Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Isla De Muerta Part I
(Present Day-Aboard the Interceptor)
There was a crazy storm of rain and thunder as the new crew of the Interceptor worked to keep the ship running smooth as they were battered by huge waves. Will and Gibbs had just recovered from being blasted across the deck by a huge wave when Will looked over at Jack at the helm with his compass and then at Gibbs.
"How are we supposed to find an island that nobody knows where it is with a compass that doesn't work?" Will shouted toward Gibbs to be heard over the storm.
"Aye the compass doesn't point North, but we're not trying to find North are we?" Gibbs replied with a grin.
Gibbs then made his way through the stormy deck to the helm to speak with Jack.
"Cap'n, we should drop canvas!" Gibbs shouted to Jack over the storm.
"She can hold a little longer Jack replied with a big smile.
"I say Cap'n, what's in your head what's got you in such a frightfully good mood!?" Gibbs asked.
"We're catching up!" Jack said speaking about catching up to Barbosa.
I was looking forward to them reaching us soon as the sooner the events at Isla de Mureta are handled, the sooner I can get back to my ship and make my own name for myself as a Captain.
...
(Isla De Muerta)
We had just docked at Isla De Muerta and Elizabeth was looking out the window of the cabin at the island when a few pirates came into the room.
It was Pintel and some other pirates that I never bothered to remember the names of.
"Time to go poppet." Pintel said as they took Elizabeth to the deck where Barbossa placed the medallion on her neck and we began our trek to the treasure room where Cortez' chest awaited.
Honestly, Jack was only Captain of the Black Pearl for 2 years before the mutiny so I couldn't remember a time before Barbossa was Captain and before we were cursed. I knew that even though I paid the blood sacrifice, I'd still keep my curse when it was ultimately broken by Jack and Will.
I also found a way to keep people from knowing I was still a cursed pirate, it is a stupidly obvious way, but still. It was essentially me wearing a hood that covered my face so it would only show a shadow whilst under the moon and as my clothes already left no gaps where my skin could be seen, as long as I kept my overcoat and gloves on. And as long as I wasn't dumb, I would be fine to stay with my curse for the future until such a time that I felt like revealing I still had it.
We slowly walked with Elizabeth on the island as we made our way to where the chest of Cortez was located. During the journey, I convinced the pirates guarding Elizabeth to leave her to me. As we walked I talked with her.
"When the truth is revealed, find a way to escape. I do not know if the ritual will commence tonight or not, but be prepared nonetheless." I explained to which she nodded.
"I am sorry for this Y'know. As soon as this curse is ended, I plan to leave Barbossa's crew and become a Captain of my own ship. Who knows, you may hear of Captain Dark in the future." I continued before we finally arrived in the chamber and I let her be watched by the other pirates again as I waited for the moment when Jack would show up.
Barbossa stood atop a mound of treasure right behind the chest of Cortez as he gave a speech.
"Gentleman the time has come!" Barbossa said.
"YAA!!"
"YAA!!"
"YAA!!" We all cheered in response.
"Our salvation is nigh!" Barbossa continued.
"YAA!!" We all cheered.
"Our torment is near an end!" Barbossa continued.
"YAA!!" We all cheered.
"For 10 years we have been tested and tried, and each man here has proved there mettle a hundred times over!(cue the cheers) And a hundred times again!" Barbossa continued. (Cue more cheers)
"Suffered I have" Rengetti shouted in response his voice quivering slightly.
"Punished we were, the lot of us, disproportionate to our crime!" Barbossa continued stressing the last words.
*Cheers of agreement*
"Here it is!" Barbossa said as he slid his foot against the lid of the chest.
*scratch*
*THUD*
*Clink*
The lid of the stone chest scratched against the stone surface of the chest before it landed with a heavy thud on the mound of treasure.
"The cursed treasure of Cortez himself." Barbossa continued as he slid his fingers across the top of the gold inside the chest.
"Every last piece that went astray we have returned. Save for this!" Barbossa said as he pointed to the medallion that Elizabeth was wearing.
Barbossa continued to give his speech but I tuned him out in lieu of looking around for Jack and Will, now I was at the back of the group for this exact reason. I couldn't find them but I did hear a bunch of coins falling down from atop a small rocky area so I knew they were here as I recognized their hiding spot from the movie. By the time I started paying attention again, Barbossa seemed almost ready to get the blood from Elizabeth.
"Who among us has paid the blood sacrifice owed to the heathen gods?" Barbossa asked.
*Cheers in acceptance*
"And whose blood must yet be paid?" He asked.
*HERS!* We all cheered.
"Y'know the first thing I'm going to do once the curse is lifted?" Barbossa asked as the pirates laughed in response.
"Eat a whole bushel of apples." He said to Elizabeth.
The pirates began to chant as Barbossa was getting ready to cut Elizabeth to get her blood for the sacrifice.
"BLOOD!"
"BLOOD!"
"BLOOD!"
"BLOOD!"
"BLOOD!"
The events then followed what was shown in the movie and Barbossa backhanded Elizabeth in anger and she fell from the mound of coins and was knocked unconscious. While this was happening I slowly made my way through the crowd to the front. As the other pirates began to argue with Pintel and Rengetti.
"You two!?! You brought us the wrong person!" Bo'sun (Barbossa's original first mate in the movie) said.
"No! She had the medallion. She's the proper age." Pintel started to explain.
"She said her name was Turner. You heard her. I think she lied to us." Rengetti added.
"You brought us ere for nothing!" Twigg shouted toward Barbossa.
"I won't take question or no second-guesses from the likes of you, Twigg!" Barbossa replied angrily.
"Who's to blame him? Every decision you have made has led us from bad to worse!" A pirate added.
"It was you who sent Bootstrap to the depths!" Another pirate added.
*Cheers of agreement*
"And it was you who brought here in the first place!" Bo'sun said as he unsheathed his sword and went towards Barbossa, the other pirates followed his lead.
Before Bo'sun got too close he was interrupted with two swords, one to his throat, and the other his heart.
"Take one more step, see what happens." I said calmly as I stood between Barbossa and the rest of the crew.
The crew didn't say anything at first so I continued.
"We already know that out of us all, I am the best swordsmen and have fought more than 5 of you at a time easily. While you may not be able to die, having your head cut off still hurts." I threatened.
"I'll be fine!" Bo'sun stated as he started to get closer.
The sword that was at his heart went lower to below his waist.
"I wasn't talking about that head." I replied as I made a quick cut on his pants.
