Chapter 279: 279 Good Luck
Only after they left did Yuanyuan feel at ease, and she could finally relax once she got on the train, feeling a bit dazed.
This time, she still didn't have a sleeper ticket, but there weren't too many people, so she could use a whole row to herself, which meant she could lie down at night. However, the temperature was usual, and she was really afraid to sleep for fear of getting sick.
It took three days to get to M City; the time wasn't too long, so she could manage.
There weren't many people boarding during the day, so Su Yuanyuan directly placed her luggage on the seat. With plenty of empty seats, no one came over to sit together.
This was the most relaxing train journey yet. This time she didn't go to the dining car to eat, mainly because there was no one to watch her luggage.
After she got off the train, she still immediately went to buy a train ticket.
This time it was a sleeper ticket, but the train would only depart after two days. So, she decided to take her luggage to a hotel. Why suffer unnecessarily?
These two days, she wandered around the city but didn't gain much.
However, she found some books at a junkyard, all to pass the time on the train.
Through the cotton bug incident, she realized the wisdom of the ancestors was beyond words.
So now she appreciated ancient books even more.
Even though she didn't really understand them, she comforted herself, saying that even if they weren't real ancient books, they wouldn't be too bad.
"Girl, you'd better keep these books safe."
"Thank you, sir, I know. It was after reading a formula in an ancient book that I managed to save this year's cotton crop. So I thought of reading more, maybe I could find even better formulas."
The gatekeeper sighed and said nothing more.
Once she got on the train, Su Yuanyuan started her days of reading.
Now, even though she couldn't claim to have a photographic memory, she was close enough.
Every day she went to the dining car to eat, which allowed her to feel the crowd and hear some gossip, which was quite interesting.
Actually, she felt quite conflicted, enjoying being alone in a carriage, yet feeling lonely.
Since she was always a girl traveling alone, this day she had just gotten a black steamed bun and a bowl of dumpling soup and was looking for a table.
"Comrade, you can sit here." The speaker was a young guy, and there were two other young men at the table.
It was really the peak mealtime; every table was full, so Su Yuanyuan smiled, nodded, and sat down directly.
In fact, she didn't really think much of it; after all, on trains, men and women sat mixed together.
The three male comrades at the table seemed a bit excited.
Su Yuanyuan was now about 1.6 meters tall. Her skin was quite good. Although she had tanned quite a bit after a year of farm work, she was still a standout in a crowd.
Plus, her cultivation gave her a special aura.
Sitting down with her head down, she ate; the steamed bun had a nice wheat aroma, but the texture was a bit rough. Still, it was better than cornmeal.
Though the disaster years had passed, the supply was still not very good due to economic reasons. Having steamed buns to eat was already quite nice.
With her head down eating, she could feel the three people's occasional gazes.
Su Yuanyuan had no intention of making friends on the train, so she didn't look up and just focused on her meal.
She quickly finished a bun and a serving of soup. Picking up her lunchbox, she nodded politely and intended to leave.
"Comrade, hold on. May I ask, where are you headed?"
Knowing it's presumptuous, yet asking? "To F City."
"Us too, I wonder what brings you to F City, comrade? Don't be nervous; we're from F City."
This made Su Yuanyuan sit back down; maybe getting pesticides could be easier.
"Are you locals from F City?"
All three young guys nodded, "Yes, we are."
"Comrade, we know you're not from F City. Can you tell us why you're going there?"
Su Yuanyuan smiled, "There's nothing I can't say. I'm looking for pesticides, insecticides, herbicides.
I work on a farm, and because cotton pests were severe this year, we missed out on getting enough pesticides. But we'll plant cotton again next year, so I'm preparing during this farm off-season.
But I'm also uncertain if the pesticide factory will accept our approvals, even though we have them from our area."
The three young men exchanged looks. One of them spoke, "Comrade, my name is Peng Haishan, and I'm in sales at the pesticide factory."
This made Su Yuanyuan smile; Tan Shaoting always said she was blessed by the heavens, and indeed, whatever came her way seemed very simple.
Wasn't it just that she was worried about how to handle the pesticide factory? And here it was, sorted out.
"Comrade, does the pesticide factory have stock now? And would they recognize the approvals I brought?"
"Hello, comrade, I'm Cao Boyang, responsible for raw material procurement at the pesticide factory.
We're returning with a large batch of raw materials.
As for the stock you asked about, there probably isn't any, but production can be very fast."
"Yes, I'm Shen Shao Hong from the supply and sales department.
Regarding the approvals you mentioned, as long as they have your area's stamp, it should be fine."
Su Yuanyuan directly took the approvals out of her shoulder bag and opened them on the table.
"Comrade, we have the city's stamp."
"Then that's fine. Wow, the amount you need is massive; it might be hard to handle." Peng Haishan sighed looking at the quantities.
"That's unavoidable; our farm has such a large area, so the pesticide needs are naturally high."
"We'll figure something out for you when the time comes."
Su Yuanyuan smiled, "Thank you, comrades. I'm Su Yuanyuan from the Second Farm. Please help us; this year, our farm's cotton hardly produced, and even corn had bugs in it, though fortunately, the corn had already filled out, or yields would've dropped too."
"Definitely, definitely.
Xiao Su, did you come all alone for such an important task?"
Su Yuanyuan chuckled and nodded, "Yes, the farm work is too much. Besides, we're also saving on travel expenses."
She felt her reasoning was quite noble.
But looking at the expressions of the three, they seemed different. They looked at her in amazement.
What's so shocking? Feng Baoshan definitely had this idea; it might not be the main one, but he definitely had it.
"Xiao Su, we don't mean to belittle female comrades, but isn't it unsafe for a girl like you to travel alone?"
"Not really, I didn't go anywhere, just stayed on the train, and it was fine."
By this time, the three also finished eating. "Xiao Su, are you in a sleeper? If not, would you like to join our carriage? We have an extra bunk," Peng Haishan asked.
