Chapter 232: 232 method
"Then, sir, please wait for me. If I don't have the ability to get you out, I will also arrange for the two children. But you have to give me some token, so I can make the children trust me."
"Just tell them that their mom and dad are in X City, they will believe you."
Yuanyuan nodded, "I'll leave now, I'll handle you first."
"No, you take care of the children first."
Yuanyuan nodded, "Tomorrow I'll have them write a letter to you and bring it over."
At this, Li Hongxiang smiled. As long as his grandchildren are safe, what does it matter if he can't survive? His only regret is not being able to watch them grow up. These twins are his pride.
Yuanyuan left the room and quietly slipped away.
God bless. No one noticed.
After she got out, she went straight to Old Li's house, taking a roundabout route to jump in from the back. Such a height really wasn't an issue for her.
She stood by the flower bed without touching the secret entrance and collected all the items.
Then she hurried away. Once outside, she sought out information about the village's location and jogged there.
An hour later, she found the twins, who were living here by themselves. They were terrified when they saw Yuanyuan suddenly appear.
Their grandfather had sent them here more than a year ago and warned them not to mention knowing him.
"Li Shaoguang, Li Liyun?"
At this, the two were even more frightened. "Who are you? You've got the wrong people."
Yuanyuan smiled and recounted what Li Hongxiang had said. She understood the old man's message: to tell Yuanyuan about his son's and daughter-in-law's situation outside was his way of asking her to send news if the children or he no longer could.
After hearing Yuanyuan's words, the two children burst into tears.
Li Liyun suddenly grabbed Yuanyuan's clothes, "How is my grandpa?"
"Not very well. I've come to see you, and I'll find a way to rescue him when I go back. If possible, you three can leave here together. If not, you must listen to your grandpa and leave with me obediently; I'll arrange for both of you."
Actually, Yuanyuan was also worried, not knowing where to place the two. A farm? Then she wouldn't have her own space, making living comfortably later unlikely.
After all, they're just ten years old. Having them labor alone is unrealistic, though they would live separately.
"Please, you must save my grandpa."
The two children, eyes filled with tears, looked at Yuanyuan expectantly.
"I will, don't worry. Don't leave here. Just wait for me. I reckon they don't know about this place."
"Hmm, we'll be obedient and stay here waiting for you."
Yuanyuan pulled out a pack of snacks from her bag and left.
On her way back, she worried about how to rescue Li Hongxiang.
Suddenly, Yuanyuan thought of something she had learned about during history lessons in her past life: exile. How could she make Li Hongxiang be exiled?
With Zhang Hongxi around, he certainly wouldn't let Li Hongxiang go, as everyone knew he had many valuable things.
In three days, they would make their shipment. What if they encountered problems? They wouldn't spare Zhang Hongxi, would they?
If he fell out of power, things would be easier.
Yuanyuan figured it out, sneaked back in, and found Li Hongxiang's place, carefully entering.
"Sir, the two of them are doing very well, I have already told them.
Also, I came up with a plan to make Zhang Hongxi fall out of favor. Then I'll find a way to have you exiled to the farm I am at, where I can take care of you for a few years."
Li Hongxiang nodded. This young lady had arranged things very well; this was the best possible outcome.
"Okay."
"I hope you can hold on for a few more days, sir."
Li Hongxiang smiled, "I will definitely hang on. There's hope now. Thank you."
"Payment made on both sides."
Yuanyuan left and returned to the hostel. She still needed to deliver some winter melon in the evening.
She thought it would be great if she could stay next door to the Zhang Family.
At this thought, she couldn't stay still any longer and headed straight to the Zhang Family's. She had packed some cornmeal in her bag, about five pounds or so.
It was getting-off-work time, and both households had people home. Yuanyuan used Divine Sense to check and saw that one house was occupied by an old couple.
She knocked on the door.
"Comrade, who are you looking for?"
"Auntie, could I stay a few days at your place? I was staying at a hostel, but this morning I was being watched by those people. I'm afraid to stay at the hostel.
Auntie, here's my introduction letter. I came out to purchase grain seeds for the farm, so I can't leave immediately. Could I join you here for a few days?
I won't stay free; here's my lodging fee: a pound of cornmeal per day. This is five pounds. Auntie, does this sound okay?"
In order to gain trust, Yuanyuan removed her scarf and mask.
The elderly couple worked on the street and, seeing how Yuanyuan looked and the cornmeal she brought, nodded.
"Alright, but we're low on coal briquettes. It won't be as warm as the hostel."
"No problem. I'll prepare the coal myself." Yuanyuan explained what happened that morning.
"Thank you, auntie, you're truly kind."
Being next to the Zhang Family was also advantageous for monitoring them. She already knew they kept everything at home.
Yuanyuan thought, let them enjoy their illusion for now; by the day of loading, they would have nothing left.
However, Yuanyuan felt like she was stealing.
She comforted herself, though, planning to set those things aside until policies were favorable and then donate them. This would prevent ancestral treasures from leaking out. If she could trace and find the foreign goods, she would reclaim them all, leaving nothing behind.
"Dear, just move in, would you like us to help you get things from the hostel?"
"Auntie, I don't have much stuff, I'll just check out now and get my things."
This was done successfully, putting Yuanyuan at peace.
She returned to the hostel to check out. Although they charged for the full day's lodging, Yuanyuan didn't mind.
Leaving the hostel, she carried bundled bedding along with a leather bag containing toiletries and a change of clothes.
She only set down a bag of coal briquettes in front of their door, more would come if needed; she wouldn't suffer, after all.
She knocked, and the couple let her in.
They had already lit the fire inside, but it was still very cold, inevitably so.
"Girl, you can call us Uncle Zhang and Aunt Zhang."
Yuanyuan chatted with the couple for a while before entering the room. Honestly, there was just an iron stove inside.
