Chapter423-The Special Newspaper
High above in the heavens, the divine power belonging to the lineage of the Old Gods was condensing, taking form and shape until it gradually crystallized into a divine seat.
Only a few breaths later, that seat of divinity descended upon Karami.
Karami's expression changed at once. On his face flickered a strange mixture of hesitation and greed. His gaze drifted uncontrollably toward his companions, his eyes filled with a conflicted desire.
But what he did not realize was that every subtle change in his emotions, every spark of thought within his heart, had long been under Daniel's scrutiny.
Within the all-encompassing Psychic Perception, Karami's mind was as transparent as glass. No secrets, no hidden impulses could escape Daniel's awareness.
Daniel frowned slightly, a shadow of thought flashing across his features.
It was clear to him now: Karami's spirit had already been tainted, distorted by the pollution emanating from that Old God's divine seat.
With a tentative mindset, Daniel raised his hand and released a beam of purifying light.
At once, a holy brilliance descended upon Karami's head. Pure cleansing radiance surged into his very soul, burning away the contamination that lurked within.
Karami's eyes cleared instantly. His dazed expression sharpened into clarity as if he had awoken from a nightmarish dream.
Daniel, meanwhile, had reached a firm judgment in his heart.
Even if one gained divine power, the corruption of the Old God lineage's divine seats could not be avoided. Yet purification magic could indeed dispel it.
Back in the Backworld, Daniel's many incarnations were busily engaged in their respective tasks.
Suddenly, a new thought stirred within him, and he turned to Kate, speaking directly into her mind.
"Kate, do you know if a space like this exists within the Backworld?"
As he spoke, he shared with her the images he had just witnessed through Kartora. Of course, the shared vision had been carefully edited—Daniel retained the depiction of the strange landscape, but deliberately removed any trace of the gods themselves.
Kate studied the vision carefully. The moment she absorbed its essence, she could feel the surging temporal power hidden within.
"This space… it seems littered with fragments of time," she said softly.
"That is an extremely chaotic existence. I have heard of it, though I have never ventured there myself. Within the domain of Luck Goddess Luke, there is a place known as the Clock Tower of Time. Her Grace once said that the scenes within resemble exactly what you describe."
As she explained, Kate opened a shimmering portal before them.
Daniel stepped forward without hesitation, following her through.
"We should arrive there in roughly half an hour," Kate remarked as they emerged. She was just about to continue onward when she suddenly felt Daniel's hand press lightly against her shoulder.
The next instant, her vision blurred.
When her surroundings stabilized again, Kate's face froze, as if she had seen a ghost.
Because in the blink of an eye, she had arrived directly at the Time Clock Tower.
All the while, Daniel had also gathered the scattered corpses of numerous Fake Gods, storing them neatly within his spatial backpack.
Just moments before, he had activated Time Stream, skipping past half an hour of travel in an instant.
Yet this time, unlike before, he had not encountered the puppet Kartora within the river of time. From this, Daniel deduced that Kartora's appearance was not guaranteed; one would not meet him every time Time Stream was invoked.
Kate's shock lingered in her expression. Milla, however, looked entirely unfazed. She had clearly grown used to such feats.
Patting Kate gently on the shoulder, she spoke in a playful tone.
"Well? Kate, did you ever imagine Daniel's mastery of time and space could be this overwhelming? Ha! To leap here instantly like this… it defies every theorem of space itself!"
She chuckled, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"To be honest, even now I don't know how Daniel manages it."
Upon reaching the Time Clock Tower, Daniel extended his mind power outward, unfurling it like a vast net to cover the entirety of the nearby city.
"City of Luck!"
This was no ordinary settlement—it lay deep within the Backworld, operating under its own unique set of laws and rules.
Within its walls resided an astonishing number of powerful beings: demigod ranks numbering nearly one hundred thousand.
What surprised Daniel most was that these demigods were not aligned with the Old Gods, but rather with the pantheon of the modern deities.
Sensing his doubt, Kate quickly explained.
"This city was specially built by Her Grace Luke, the Goddess of Luck. It was designed as a sanctuary for her followers. Within the City of Luck, all living beings are completely immune to the corruption of the Old Gods.
But this immunity holds only so long as they remain within the city. If they leave before stabilizing their divine seats, they will still be assimilated into the Old God system."
Daniel nodded. His mind power had already detected the truth—encircling the entire city was a colossal protective barrier. That shield was clearly the source of the city's safety, warding off external corruption.
After a moment of thought, Daniel said aloud:
"If we establish a portal here that connects directly to the Land of Origin, this could become an excellent strategic base."
His plan was simple: use the City of Luck as a stronghold for humanity, a foundation from which they could gradually explore and expand into the Backworld's territories.
Yet there was still an unknown question gnawing at him. What would happen if humans, after acquiring Old God divine seats and purifying their corruption, continued their ascension into the demigod ranks? Would the results be stable… or something entirely unforeseen?
There was no easy way to answer this now. Such changes could only be observed over time.
At the very least, Daniel could be certain that in the demigod stage, humans could claim Old God divine seats without suffering negative consequences—provided they had the purification to counteract the corruption.
Beyond this practical concern, another bold idea had begun to take root in Daniel's mind.
What if he established an Infinite Divine Temple within the Backworld itself?
If the creatures of this realm began to worship the Infinite Divine Temple, would that not mean he could indirectly draw upon the power of the Old Gods themselves?
His thoughts surged with possibility. Without hesitation, he planted a new Tree of Faith in the Backworld.
At once, countless eyes turned toward the City of Luck.
With Daniel's current level of power, the Tree of Faith could only influence Fake God-level beings and those below. Still, he was not concerned about secrecy. His presence in the Backworld was already known far and wide. The gods had long since taken notice of him.
So why hide? Better to act boldly, with confidence and grandeur.
Indeed, many of the Old Gods gazed upon the newly sprouted Tree of Faith with fervor in their eyes. A strange compulsion tugged at their spirits, as though something within the tree called to them, urging them toward pilgrimage.
And then, at that very moment, Daniel noticed something unusual beneath his feet.
A newspaper.
It had appeared without warning, resting on the ground as though it had always been there, yet also as though it had materialized from thin air.
Moments before, Daniel had not seen it at all—yet now it was unmistakably present, glaringly obvious.
Given his current level of perception, it was impossible for him to overlook such a conspicuous object. That meant only one thing: this was no ordinary paper.
Could it be… some kind of sign? Some deliberate hint left for him?
So thinking, Daniel bent down and picked it up.
The language printed on the newspaper struck him immediately with familiarity.
It was none other than the language invented long ago by Goddess Luke herself, back when she had been idly amusing herself within the old castle.
And on that strange paper, bold letters proclaimed:
"Congratulations, fortunate human. You have obtained the authority of the City of Luck's Lord."
"I have prepared a gift for you. You will find it stored in the warehouse."
