Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 282: Sneaking Away Unoticed

Continuing to travel through the seemingly endless sea of monsters surging forward in the exact opposite direction she was moving, Scaly could not stop herself from glancing back in the direction of the battle taking place behind her. Not because she needed to keep an eye out for the terrifying human mage, but more so because she felt a sense of profound awe watching the terrifying display of magic. Wondering if she might be able to do something similar in the future herself when her magic became strong enough.

Maybe not the fire tornado with how nonexistent her fire magic was, but instead some of the other large-scale spells he wielded to easily slaughter hundreds if not thousands of monsters with a single wave of his hand. Among the spells used, the one she felt would be the easiest to copy in the future was a spell that combined wind magic and water magic. Creating hundreds of small water blades that were spun together into a large flat wheel with wind magic before being thrown into the horde of monsters, cutting apart hundreds of monsters in the process.

The attack itself might be less impressive looking than the fire tornado, but the destructive of what was essentially a spinning wheel of death didn't lose out when it came to the number of monsters that ended up being killed by it, something that was accomplished through the terrifying human mage still being able to manually control the wheel of death from a distance in a similar way as to how the fire tornado was being moved around.

But… Terrifying as all the attacks thrown out by the human mage was, Scaly still clearly noticed that the monsters showed no signs of stopping and continued to slowly push further up the spiral staircase every time she turned around.

No matter how powerful and terrifying that human was, in the face of seemingly endless number of monsters that showed no signs of decreasing even after thousands had ended up at his hands, there was no way to win. At most, he could use his terrifying strength to delay the inevitable, as the monsters continued to push upwards towards the second floor of the dungeon.

By the time that she finally managed to leave the monster horde and found herself standing on top a fallen tree that had already been trampled deep into the ground, the humans that had been holding the line at the spiral staircase now barely visible in the distance had already disappeared. Having been unable to hold the line any longer and been forced to retreat up to the second floor of the dungeon where the battle would undoubtedly continue.

If not for the current injured state of one of her wings and complete lack of mana, she would have really wanted to join in and continue her rapid leveling. Unfortunately, her wing would need at least a few hours to recover, while her mana might need longer.

However, she wasn't entirely sad about this turn of events, as she honestly didn't really want to join the struggle at the second floor of the dungeon. Knowing that even if she did have the ability to fly, it wouldn't be that useful in the tunnels and caves that made up the second floor of the dungeon. Instead of that, it might be for the best to lay flat until the battle moved from the second floor of the dungeon to the first floor.

The main reason being that she still clearly remembered that the first floor where her journey in this world had started with hunting down oversized rats was a large open forest. Meaning that she would be able to make full use of her flying abilities to remain safe.

Well… Almost safe, as she still remembered how that terrifying human had not just unleashed countless terrifying spells but also seemed to have the ability to fly.

In any case, she felt that she should be able to keep herself safe if she avoided those terrifying adventures above level 100, something that shouldn't be too difficult given that they would find themselves busy dealing with the monster horde.

Feeling like she had a certain plan in mind for what to do after she recovered from her injuries, Scaly found a few dead monsters she remembered were especially delicious lying around and happily chomped down on them while looking at the sea of monsters slowly disappearing up the spiral staircase.

Fast as these monsters were moving to get up to the second floor of the dungeon, it would still be another hour or two before all of them managed to push their way through, as there were simply far too many monsters around for a single spiral staircase.

With that in mind, Scaly decided to take the opportunity while she was eating to check her status to see how much her strength had improved after the rapid leveling, she had just gone through.

Name: Scaly

Race: Dreamscale Dragon

Dragon blood: 31% (Uncommon)

Level: 16/40, 23%

Mana Heart: Second Circle

STR: 817 |VIT: 1957 | DEX: 1119 | M: 3262

Magic: [Dragon Water Magic, lvl 8], [Ice Magic lvl 1], [Wind Magic, lvl 6], [Lightning Magic, lvl 3], [Dream Magic lvl 2]

Skills: [Dragon Bloodline, lvl 4], [Dragon Flight, lvl 7], [Poison Resistance, lvl 4], [Dragon Claw Strike, lvl 8], [Dragon Breath (Water), lvl 5], [Corrosion Resistance, lvl 3], [Pain Resistance, lvl 5], [Swimming, lvl 4], [Dragon Heart, lvl 1], [Endless Vitality, lvl 1], [Agility, lvl 1]

Looking through her status that had shown significant improvements, Scaly noticed that outside of her dragon water magic, lightning magic and the dragon flight skill that had increased in level like she had expected them to after having used those abilities during her ambush of weakened monsters, there was also another skill that had improved more than she had expected. That skill being her dragon breath skill, having improved an entire two levels after only a single use.

Although that one use had essentially used up all her mana and caused devastation beyond anything she had done in the past, it was still surprising to see that it had managed to increase the level of her dragon breath skill by so much.

But maybe the most confusing change to her status was the fact that her dream magic had somehow also increased from level 1 to level 2.

How this had happened, she had no idea.

The only guess was that she might have unconsciously used dream magic in some way without noticing. After all, dream magic was inherent to her current evolution as a dreamscale dragon, unconsciously using the magic to aid herself wasn't too hard to believe.

If anything, this gave her hope that she might end up finding a way to enter the dreamscape naturally, something that would be able to save her the trouble of figuring out how to use her dream magic to travel between the material plane and the dreamscape herself. Believing firmly that once she experienced travelling to the dreamscape with the help of dream magic, she would be able to replicate it and gain the ability to move between the two planes of existence.

With that in mind, she unconsciously inspected the dream magic to see if any hint on how to use it might have appeared after the level increased.

Huh…? This…

[Dream Magic, lvl 2]: Allows the use of dream magic, level too low to enter dreamscape. Dream harder and you might actually be able to increase the level of your dream magic~

However, outside of the description she had seen before, there was also an added line of text telling her that her level in dream magic was too low to enter the dreamscape, while also adding what sounded like a rather rude comment regarding increasing the level of her dream magic.

Dream harder? How was she supposed to dream harder? Sleep more? Sleep longer?

Scaly had no idea how to accomplish what the description told her to do and still had no idea about how her dream magic had leveled up in the first place nor any clue how she would be able to level it up in the future.

Unless… She really needed to sleep more to increase the level of her dream magic? But if that was the case, how had she leveled up her dream magic just now?

Feeling like her head was starting to hurt thinking about how to level up her dream magic, Scaly decided not to think about it any longer for now and instead focused her attention on the slowly shrinking sea of monsters in the distance. Chomping back down on an especially delicious dead monster while she shuffled around a bit to make herself comfortable.

Given that there weren't any monsters or humans around any longer as they were all moving starting to gather at the second floor of the dungeon, she didn't feel like it mattered much where she laid down to recover any longer and just decided on using what she considered a comfortable location to recover.
