Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 274: Death From Above 2.0

Following the monster horde closely, Scaly didn't take long to realize the target of these monsters being another town or more accurately a small port city with a heavenly staircase in the middle of it leading back up to the second floor of the dungeon. Not only was this small port city larger than the town, but the strength of the humans guarding this small port city had also surpassed the ones she had seen guarding the town by a lot…

[Human, Guardian Knight, lvl 62]

[Human, Grand Elemental Mage, lvl 65]

[Human, Shield Guardian, lvl 57]

[Human, Flame Bringer, lvl 72]

[Human, Bringer of…]

Among the ones she spotted holding the frontline against the large horde of monsters already in the process of besieging the port city, there was one that was close to comparable to the powerful human she had seen causing chaos back on the fourth floor of the dungeon in the past.

Although…

[Greater Dire Wolf Lord, lvl 75]

This human was being pinned down by an equally powerful monster that showed no sign of allowing this powerful human to run rampant and carve a path of blood through horde of monsters. Showing that there was no lack of powerful monsters inside the monster horde, though, Scaly did have a feeling that this greater dire wolf lord should be the leader of this monster horde. Not sensing any stronger monsters still lurking in the dark like she had when looking through the monster horde that had come all the way from the fifth floor of the dungeon.

Understandable, as the strength of monsters from the fifth floor of the dungeon would undoubtedly surpass that of those from the third floor of the dungeon or fourth floor of the dungeon if this group of monsters had come from there. After all, she had no idea if the humans guarding the secondary passage leading up to the third floor of the dungeon had been killed by the horde of monsters she had been following or a monster horde that had passed through earlier.

No matter what, Scaly could already feel her excitement growing as she watched the desperate battle playing out below.

From a glance, it was clear that the human held the advantage against the greater dire wolf lord and had already managed to land a deadly blow that had severely weakened it and resulted in a slowly losing battle that would end with the death of the greater dire wolf lord if things dragged on for another few minutes.

Unfortunately for the eager human, reinforcements were about to arrive and would undoubtedly be able to show up in time to save the greater dire wolf lord before it ended up being killed by the powerful human.

But… Everything was not lost, as she was here!

Having taken advantage of her speed, she had arrived a minute or so before the monster horde would show up alongside the group of powerful humans who seemed to be chasing after the horde of monsters in an attempt to stop them from breaching the small port city and make their way up to the second floor of the dungeon. An area she knew from her own experience had absolutely no defense infrastructure in the form of towns and smaller cities in place.

Not that any of that really mattered to her, as she was a dragon. Not a human who cared much about the situation of these humans outside of how much she could take advantage of the current situation to increase her own strength.

And as it so happened, the current situation was another perfect chance for her, as unlike the monsters from the monster horde rushing over already somewhat aware of her presence, the monster horde besieging the human port city had no idea about her presence. Meaning that she would be able to easily ambush the already injured greater dire wolf lord that already found itself struggling in the face of the powerful human, who had essentially chased the greater dire wolf lord deeper into the monster horde as it began to flee upon realizing the seriousness of its injuries.

Hm? But… Why should I only target the greater dire wolf lord? Wouldn't it be better if I could kill both…?

However, just as she was about to sweep down and kill the greater dire wolf lord, Scaly found herself freezing on the spot. Realizing that she was being far too conservative with how she was doing things.

Why on earth would she just settle for one quick kill when she could get two at once? Wasn't that far better? Not to mention, that human had already willingly isolated himself, believing that there wasn't anyone else capable of challenging him inside the monster horde. Leaving himself wide open for an ambush…

No! I can't let go of this kind of opportunity!

Narrowing both her eyes as she came to a decision, Scaly silently adjusted her target from the already injured greater dire wolf lord to the human chasing it. Intending to first take down the powerful human, as it was clear he was the strongest and most deadly opponent, while she could finish up the already injured greater dire wolf lord after she killed the human.

Swish-!

And so, without the slightest bit of hesitation left, Scaly dove straight down towards the unguarded back of the human still eagerly chasing after the injured greater dire wolf lord. Making full use of her wind magic to further increase her own speed. Reaching a level of speed that even an S Rank Adventurer would find difficult to react to, let alone an A Rank Adventurer whose entire attention was focused elsewhere.

"Huh?"

Only when it was already far too late, did the human realize something was wrong-

Fwoosh-!

Swoosh~

Barely using his magic to conjure up a flimsy flame barrier that Scaly easily cut through with her water blade spell before following up with a simple claw strike that carried with it the terrifying momentum generated by her terrifying speed-

PTSH! Craaack~!

Something that caused the poor adventurer to find his head halfway cut off, while the remaining force launched him flying into a nearby group of monsters...

A process that not only ended up with his own death, but also that of the monster unfortunate enough to be in the way of his body as it came flying at them at a terrifying speed that directly shattered the sound barrier.

R-Roar…?

Seeing this, the greater dire wolf lord that had been fleeing so far froze on the spot filled with a sense of both fear and awe as it looked towards the relatively small monster compared to itself that had so easily managed to kill the human that had landed it in its current half dead state-

Swish~ Ptsh!

However, before the greater dire wolf lord even had the chance to bow down before her in respect and thanks to its fellow monster, Scaly used another water blade to finish it off. Killing it on the spot, while also bringing her own level all the way to level 9.

Once again, she experienced the process of rapidly increasing her strength by taking advantage of others and she simply couldn't help feeling a sense of growing excitement when she thought about the group of powerful humans and the monster horde about to join this battle in another half minute or so.

The larger this battle became, the better it would be for her, as there would only be more opportunities like that for her in the future. The rapid progress even made her dream about using this large war playing out between the humans and the monsters to increase her own level all the way up to 40 and go through her sixth evolution.

Of course, this was realistically not going to happen, but she could always dream, as she once again ascended back into the sky to observe the battle that was about to grow even more chaotic in a short time. Already looking forward to seeing who would end up falling first between the two parties, the humans or the monsters.

No matter which of the two ended up falling first, she would ultimately be the one to benefit in the end.

All she had to do was silently watch from above and ensure she was ready to swoop down when it was time, while also ensuring that she remained out of sight and out of mind in process. Doing her best to not get noticed by either of the two parties, as it would undoubtedly become far harder for her to ambush them after they realized what she was up to.

Who knew, they might even make some kind of truce to first team up to deal with her before resuming their battle…
