Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 277: Creator of the Monster Stampede...

Observing how the stronger monsters kept staying behind while only the weaker useless monsters continued charging towards the barrier guarding the city, Scaly understood that she had to find some way to get those stronger monsters involved in battle or she would never be able to take advantage of the situation to hit them while they were down.

The problem was, even though she wanted to do something about the current situation, she had no idea what to do to get the stronger monsters to charge forward.

Well… That is not entirely true, as they would almost certainly charge forward if I managed to destroy the barrier protecting the city, but… Doing so would place me at the center of attention for not just the stronger monsters in the monster horde, but also the adventurers guarding the city…

Shaking her head as she thought this to herself while looking towards the barrier that kept blocking any monster that managed to sneak past the adventurers guarding the city from outside the barrier itself, Scaly understood that making a move herself to attack the barrier was out of the question.

Even if she felt confident in destroying the barrier by going all out with her magic. Doing so would end up with her becoming the target of both the adventurers and the monsters below, something she wanted to avoid. Understanding that becoming the center of attention was far from beneficial for someone who wanted to sneakily ambush others.

Not to mention, though she was safe in the sky for now, she had seen several flying monsters and mages capable of attacking her down below. Meaning that she wasn't entirely safe up in the air if she ended up becoming the main target of both the adventurers and monsters at the same time.

But she couldn't do nothing…

Quietly observing the situation below, her brain worked overtime trying to figure out a solution to this problem she found herself facing that couldn't be solved in the way she was used to solving problems, a few minutes flew by with the state of the siege below remaining the same without any changes to the monsters attacking the city.

During these few minutes, Scaly came up with several ideas on how to get the stronger monsters to attack the city, but all of them ultimately involved exposing herself to the adventurers. Only at the very end did she come up with a plan that didn't involve herself being noticed by the adventurers.

The plan in question being for her to find other monster hordes on the island and get them to join up with the monster hordes that had already joined up to besiege Fish Stone City.

In her eyes, as the monster horde grew in both size and strength with more powerful monsters in the mix, it should also become more unstable, and some stronger monsters would inevitably end up attacking the Fish Stone City. At which point, the rest would feel inclined to follow.

Flawed as this kind of plan might be, Scaly didn't really feel like it would be bad if the monster horde became stronger. After all, the stronger the monster horde, the higher the likelihood of attracting more adventurers, something that would cause the scale of the battle to grow and make it easier for her to sneakily kill off the weakened adventurers or monsters without being noticed.

In a way, as Scaly began thinking about gathering the monster hordes that should be roaming across the island, she found herself on, she also began wondering what would happen if all the monsters gathered into a single massive horde and clashed with the adventurers head on.

If something like that happened, the scale of the battle would become so large that it would be easy for someone like herself to easily slip by unnoticed.

Whoosh~

Already dreaming about how fast her strength would be able to grow in that kind of environment, Scaly didn't linger around Fish Stone City any longer and directly left the place to search for other monster hordes, something that was rather simple for her to do now that she could fly and easily spot any large gathering of monsters from far away without first having to climb up a mountain.

Because of this, not even a minute after she flew off, she found another monster horde roaming the land while moving in the direction of the town that had barely managed to hold on against the monster horde that had come all the way from the fifth floor of the dungeon-

Boom!

Roar!

Rooooaaar-!

ROAR!

And with little to no effort, she managed to draw their attention with the help of her rather loud lightning magic. Wasting no time in drawing them in the direction of Fish Stone City before disappearing amidst the clouds above, causing the monsters below to run around like headless flies for a few seconds before spotting the monster horde besieging Fish Stone City in the distance.

Rumble~

And without wasting any time, the monster horde rushed over to join their companions in taking down Fish Stone City, something that made Scaly feel a hint of anticipation, as she watched how these new monsters quickly integrated with the larger horde and began to attack Fish Stone City.

However, different from the cautious monsters, these new ones didn't hold back or hide away. Instead rushing headfirst into the barrier and adventurers. In the lead, a large boar monster that was no weaker than the greater dire wolf lord she had killed earlier.

Unfortunately, though this did create some pressure for the adventurers, it had little effect on those stronger monsters that remained hidden. Only causing brief unrest before the situation calmed down again after the boar monster was restrained by an A Rank Adventurer.

Unsuccessful as this attempt of hers was when it came to the original goal, it did have some effect… And if she continued adding more monsters in, she felt that those stronger monsters still hidden wouldn't be able to hold themselves back.

And so, after ensuring that the boar monster wouldn't end up dying to the adventurers while she was gone, Scaly set off to find more monsters to join the battle against the adventurers at Fish Stone City…

Soon enough, a shift began to take place on the island, as all the monsters that had originally been spread across the island attacking different towns began to gather into a single massive horde attacking the Fish Stone City.

This kind of change was almost immediately noticed by the adventurers guarding Fish Stone City and information about the situation was quickly transferred to those in charge of managing the overall state of the dungeon to ensure that nothing went wrong and the monsters were kept on the third floor of the dungeon.

The shift around Fish Stone City was not something they had anticipated, as it was something that hinted at the situation taking a turn for the worse. Generally, monsters gathering like that could be considered a prelude to a true monster stampede where all the monsters gathered into a single massive horde.

These worries caused more adventurers to be sent over, causing the original dozen or so A Rank Adventurer to swell into fifty in a short time, something that ended up proving to be the correct choice, as shortly after all the monsters on the island where Fish Stone City was located had gathered together into a single monster horde, monsters all across the third floor of the dungeon began to abandon their attacks and began to move towards Fish Stone City.

The large number of monsters easily crossing the sea by having the abundant aquatic monsters carry them.

Soon enough causing the scale of the battle at Fish Stone City to become the central battlefield between the monsters trying to ascend to the second floor of the dungeon and the adventurers doing their best to stop this from happening.

In the end, to ensure stability of the situation, one of the few S Rank Adventurers currently inside the dungeon rushed over to deal with any powerful monsters that might emerge and at the same time also help fight back against the now endless sea of monsters that surrounded Fish Stone City on all sides. Making the city look like nothing more than a small boat barely keeping itself above water in the middle of a violent storm.

The barrier that guarded the city had already been close to breaking several times under the unrelenting attack of the monster horde.

All the while, Scaly, the one behind the current massive battle, was happily smiling to herself watching those powerful monsters that had remained hidden so far finally revealing themselves to join the rest of the monsters in attacking Fish Stone City.

Everything that had ended up happening was just what she wanted, and she had been completely forgotten or just ignored by the monsters that had kept an eye on her earlier. Meaning that she was once again free to silently finish off the weakened monsters that were forced to retreat from the frontlines every now and then.
