Chapter 17: Valheim Magic Academy[1]

The sound of my footsteps echoed on the sturdy wooden floor of the carriage.
Solon sprawled on one of the beds, seemingly deep in thought, staring blankly at the ceiling.
We were currently waiting for Julius to arrive and take us to Valheim Magic Academy.
We had finished everything we came here for.
Solon had already received the blessing of the [Crown of Lumos].
This thing he got was broken as hell.
Not to mention the power it would add to him and the aura that would make others hesitant to face him, this crown is capable of influencing the will of others, whether by persuading, subduing, or even granting them a portion of its light.
I, on the other hand, despite getting answers to most of the questions, was left hanging with other questions.
The realization that I had been suffering from mana poisoning all this time was unacceptable to me. Not to mention there wasn't an excessive amount of mana in the village, how did my body absorb that huge amount of it?
I should have been a black hole for that to happen…
And what the saintess said about my body mutating too, I'm still amazed by what happened when she cut my hand. My healing speed was extremely fast and far from normal.
It made me wonder what might be happening inside my body, and whether it was normal or not. I keep telling myself that it might just be a side benefit of being the Pale Moon.
While I was pondering this, Julius entered the carriage. He stared at us both before nodding. "Let's go."
✦
A few minutes later, the carriage carrying us stopped in front of the main gate of a vast land that stretched for unbelievable distances. Inside it, countless buildings were placed in this vast land, making it look small in comparison.
Its strong walls, bearing the marks of time, stood proudly. Towers rose above them, holding giant blue crystals in their center, carrying a huge amount of magic, making it a magnificent sight at night. Above these giant towers, the flags of the Valheim kingdom were placed to stand proudly.
This was Valheim Magic Academy.
When we got out of the carriage, Solon couldn't help but express his amazement at the view.
"This… is unbelievable."
"You better get used to this now. You don't want people here to look down on you." I patted Solon's shoulder and gave him some advice.
Julius appeared outside the carriage behind us, wearing the same knight armor he always wore. With the same stony expression on his face, he led us into the academy grounds.
Looking around, I could see many carriages and people of all classes flocking in queues in front of the academy guards. Some looked at us with envy, while others looked at us with curiosity.
-"Isn't that the emblem of the Church of Light?"
-"Yes. I can't believe they're taking students into the academy again after that incident."
-"Damn it! I didn't come for this!"
And the complaints kept pouring in from behind us.
Julius lowered his head, while Solon felt confused by the accusations directed at us. His facial expression said, "What did I do?" which made me pat his shoulder again and urge him to keep moving.
As for me?
I paid them no attention and just kept walking.
Ignoring them caused the number of derogatory words they threw at us to increase to the point where I could see Julius trembling in front of me as he restrained himself. His appearance made me feel sorry for him because he couldn't do anything this time.
His church was the one at fault this time. Or their saintess at least.
✦
"You are now officially registered in our academic program. All that remains is to take some tests to determine the categories that suit you."
A female employee spoke from behind her desk in the reception hall. She handed us small papers with our numbers printed on them, pointing to a door on the side.
She didn't take long to register our names after Julius gave her our recommendation letter, which made things easier.
That was one of the benefits of being the protagonist's brother…
Julius stood by the door like a bodyguard and stopped us before we entered. He didn't need to remind us of what the church told us, so we just nodded before entering.
We were greeted by the sight of a large hall filled with students our age. There were many seats arranged in a U-shape at the back of the hall. At the front of the hall, there were three rooms with guards standing next to them.
Every now and then, the guards would shout numbers, and students would come and take tests in the sections they applied to.
Valheim Magic Academy revolved around three sections: the Physical Section, the Magical Section, and the Scientific Section.
Solon chose the Physical and Magical Sections to be tested in, while I chose the Magical and Scientific Sections. Since my body wasn't in the best shape, I didn't choose the Physical Section, but I will definitely join Physical Section classes.
It was necessary to take these tests first to make sure you were qualified. If you weren't, you would simply be kicked out and sent home.
No institution wanted to waste its time and resources on useless people, even if they were nobles themselves.
Power alone ruled… at least for the other kingdoms. The kingdom of Valheim somehow prided itself on scientists more. This was going to change very soon when they realized they needed power as much as they needed intelligence.
I ignored the rooms and focused on the people with us in the hall.
Since I've skipped many scenes in the game, I naturally didn't realize that we would encounter the main cast this quickly…
I took Solon with me to sit on one of the seats near a familiar character.
"Damn it! You scared me, bro. What's wrong with your face?"
The boy sitting next to us spoke in fear, which made Solon laugh.
'Was he talking about me?' I thought confusedly.
"Your hair. Hahahaha."
Solon said between his laughs, which cleared things up for me.
Most of my face was hidden behind my hair, which gave me the look that made him afraid of my sudden appearance.
And here I was thinking that I was doing a service to society by hiding it…
"This, my friend, is an initiative from me for the sake of society. You'll thank me later."
"Ahem. I'm Solon, and this is Selas. We're pleased to meet you." Solon spoke quickly, shaking the boy's hand, trying to cover up what I said.
Tsk, I really meant it though…
The boy returned the handshake. "Likewise. My name is Ned. Ned Noodlehead—"
"Pfft! Hahahahahahaha!"
Before he could continue his sentence, my laughter burst out despite myself, drawing momentary attention to us. Even Solon's face showed signs of resisting laughter, but he failed miserably.
"Noodlehead? Seriously, what kind of name is that?" I said between my laughs.
"Oh, come on, man. Not you too…"
Unfortunately for him, the name seemed to suit him perfectly.
Ned was a half-human, half-elf, which was evident in his beauty, but his hair… his yellow hair took on a twisted shape as it fell on the sides of his face, giving the impression that it was a delicious plate of noodles.
Among the main cast, Ned truly deserved his role as the group's clown, whether with his strange appearance or his sense of humor.
