Reflection of the Shattered Mirror

Chapter 6: New Destiny (6)

Merle leads me to a meadow, and we start looking for the Yarrows. Well... Berricheck, in this world.

We look around, and we find around 5 so far in the span of 20 minutes. I look up at the sky. It's cloudless today... I sigh and close my eyes for a moment.

The air is very different from my hometown. It's fresh, and I can smell the blooming flowers and the trees. It all feels very unfamiliar.

I go back to collecting and searching for the Berrichecks. After around an hour or so, I meet up with Merle, and we count the number of flowers that we collected. "I have 12. How many do you have?"

"I collected 16 so far." He answers and shows me his findings. I nod and put the flowers together. So, now we have 28. I look at the commission, and I look back at Merle.

"Alright. The commission is done. We also have 8 more than we need. What do we do with it?" I ask and wait for his answer.

"Well, if you have any excess material, then we can either sell it or use it for our own use." He answers and then starts heading back to the guild.

'If I remember correctly, Yarrow leaves can be used to make tea... oh, I wonder if they have any potions or alchemy in this world?'

As we arrive at the guild, we hand in the commission scroll and the requested amount of Berrichecks. I receive 4 bronze, and I smile. "At least some money... how much does a room for one night cost?"

Merle looks at me and gives me a puzzled look. 'He doesn't even know such trivial things? He's such an oddball.' He thinks to himself and sighs.

"One room costs 6 bronze. Full meals and a room provided in the price." I nod and then take a look at other commissions. I need more money, then. It's already the afternoon...

My stomach rumbles, but I ignore it and take on some more commissions to make more coins. 'If I want to survive here, I need to sacrifice something. I'm losing my dignity here... asking such stupid questions.'

'But I need to know!' I try to convince myself, but I give up, knowing it's useless by now. I already humiliated and embarrassed myself far too much in just a day...

After completing more commissions and requests, I feel how my pockets are heavy with coins. I smile to myself once I hear how the coins clink against each other in my pocket. 'What a nice sound!'

"It's already dusk... we should book a room." I speak to Merle, who seems at least a tad more comfortable with me, but I don't look at him. I count the coins, and I do some basic math to count how much money I made.

'3 silver and 2 bronze... alright! So far, so good.' I look around and notice a local tavern. I look at the price for a room. 6 bronze for a night. That's exactly as Merle said.

I go to the tavern and book a room, paying for it, and Merle does the same. I take the key, and I search for my room. I find it, and I unlock it. I glance next to me and see Merle.

'What a coincidence.' I smile a bit and go into the room and close the door. It's pretty small, but it feels homelike.

I take my shoes off and plop onto the bed as I take the mirror and look at it. I need to figure out how to get back to my real home... I touch the frame of the mirror, noticing weird.
