Chapter 89: Chapter 89
Toki turned around to face Konan, Tendo Pain, and Yagura standing behind him.
Toki frowned, not expecting to encounter the people he least wanted to see.
Pakura, standing beside him, looked at Yagura warily, her expression grim.
"The Fourth Mizukage?" she muttered.
At this time, nearly two years had passed since the end of the Third Shinobi War. The Three-Tails had been re-sealed into Yagura by Kirigakure, but Yagura had since fallen under the influence of Obito, Konan, and Pain, becoming their puppet.
Pure Tendo Pain's Strength
In Toki's estimation, Tendo Pain's strength placed him at the peak of the Kage level—capable of defeating powerful foes like the Eight-Tails, but still a step behind those in the Super Kage tier, such as the First Hokage or Madara Uchiha.
Toki analyzed the situation carefully. He estimated his current chances of victory against Tendo Pain were around 60-40, considering his virtual powers and mastery of his Mangekyō Sharingan.
Pain broke the tense silence with a cold voice.
"Uchiha Toki? The leader of the Uchiha clan?"
Toki touched his chin and nodded nonchalantly, thinking through his options if a fight broke out.
"Yes, that's me. What do you want?"
Pain extended his hand toward Pakura.
"I want her."
Toki raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"Are you recruiting people now? That's bold."
Without hesitation, Toki turned his attention to Yagura, whose eyes were dull and lifeless—a sign of genjutsu control. He instantly dispelled the genjutsu, snapping Yagura back to reality.
Yagura's previously lifeless eyes widened in fury, and his chakra surged violently, creating shockwaves that shattered the ground around him.
"You dare!" Yagura roared, gripping his staff and charging directly at Pain.
Pain calmly raised his hand.
"Shinra Tensei."
The repulsive force sent Yagura flying, crashing into the ground. However, in the brief cooldown window of the Shinra Tensei technique, Toki teleported directly in front of Pain using his Mangekyō ability.
"Nani?!" Pain and Konan's expressions shifted dramatically as Toki appeared out of nowhere.
With a swift motion, Toki plunged a kunai into Pain's chest, causing blood to spurt.
Pain's face contorted in pain.
"How do you know the interval between my Shinra Tensei?!"
But Pain quickly retaliated.
"Shinra Tensei!"
The five-second cooldown had ended, and Toki was blown backward by the immense repulsion force. He coughed, blood surging in his throat, but he remained focused.
At this point, Toki took the opportunity to retrieve a scroll. Before Pain could act further, Toki smeared some of Pain's blood onto the scroll and activated a jutsu.
"The Reanimation Jutsu!"
The scroll erupted with glowing paper fragments that swirled around Yagura, encasing him completely. Moments later, a figure began to take form—a young man who looked exactly like Yahiko.
Toki placed a control talisman on the back of Yahiko's head, stabilizing the jutsu. Yahiko's body became fully animated, and he blinked in confusion.
"Huh? Am I not dead?" Yahiko asked, looking around in confusion.
The sight of Yahiko left both Nagato (Tendo Pain) and Konan trembling. Konan's eyes filled with tears, while Nagato's face twisted with rage.
"How dare you!" Pain growled, his Rinnegan burning with fury. "You defile Yahiko's soul?!"
Toki smirked and raised his hands.
"Relax, it's just a friendly demonstration. I'm not here to fight you—I'm here to talk about your Akatsuki organization."

Meanwhile, in Konoha
In the Sarutobi Clan's compound, Sarutobi Asuma looked at his father, the Third Hokage, in shock.
"What?! Brother is dead?!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi looked aged and weary, a shadow of the powerful and confident leader he once was. The meteoric rise of the Uchiha clan under Toki's leadership had left him feeling helpless.
Hiruzen nodded solemnly.
"He died while carrying out a mission outside the village."
Asuma clenched his fists in disbelief.
"How could this happen…"
Hiruzen placed a hand on Asuma's shoulder and said gravely:
"I need you to step up now. I want you to take over the Urban Management Team."
Asuma blinked in shock.
"Me? At 16? Are you serious?"
Hiruzen nodded.
"You wanted to reform the Urban Management Team, didn't you? Now's your chance. I've also arranged for ANBU support to assist you. Do your best."
Asuma's doubt turned into determination, and he nodded firmly.
"Don't worry, Father. I'll make you proud!"
Asuma left in high spirits, eager to prove himself. Once he was gone, Hiruzen slumped in his chair, his eyes filled with disappointment and bitterness.
He clenched his fists and muttered to himself:
"Uchiha Toki… you are not Uchiha Madara. I won't let you undo everything I've worked for over decades. Konoha belongs to me. This is my legacy!"
…
A few days later, rumors began to circulate in Konoha that Orochimaru had been conducting experiments on the village's ninja, civilians, and even children.
Soon after, Sarutobi Hiruzen personally led a team to eradicate this cancer that had been exploiting his comrades for experiments.
Danzo was treated no differently.
Numerous black deeds of his surfaced during the investigation of the Root organization: framing the Senju Clan, involvement in the annihilation of the Uzumaki Clan, and leaking ANBU intelligence that drove Sakumo Hatake to commit suicide in shame. The shocking revelations sent chills throughout Konoha.
Faced with exposure, Danzo fled Konoha with the Shimura Clan under the cover of night.
Sarutobi Hiruzen, on the other hand, pulled the Sarutobi Clan out of Konoha, claiming he would not return until the traitor was apprehended.
When Sarutobi Asuma came to his senses, he realized he was the only Sarutobi left in Konoha.
When Uchiha Setsuna learned this, he was utterly stunned.
"Run away? They just ran away?"
A member of the Nara Clan, who had been summoned, nodded reluctantly.
"The clan leader said the Sarutobi Clan and the Shimura Clan likely won't return."
Uchiha Setsuna gritted his teeth. "This can't happen! They have half of Konoha's forbidden techniques and ninjutsu! We can't let them get away!"
The Nara member sighed, "It's not just ninjutsu. They took a significant number of stationed ninjas and civilians. And, worst of all, they took the Nine-Tails!"
Hiruzen's civilian-centric leadership had created an unshakable foundation of loyalty among the populace. Most of the civilians and ninjas supported his reforms and followed him unquestioningly, even abandoning their posts.
Had it not been for Toki's capture of the Two-Tails, the loyalty of even the Nara Clan might have wavered.
Setsuna muttered in frustration, "What does the clan leader want me to do now?"
The Nara replied, "The clan leader asks for Toki-sama's guidance."
Setsuna, exasperated, shouted, "How would I know where he is?"
Suddenly, a calm voice replied, "I'm right here."
---
Elsewhere, Toki stood amidst the Akatsuki members, facing Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato.
"So," Nagato spoke coldly, "what do you want to discuss?"
Toki smiled faintly. "I want to talk about nuclear peace in the world. I believe in the goals of the Akatsuki."
Yahiko's eyes lit up. "You want peace too? You're one of us, then!"
Nagato frowned. "The Akatsuki of today is not the same idealistic group as before. We've changed. Do you understand what that means?"
Toki chuckled, "Of course I understand. I fully support your plan to create deterrence through tailed beasts. Who wouldn't want peace through strength?"
Yahiko blinked, confused. "Tailed beasts? Deterrence? What are you talking about?"
Konan pursed her lips and whispered, "Since your death, Uchiha Madara appeared and convinced Nagato to collect tailed beasts and develop a super forbidden technique capable of obliterating entire villages. He believes fear will lead to peace."
Yahiko looked horrified. "Nagato! You can't be serious! This isn't our dream!"
Nagato's voice grew colder. "Our comrades are dead, Yahiko. Konoha and Hanzo killed them. This is the only way."
Toki raised a hand, interrupting, "Actually, it wasn't Konoha. It was Uchiha Madara. He manipulated events to ensure your downfall and Nagato's transformation."
Nagato froze. "Impossible!"
Toki shrugged. "Believe me or don't, but I can summon your fallen comrades for you to ask them directly."
Before Nagato could respond, a sudden disturbance erupted.
"Nagato!" Konan screamed, rushing to his side as his body collapsed. His chest had been pierced, and his Rinnegan was gone.
Toki frowned. "What just happened?"
Konan opened a hidden cave nearby, revealing Nagato's lifeless body inside.
"His Rinnegan… it's missing…"
Toki clicked his tongue, "Damn, someone beat us to it. That was quick."
Konan clenched her fists. "It must have been Uchiha Madara!"
Before she could rush out, Yahiko stopped her. "Konan, don't be reckless. We're not ready to fight him."
Toki nodded in agreement. "You'll need a proper strategy to handle someone like him. Fortunately, I'm here to help."
