Chapter 21: Fire and Chains
Daenerys stood before her council, her violet eyes scanning the gathered figures. The time for hesitation had passed. The war for Meereen was not just one of shadows and daggers—it was a war for the entire future of Essos.
"We march on Yunkai," she declared.
A hush fell over the room. Then, Daario chuckled, crossing his arms. "About time."
Tyrion sighed, rubbing his temples. "Yunkai is not a weak city, my queen. They've had time to recover since you last humbled them. Their masters will have learned from their mistakes."
"Then I will remind them why they should fear me," Daenerys said coldly.
Grey Worm stepped forward. "We should move swiftly. A long siege will cost us too many men."
Daario nodded. "Agreed. A quick, brutal strike will break them before they have time to react."
Tyrion, however, was frowning. "And if they surrender?"
Daenerys' fingers tightened around the armrest of her throne. "Then they will have a choice—kneel or burn."

The March Begins
The army left Meereen at dawn.
Ten thousand Unsullied marched in perfect formation, their spears gleaming beneath the rising sun. Thousands of freedmen followed, men and women who had taken up arms to fight for their queen. The Dothraki rode ahead, their stallions restless, eager for blood.
Above them all, the dragons soared.
Drogon let out a thunderous roar, while Rhaegon and Viserion swept across the sky, their massive wings casting shadows over the desert.
The sight alone sent a message—Daenerys Stormborn was coming.
---
The Fall of Yunkai
By the time they reached the city, Yunkai's walls were lined with soldiers. The gates were sealed.
But Daenerys had no intention of waiting.
At nightfall, she gave the command.
Drogon descended first, unleashing a torrent of fire upon the city's outer defenses. The walls blackened and cracked, heat warping the iron gates. Then came the battering rams, the Unsullied moving with precision, breaking through the weakened entrance.
The battle did not last long.
The Yunkish forces, unprepared for the sheer force of Daenerys' assault, crumbled within hours. The masters who had once sneered at her fled in desperation, but there was nowhere to run.
By morning, Yunkai belonged to the Dragon Queen.

A New Order
Daenerys stood in the plaza where, once, she had freed the city's slaves.
Now, she faced the remnants of its ruling class, kneeling before her in chains.
"You defied me once," she told them. "I showed mercy then. I will not do so again."
One of the masters, trembling, lifted his head. "Mercy, my queen—please! We will serve you, we swear it!"
Daenerys' gaze was ice. "You already had your chance to serve."
She turned to Grey Worm. "Make an example of them."
The executions were swift.
There would be no second rebellion in Yunkai.

The Next Step
Back in her war tent, Daenerys examined the map before her. Yunkai had fallen. Astapor remained, along with Volantis—where the true power behind the slave trade lay.
Tyrion, standing beside her, sighed. "You are not just conquering cities, my queen. You are dismantling an empire."
Daenerys met his gaze. "Then let it burn."
She would not stop until Essos was hers.
And then—Westeros.
The dragon would rise again.
