Chapter 321: 321 Care
Tan Shaoting was a bit worried, "Is the food not to your taste, Yuanyuan? You tell me what you'd like to eat, and I'll make it."
"No, it's just that I'm used to having something light in the morning. It's alright, I'll eat when I get hungry later."
It's just that I'm not used to it, but being cared for like this still warms my heart.
In fact, Su Yuanyuan is a woman who's really easy to satisfy.
The little girl ate till she was full, always smiling.
Su Yuanyuan felt that this child must be optimistic because she's living with Zhao Yanli. That's really good. In life, no matter how you live it, even if there are difficult and narrowing things, facing them optimistically is better than with a frown.
Tan Shaoting tidied up the house, "Yuanyuan, would you like to take a stroll outside?"
"Auntie, I want to go."
Su Yuanyuan nodded with a smile, "Alright, let's go for a walk and inform the Li Family that the workers will be staying at their place today."
In fact, Su Yuanyuan had considered this matter, thinking that since Tan Shaoting had returned, the workers could stay at her place, but it really wasn't convenient with her frequent bathroom trips.
In the end, she decided to ask the Li Family, and if it was inconvenient for them, then the workers could stay at her place.
The three of them strolled leisurely along the fields, and the little girl picked a wildflower and ran to Su Yuanyuan, "Auntie, here you go."
Su Yuanyuan accepted it with a smile, "Thank you, Hai Yan."
Tan Shaoting suddenly felt a twinge of emotion, realizing he had never given his wife flowers before, which made him feel quite inadequate.
The Li Family wasn't harvesting wheat today but was tidying up their farming tools, seemingly planning to start harvesting in a few days.
"Mr. Li."
Li Hongxiang looked at the three who had come in and smiled, "Yuanyuan, Xiao Tan, you're back? You returned at just the right time."
Tan Shaoting was sincerely grateful to the Li Family and the Zhao Family and was also willing to associate with them.
"Yes, thank you, Mr. Li, for looking after Yuanyuan."
"It's nothing, I really haven't done much."
Hai Yan smiled and ran to Li Liyun's side, grasping her hand.
"Mr. Li, when do you plan to start harvesting wheat?"
"Tomorrow, I saw Xiao Li and the others started today."
"Yes. Mr. Li, I plan to start harvesting tomorrow too. The workers will still need to stay here; will there be any inconvenience?"
"No problem at all. Xiao Yun can stay at the Zhao's for a few days. It's no inconvenience. Don't worry about it."
This girl is too sensitive, cautious about everything.
"Alright. Director Feng is expected to bring his team over today."
"Got it. Don't worry, everything's arranged."
Su Yuanyuan couldn't stand for long, so after a few words, they left.
At home, the little girl played by herself in the yard. Tan Shaoting helped Su Yuanyuan lie down. Soon after watching her fall asleep, he went out to cook.
Since the temperature was high, the dough had already risen, so he started preparing the meal.
If his wife were awake, he really wouldn't have had time to cook.
He fried ten eggs, added a lot of lard, making it hard not to taste good.
His cabbage buns didn't look very nice, but bit by bit he was getting the hang of it.
There were two big stacks of vegetable buns. Below, sorghum porridge simmered.
Su Yuanyuan was enticed awake by the aroma of chives.
At this moment, Tan Shaoting was taking the food off the stove, and upon hearing sounds from inside, he hurried into the room.
The little girl also rushed in following him, having been circling around Tan Shaoting like a little tail.
"It's fine, I'm just going to the bathroom, and I'll eat the buns afterward. They smell pretty good."
Tan Shaoting helped Su Yuanyuan down and, after watching her go out, hurried to set the table. It was already past ten o'clock, so having a meal now was alright.
The sorghum porridge was left to cool on the side. He quickly went out to stir-fry some bok choy.
After Su Yuanyuan came back and washed her hands, she sat down to eat.
"This is quite tasty."
"As long as you like it, tomorrow I'll take out some meat. I find the buns quite convenient."
"Haha, as long as you're willing to make them."
"No problem, the workers can either be paid with food or money."
Su Yuanyuan had no objections, whatever his arrangements were, was fine by her.
After the three finished eating, Tan Shaoting packed some buns to take to the Zhao sisters for their meal.
The little girl chatted with Su Yuanyuan, and they got along quite well.
Meanwhile, Tan Shaoting reached the fields, handed them the buns, said something, then left.
The two sisters sat down to drink water and eat, truly hungry, having had breakfast around three in the morning.
Seeing the plump buns, they were quite pleased.
"I didn't know Tan Shaoting had this skill?" Zhao Yanli devoured hers quickly, finishing a bun in just a few bites.
"I think they taste pretty good too," Zhao Yanping said with a smile.
"Now we don't have to worry about him not being able to take care of Yuanyuan," Zhao Yanli felt reassured.
After eating their fill, the sisters didn't rest. They harnessed the vehicle and started hauling the wheat back, so it would dry faster in the threshing yard.
Feng Baoshan arrived only in the late afternoon, bringing back eight people.
Su Yuanyuan was thrilled, as this would greatly speed things up.
If things went smoothly on their side, Li Hongxiang would likely hire workers as well.
He's someone who knows how to enjoy life and definitely doesn't scrimp on things that can be solved with money.
Feng Baoshan dropped off the people and was ready to leave, as it was time to start harvesting wheat at his place too.
"Director Feng, thank you so much."
Feng Baoshan waved his hand, "No trouble at all. Oh, and I'll send someone over to transport the wheat."
This laid to rest a big concern for the couple. Feng Baoshan had indeed fought this through, raising the question in meetings about where the fertilizer and pesticides they used came from.
Now no one had any objections, though Feng Baoshan docked quite a bit for moisture, which was fair enough, allowing any dissatisfied voices to quiet down.
In fact, when it comes to moisture, even after deductions, it often amounts to just a thousand or so pounds difference, which wasn't much of an issue for the couple.
Tan Shaoting called everyone to have some water.
"Sorry, everyone, originally I planned to provide meals, but I really don't have the time. So, I'll add fifty cents a day per person and also give you grain. How about you cook for yourselves?"
Those who came to work were generally from families not well-off. Getting an extra fifty cents a day along with grain, who would refuse?
So Tan Shaoting provided them with a sack of cornmeal, a sack of flour, several jins of cottonseed oil, and told them to eat the winter melon as they pleased.
The eight of them were satisfied now, as even though there were no disasters, getting enough to eat wasn't easy. Seeing the amount of grain and flour given, they were even more content, each determined to work diligently. The promise of more work with the corn and cotton fields after the wheat was motivating.
Actually, they all hoped to buy some grain and cotton to take home.
