Reborn With a Magic System

Chapter 53 – Dungeon Cleared

"You think he wants to recruit me?" Damion asked stunned.

"Yes. You are quite talented, and if it wasn't for Ms. Teft, I think he might have already approached you with the idea."

Arica's words made Damion recall a few days ago, after his second interview with Justiciar Mathis about the Falks Guild, that the knight had joked about recruiting him into the Order. Damion had just brushed off the idea, but thinking back, perhaps Justiciar Mathis had been probing his interest.

Before Damion could ponder on the possibility further, the graveyard's chapel burst open. The dungeon's guardian had appeared, which meant while they had been talking, Justiciar Mathis had finished off all the champions.

All of the Demonic Beasts in the graveyard dungeon had been skeletons so far. However, the guardian appeared to be a withered old man. He was wearing a tattered cloak and carrying a knobby staff. From what Damion could see of the guardian's features, the Demonic Beast's skin was almost shrunken, like the man was dehydrated. Damion could not be sure, since the Demonic Beast's cloak covered its body, but Damion guessed the creature was quite thin, almost like his body was drying up or being sucked dry.

"The lich guardian. How lucky for Justiciar Mathis," Arica commented and clicked her tongue.

"What do you mean? Isn't the guardian always the same?" Damion asked.

"While the layout of a dungeon doesn't change, there is always some variations to the strength of the Demonic Beasts inside. The rank of the guardian doesn't change. But all the other Demonic Beasts inside can range in rank from F to the rank of the guardian, though usually they fall about in the middle, with a few outliers, like the champions."

"I know all that," Damion said. "What about the guardian, it can't change in rank, but it can change?"

"Yes. There are usually three or four different types of guardians that pop up in any given dungeon. And when you enter, the guardian can be any one of those. Usually, in this dungeon the lower-level beasts are all skeletons, like we had today. Sometimes though you get zombies. Luckily, we didn't get specters, they can be hard to deal with.

"Just as the lower-level Demonic Beasts can vary, so can the guardian. The most common guardian is a skeleton king. It is similar to the champions, only more skillful. The next most common is the zombie lord, it is not as strong as the skeleton king, but it is harder to kill, unless you have fire or holy magic."

"And this guardian is a lich?"

"Yep, it is the rarest of the guardians for this dungeon. Only appears once every thirty or so clears. And because of that, the materials it has are worth the most."

"So, Justiciar Mathis will be making a lot of money on this run."

Before Arica or Ethan could respond to Damion, Justiciar Mathis imprisoned the lich guardian in a Holy shroud like he had with the skeleton champions. Unable to move, the lich guardian could not defend itself and any magic it might have was blocked by Justiciar Mathis' artifact.

"Have all the things of value been stored?" Justiciar Mathis asked Arica.

"Yes, go ahead. Once you kill the guardian I will store it in my personal space and then you can destroy the core."

"Very well," Justiciar Mathis then decapitated the lich guardian and released it from his artifact's magic.

While Justiciar Mathis walked into the chapel to destroy the dungeon core, Arica stored the body and head in her personal space. A moment later Damion felt a pull around his navel and the world suddenly began spinning. For a split-second Damion did not know what was happening and then everything stopped, and Damion found himself standing outside the dungeon portal.

The metal doors to the dungeon chamber opened and the attendant that let them in greeted them.

"Somebody got a spatial storage artifact? I don't see skeleton heads, or weapons, or anything else."

"Do you have a place that we can unload?" Arica asked the attendant.

"Sure, right this way."

The attendant led their group to a large empty room nearby. The floor of the room was laid out in a grid pattern of squares, with each box appearing to be about three meters in length and width. Arica walked over and began dumping skeletons out of her spatial storage into the squares.

At first Damion thought she was just dumping everything into one big pile, but then Damion saw that she was actually dumping the skeletons into different groups based on their size. Damion realized she was grouping the skeletons based on their ranks. How she could tell their ranks, Damion was not sure, but he made a mental note that it was one more thing he needed to learn.

The armor and weapons used by the different skeletons were also dropped into different boxes. When Arica deposited the skeleton champions, their weapons and armor and the lich guardian, she dropped them all in one box off to the side.

"The champions and the guardian belong to Justiciar Mathis," Arica told the attendant before he could ask. "Include them in the calculation of the fee, but you can't pull the fee from his claim."

"Understood," the attendant said as he was writing notes on his tablet about all the items and Demonic Beasts that Arica had just dropped in the room.

"12 F Rank skeletons, 16 E Rank, 10 D Rank, and 4 C Rank skeleton champions. And 1 C Rank lich guardian. 12 F Rank swords, 6 F Rank shields, 26 F Rank chest plates and 8 E Rank great swords. 4 D Rank war hammers and armor from the skeleton champions. 1 Dark affinity C Rank magic staff, 1 dark affinity D Rank cloak from the lich guardian."

The attendant listed off all the materials and Damion could hardly believe the man had been able to accurately access all it that quickly. Damion guessed that something in the room detected everything and reported it to his tablet and the attendant was just reading it off.

"All of the armor and weapons are only enchanted for durability, no attack glyphs and they all appear to be made of Dark Iron, but poorly refined. The resell value of the weapons and armor is fairly low, but they can be melted down purified, should be enough for 50 ingots of Dark Iron.

"The C Rank staff is marketable, but the Dark affinity is rare, would probably take a while to sell. And the D Rank cloak is very tattered, it is coming up as no value due to the damage to it."

The attendant continued listing off all the pros and cons of the gear and Damion quickly lost track of the values he was listing. He just hoped Arica and Ethan understood what the man was talking about.

"For the F Rank skeletons, the total value is 12 golds, E Rank 32 golds, D Rank 50 golds and C Rank 50 golds. The 50 Black Iron ingots are valued at 100 golds and the C Rank staff is valued at 20 golds. Total worth comes out to 264 golds. The fee for entry was negotiated at 10 percent, so 26 golds 40 silvers."
