important numbers, clean and clear. He glanced at Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was laughing with Andy Robertson.
[Trent A-A | Po: 92 | Cu: 91]
He felt a wave of pure, unadulterated relief wash over him.
Finally.
The system was no longer a confusing, mysterious entity. It was a tool. A simple, powerful, and beautiful tool.
A new window popped up in his HUD, labeled 'USER STATUS'.
[Leon | Po: 96 | Cu: 89]
[System Points (SP): 350]
System Points?
The description had mentioned them. He focused on the number, and a tooltip appeared.
[System Points are awarded for exceptional in-game actions (Goals, Assists, Key Passes, Successful Dribbles). SP can be used in the 'Skill Store' to acquire and upgrade Skills & Traits.]
A grin spread across his face. This was a game.
His entire life, his entire career, had just been turned into the greatest, most thrilling video game in the world. And he was ready to grind.
"There he is! The hero!" Byon roared, throwing a sweaty arm around Leon.
"Scoring goals with your eyes closed now, are you?"
"Something like that," Leon laughed, the joy of the win and his new, upgraded system making him feel light as air.
The post-match celebration was a joyous, happy affair.
They didn't go out. The team, especially the younger players who had fought so hard, just ordered a mountain of pizzas and took over the players' lounge at the training ground.
"I have to say," Hugo Ekitike said, his mouth full of margherita pizza, "for a moment there, when you had that shot and the keeper saved it... I thought my heart was going to stop."
"He was just lulling them into a false sense of security," Trent said with a knowing grin. "It was a tactical miss. All part of the plan."
"Exactly," Leon agreed, playing along.
"All calculated."
They re-watched the highlights, roaring with laughter at the sheer absurdity of the game. They saw Leon's first shot, the one where his system had rebooted, and his split-second hesitation.
"See!" Byon yelled, pointing at the screen.
"Look at him! He's just standing there! He's admiring his own hair in the big screen!"
They saw Leon's instinctive, brilliant dribble and the perfect curved pass for Ekitike's goal.
"Okay, that was just rude," Andy Robertson said with an appreciative whistle. "You can't do that to a man. He has a family."
And they saw Leon's final, beautiful, curling goal.
"The magician is back!" Salah, who had been resting but had come down to congratulate them, said with a nod of approval.
"Good work, kid."
It was perfect. The praise from his teammates, the easy banter, the feeling of a hard-fought victory. He was a part of this family, and the feeling was incredible.
Later that night, back in the quiet of his own room, the excitement of the day was still buzzing through his veins.
He couldn't sleep. He was too curious. The 'Skill Store'.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and focused his intent.
Open Skill Store.
A new screen materialized in his mind, sleek and futuristic.
It was like an online shop, with different categories and glowing icons.
[SKILL STORE - Available System Points: 350 SP]
[Categories: Shooting | Dribbling | Passing | Physical | Traits]
He mentally clicked on the 'Shooting' category.
A list of skills appeared, each with a price in SP.
[Power Shot - Level 1]: Increases shot power by 5%. Cost: 100 SP.
[Finesse Shot - Level 1]: Increases shot accuracy and curve by 5%. Cost: 100 SP.
[Knuckleball Free-Kick - Level 1]: Unlocks the ability to perform a knuckleball shot with a 30% success rate on trajectory. Cost: 500 SP (Locked - Requires more practice).
It was incredible. It was a clear, defined path to his own evolution.
He could see exactly what he needed to do to get better. He browsed through the other categories, his excitement growing with every click. 'Dribbling' had skills like 'Advanced Step-over' and a locked 'Elastico'. 'Passing' had 'Swerve Pass' and 'Lofted Through-Ball'.
Then, he clicked on the last category, the one he was most curious about.
[Traits].
The other categories were about what he could do.
This one seemed to be about what he could be.
The list was shorter, and the skills were more expensive, more abstract.
[Leadership - Level 1]: Unlocks a minor morale boost for teammates in close proximity.
Cost: 1000 SP (Locked).
[Second Wind]: Unlocks a one-time stamina boost in the final 10 minutes of a match.
Cost: 1500 SP (Locked).
And then he saw it. At the very bottom of the list.
A trait that was different from the others.
It was glowing with a faint, golden, and almost arrogant light. It was a trait he had seen before, on the profile of the King of Anfield, Mo Salah.
And seeing it here, available for him to learn, to acquire, to become, made a slow, dangerous, and incredibly ambitious smile spread across his face.
[Alpha's Presence - Level 1]: Unlocks a passive trait that designates you as the primary attacking focus. Increases the probability of teammates passing to you in the final third.
Cost: 3000 SP (Locked - Requires 'Current Ability' of 90).
