Reignition of The Dragon

Chapter 32: The Unseen War

The cool night air brushed against Daenerys' skin as she stood atop the Great Pyramid of Meereen, her gaze fixed on the city below. The flickering torchlights and lanterns painted a picture of calm, but she knew better. Beneath the surface, war waged in the shadows.

She had survived the attempt on her life, but the message had been clear—her enemies were watching, waiting, and they were willing to strike when she least expected it. If she did not act swiftly, another attempt would come. Next time, she might not be so fortunate.

"They think they can take Meereen from me." Her voice was cold, quiet, but filled with certainty. "They think I will let them."

Drogon, perched on the edge of the pyramid, let out a low, guttural growl, as if sensing his mother's anger. His wings twitched, his red-black scales shimmering under the moonlight. Viserion and Rhaegal circled the skies above, their presence a silent warning to all who still doubted her rule.

She would not sit idly by. The time for caution had passed.

The Council Gathers

The war council convened in the throne room, their expressions tense. Tyrion sat with a goblet of wine in his hand, but he had barely touched it—a clear sign that even he was troubled. Grey Worm stood by the door, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword, his posture rigid as always. Missandei sat near Daenerys, her face lined with concern.

Ser Barristan had returned only hours earlier with troubling news.

"There is no doubt now," he said, his voice grim. "The poison came from Yeen."

Tyrion frowned, tapping a finger against the wooden table. "Yeen is a ruin, but the shadow of its past lingers. It is a place of sorcery and old blood. Whoever plotted your death has powerful allies."

"Who?" Daenerys demanded.

Barristan exhaled slowly. "The Wise Masters of Yunkai, the slavers, and perhaps even Volantis. They fear what you represent. They fear the end of their rule."

"Good," Daenerys said, her voice like steel. "Let them fear me. But I will not wait for them to strike again. We will move first."

Tyrion leaned forward. "War is costly, Daenerys. Even a queen cannot fight on all fronts."

"Then we find their weak points," she said. "We will not march blindly into their traps."

A silence stretched between them as they all weighed her words. Then, Grey Worm spoke. "The Sons of the Harpy are still strong. We have killed many, but more rise."

Daenerys clenched her jaw. "Then we make an example of them."

The Price of Betrayal

It did not take long to find those responsible for harboring the Sons of the Harpy. The investigations had begun the moment she awoke from her brush with death, and now, the names had been delivered to her.

The first to fall was a nobleman named Marqos Jal, one of Meereen's wealthiest merchants. He had hidden assassins in his estate, sheltering those who sought to destroy her.

Daenerys did not grant him a trial. She did not give him the luxury of pleading for his life.

"You sought to kill your queen," she said, standing before him as he knelt, bound in chains. "There is only one punishment for treason."

With a single command, Drogon descended upon the man, his black wings casting a shadow over the courtyard. The screams lasted only a moment before fire consumed them.

The nobles of Meereen watched in silence, their faces pale with horror. Let them fear her. Let them understand that she would not be an easy target.

War on the Horizon

By the time the sun rose the next morning, Daenerys had made her decision. Meereen had been secured, for now. But her enemies would not wait. Yunkai still stood. The slavers still thrived in Volantis. And beyond them, the Free Cities whispered of her rise with unease.

She could not sit still. She had to move.

"Prepare the fleet," she commanded. "We march to Yunkai."
