Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Severely Injured Lori
There is no doubt that in today's world, not many people can refuse the recruitment of Umbrella Corporation, let alone a weak programmer with two children?
Lyon used the position of a D-level employee in the engineering department to recruit this professor from Georgia Tech, a high-level intellectual that ordinary people could not even dream of. His weekly salary was 1,500 contribution points, which was not much, but still much more than that of ordinary logistics staff.
With this newly joined university professor, Leon and the combat team continued to clear three villas, which well demonstrated the combat effectiveness and courage of the Umbrella Corporation fighters.
During this time, Amlin's face was not looking good. When Leon chatted with him, he found out that many of the zombies here were his neighbors when they were alive, and most of them were senior employees in nearby factories and companies.
From the university professor, Lyon learned that Atlanta is one of the top ten financial centers in the United States, known as the "New Capital of the South", with a diversified economy. Hundreds of large companies are headquartered here, including Coca-Cola, Home Depot, Delta Airlines, UPS, Holiday Inn, and BellSouth. 430 of the 500 largest companies in the United States have established branches in Atlanta.
It is also a famous historical city, cultural capital, and tourist capital of America, with many museums and large parks.
Obviously, the professor knew Atlanta very well, had worked here for many years, enjoyed a high social status, knew a lot of intelligence that he didn't know, and possessed rare skills.
Leon was glad that he had really found a treasure. If he had come a few days later, he would probably have only found three poor zombies lurking in the basement.
After clearing 20 villas in one afternoon, it was 5 pm. Leon had no intention of taking risks in the dark, so he and his teammates returned to the base with Professor Amlin's family and four trucks full of supplies.
After entering the base, Leon disbanded the team and asked them to hand over the supplies.
The young secretary Amy appeared out of nowhere, walked quickly to Leon, and helped him take off his equipment with skillful movements.
The girl has a beautiful smile and a sweet voice.
"Boss, you're back."
Leon nodded, pointed at Professor Amlin's family, and introduced:
"This is Professor Amlin and his two children. They are newly joined D-level employees in the engineering department, senior electronic engineers, senior software programmers, and university professors."
"This is Ms. Amy, my personal assistant, who is currently responsible for managing most of the affairs in the company."
Amy smiled and nodded politely to Professor Amlin, saying:
"Welcome to Umbrella Corporation, Professor Amlin."
Amnin smiled weakly and said:
"Hello, Miss Amy, it is my honor to join such a company that strives for all mankind."
After the two exchanged a few pleasantries, Leon instructed Amy:
"Take Professor Amlin and his family to go through the employment formalities and help them arrange accommodation. You can advance him two weeks' salary."
"I understand, boss."
After Leon gave Amy his instructions, he turned to Amulin and said:
"Professor, there are hot showers here, plenty of food, and clean clothes. You and your children should have a good rest tonight."
"Tomorrow, I will arrange time to have a good chat with you and arrange your work here."
Amlin embraced his child, bowed deeply to Leon, and said:
"Thank you, Mr. Custer, for saving me and my family. I will always remember this kindness in my heart. May God bless you."

At 2 o'clock in the morning, Leon was sleeping soundly with Amy's smooth and delicate body in his arms, when suddenly there was a squeaking sound from the intercom on the bedside table.
"Boss, boss, are you there?"
"This is Glenn, this is Glenn."
"We are 10 minutes away from the base, and we need your help with an urgent matter."
There were still some traces of tears on Amy's face, and it seemed that the noise in the intercom disturbed her sleep. She shrank on Leon's chest like a frightened little animal, and then she opened her sleepy eyes in a daze.
Leon kissed her gently on the forehead and pulled the high-grade velvet quilt over her fair skin.
"I have something to do, you go to bed first."
Amy pulled the quilt shyly, as if she remembered the madness of last night. She nodded meekly but a little tiredly, and said in a hoarse voice:
"Okay, boss, please take care of yourself and go to bed early."
Leon put on a nightgown, picked up the intercom on the bedside, walked out of the bedroom, and answered:
"This is Leon Custer, Glenn, what's going on over there?"
Glenn's voice sounded anxious and tired.
"I'm sorry, boss, to wake you up so late. We have a Ms. Lori here who has suffered a serious trauma and needs urgent treatment."
"You are the only doctor I know of right now, so I drove Ms. Lori over from the quarry overnight."
Leon's voice was silent for more than ten seconds before he continued:
"What kind of trauma did this lady suffer?"
"Boss, Ms. Lori, fell from a height of about ten meters while collecting supplies in the city and passed out. A corrosive liquid splashed on her face, causing quite serious burns. She is still unconscious until now."
"Officer Sean was very anxious. He took Carl and me with him and the four of us to our base overnight."
"Darryl will come over tomorrow with the rest of the camp."
"We will be there in seven or eight minutes, please be ready."
Leon was silent for a few seconds, then replied calmly:
"Just come over from the underground parking lot. I'll be waiting for you at Clinic No. 1."
"Okay, boss."
"Thank you, Mr. Custer." At the end of the conversation, Sean's hoarse voice came from the intercom.
Ten minutes later, Leon saw Sean rushing in with Lori in his arms in the operating room of Clinic No. 1, and Carl crying on Glenn's lap.
Lori's eyes were closed, her hair was disheveled, and there were obvious burn marks on her face.
Sean's expression was very complicated, showing nervousness, anxiety, guilt and regret.
Leon asked Sean to lay Lori flat on the bed, and he examined her carefully with a stethoscope.
It was exactly as Glenn described, with extensive chemical burns on his face, neck, and chest, a mild concussion on his brain, and fractures in his limbs and joints.
The most serious injury is to the eyeballs, where most of the nerves have been destroyed by the chemical liquid. They are completely damaged and cannot be repaired.
In other words, even if Lori's injuries were cured, she would still be blind and disfigured.
After getting this result, Lyon's heart was a little shaken. The reason why this happened was largely due to the butterfly effect caused by him.
It wasn't a feeling of guilt or anything like that, but a strange sense of substitution. Everything he did would change the fate of the world, and it would no longer be a stereotyped image of the past.
Adhering to his duties as a doctor, Leon called Sean and Carl aside and told them truthfully about Lori's current condition and the consequences of treatment.
Although Sean's face was full of pain and he looked very regretful and guilty, he still gritted his teeth and asked Leon to treat Lori.
