Regeneration System

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Speed leveling

Over the span of two intense weeks, Kain devoted himself to daily expeditions into the goblin dungeon, honing his skills and gaining invaluable experience. Armed with his trusty blacksmithing hammer and a knife, which he used to carefully extract mana cores, Kain faced goblins ranging from level 2 to level 8. The higher-level goblins presented significant challenges, requiring all of Kain's strength and ingenuity to defeat.

Every encounter was a learning experience, with Kain meticulously collecting the metal weapons left behind by the fallen goblins. These scraps, though crude, would later be reforged into something greater at the Vulcan Forge.

Kain's progression was steady but demanding. The experience points (EXP) system required Kain to accumulate more points with each new level. Starting from level 5, the progression looked like this:

1. **Level 5 to Level 6**: 250 EXP

2. **Level 6 to Level 7**: 300 EXP

3. **Level 7 to Level 8**: 350 EXP

Goblins gave EXP based on their levels relative to Kain's. For instance, a level 4 goblin would give 15 EXP (since it's one level below), while a level 6 goblin would provide 35 EXP (one level above). This system encouraged Kain to tackle stronger foes as he gained confidence and skill.

Calculating Kain's journey through these battles:

- If a level 6 goblin grants 35 EXP and he defeats 3 in a day, that's 105 EXP.

- Day after day, he kept pushing forward, carefully tallying his victories.

Kain gradually advanced through the levels, each battle bringing him closer to his goal. By the end of two weeks, his relentless efforts paid off. He had successfully climbed to level 8, brimming with newfound strength and determination.

The culmination of his training was yet to come, as he now set his sights on the goblin dungeon's formidable final challenge: the boss goblin and its level 8 guards. These encounters would test everything Kain had learned, marking the next pivotal point in his journey.

After killing 79 goblins kain had collected quite a bit of materials, as wells as his total money count went up to 1 silver and 7 copper.

Kain, after spending two grueling weeks in the goblin dungeon, found himself laden with a wealth of materials. The dungeon had become a second home over those two weeks, a challenging and dangerous experience that honed his skills and tested his resolve. Each day, he ventured deeper, battling goblins ranging from level 2 to level 8, extracting mana cores with his knife, and gathering every piece of metal weaponry he could find. The goblin dungeon's eerie corridors and caverns were filled with the echoes of combat, the clanging of his blacksmithing hammer against goblin armor, and the occasional triumphant yell of victory.

Having safely returned to Vulcan's Forge, Kain couldn't help but feel a surge of pride and anticipation. The forge, with its ever-present scent of burning coal and metallic tang, was more than just a workshop; it was a sanctuary of creation and transformation. He had been storing his collected materials here, waiting for the moment when he could convert them into something far more valuable – armor that would protect him in future battles.

Up until now, Kain only had a metal breastplate connected by a leather strap. Reliable and sturdy, it had served him well in combat, but he needed more. Much more. A full set of armor: greaves for his legs, gauntlets for his hands, and a helmet to protect his head. His novice skills as a blacksmith were both a challenge and an opportunity. Crafting armor from scratch was a daunting task, and while he possessed basic knowledge, his true learning would come from hands-on experience and the invaluable advice of Vulcan, the blacksmith who owned the forge.

As Kain prepared to begin his work, he approached the forge with a mix of excitement and humility. He knew he couldn't do this alone. Vulcan, with his decades of experience and wisdom, had offered his guidance. A stocky figure with a beard singed at the ends and eyes that gleamed with the light of the forge, Vulcan's mere presence was reassuring. His voice, gravelly and deep, carried the authority of someone who had crafted weapons and armor for countless warriors.

"Kain, my boy," Vulcan began, clapping a heavy hand on Kain's shoulder, "you've done well to collect all these materials. But gathering scrap and mana cores is just the start. The real work begins here at the forge."

Kain nodded, taking in Vulcan's words. The blacksmith led him to the pile of materials Kain had gathered – rusty swords, bent spears, and worn daggers. "First things first," Vulcan instructed, "we need to convert these scraps into usable ingots. Only then can we start forging the armor you need."

They began by sorting through the pile, selecting pieces with the most potential. Vulcan's practiced eye quickly identified which metals were worth smelting. Under Vulcan's guidance, Kain heated the forge and began the process of melting down the scrap metal. The air filled with the acrid smell of burning impurities as the metal liquefied.

Kain poured the molten metal into molds, each one shaped to form an ingot. Once cooled and solidified, the ingots were ready to be forged into armor. It was hard work, requiring patience and precision. Vulcan watched closely, offering tips and corrections as Kain hammered out the imperfections in the metal. Kain's arms ached, and sweat dripped from his brow, but he persevered. Every strike of the hammer brought him closer to his goal.

Next came the forging of the armor pieces. Kain decided to start with greaves for his legs. Under Vulcan's watchful eye, he heated the metal ingots and began shaping them on the anvil. Crafting armor required not only strength but also a keen understanding of how the metal should bend and fit. Vulcan demonstrated the techniques, showing Kain how to achieve the right curvature and thickness for maximum protection without sacrificing mobility.

Kain's first attempt was far from perfect. The greaves were uneven and ill-fitting. Vulcan inspected them with a critical eye, then offered gentle but firm feedback. "It's a good effort, Kain, but you need to pay more attention to the symmetry and the seams. Keep in mind, armor must be both protective and comfortable for extended wear."

Taking Vulcan's advice to heart, Kain tried again. With each attempt, he learned more about the subtleties of blacksmithing – the importance of consistent heat, the precision of each hammer strike, the patience required to mold the metal just right. By the end of the day, Kain had a set of greaves that fit well and provided solid protection.

Encouraged by his progress, Kain moved on to crafting gauntlets. These were more intricate, requiring attention to the articulation of the fingers. Vulcan showed him how to piece together small metal plates, connecting them with rivets and leather to allow for flexibility. It took several tries, with many frustrated moments and discarded pieces, but eventually, Kain forged a pair of gauntlets he could be proud of.

The helmet proved to be the most challenging piece. It required precise measurements to ensure a snug fit, with padding for comfort and vents for breathability. Kain found himself relying heavily on Vulcan's expertise. The older blacksmith guided him through the process step by step, demonstrating how to create a visor that would protect while allowing for visibility.

After days of effort, the helmet was complete. Kain inspected his newly forged armor set with a sense of accomplishment. Each piece represented not just hours of labor, but also a symbol of his growth as both a warrior and a blacksmith. The finished set gleamed under the forge's light, a testament to perseverance and learning.

Kain donned the full armor, feeling the weight and protection it offered. He moved around, testing the flexibility and comfort. It was far from perfect, but it was a significant improvement over his original breastplate and leather strap. He knew that with Vulcan's guidance and his own determination, he would continue to improve and forge even better equipment in the future.

Standing at the forge, clad in his newly crafted armor, Kain felt ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. The goblin dungeon, with its level 8 guards and formidable level 10 boss goblin, beckoned. This time, he would enter the fray with confidence, his armor a shield against the dangers that awaited.

With a final nod from Vulcan and a renewed sense of purpose, Kain set his sights on the next adventure, knowing that the forge would always be there to support his journey.
