Chapter 257 – Level 3
*Ding*
{System reinitializing…}
The voice of the Magic System reminded Damion of where he was and what his goals were. He needed to keep moving forward. There was much he had yet to learn about magic, much even the S Rank people had yet to learn. Perhaps he would even find a way to change the past or bring back the dead.
'System, status.'
[Magic System]
[System Level: 3]
[User: Damion Wells]
[Age: 18]
[Magic Talent: EX]
[Magic Affinity: Ice EX, Water E, Poison D, Spatial D, Fire A, Earth A, Shadow A, Holy C]
[Mana: 4,002/3,812] (5%) - 4,002
[Magic Power: 8,744] (5%) - 9,181
[Mana Recovery: 51 P/S] (5%) - 53
[Strength: 115]
[Dexterity: 119] (5%) - 124
[Vitality: 213]
[Intelligence: 145]
[Experience: 2,500/20,000]
[Store Credits: 236,451]
'20,000 experience points to level 4. That isn't too bad,' Damion thought as he looked over his status. 'Now to find out how much my cores are worth. System, open the Magic Core Converter.'
{Host has 1335 magic cores stored in various storage containers within the Magic System Inventory. How many magic cores would Host like to convert to store credits?}
"First, explain to me the exchange rate. How many credits will I get for each type of core. And does each affinity of core have the same value?"
{No matter the affinity, each core is valued the same by the Magic System. The value of cores to credits is as follows:}
[F Rank = 10 Credit, E Rank = 50 Credits, D Rank = 100 Credits, C Rank = 500 Credits, B Rank = 1,000 Credits, A Rank = 5,000 Credits, S Rank = 100,000 Credits, SS Rank = 500,000 Credits, SSS Rank = 1,000,000 Credits EX Rank = 10,000,000]
Damion read through what each Rank of core was worth and was not too surprised at the values. As he had suspected, it did not matter the rarity of the core to the System, only the Rank. This confirmed for him that he could use market rates to trade rare cores for common cores and then feed the common cores to the Magic Core Converter.
A D Rank Core to the Magic System was only worth 100 credits. But he had traded the D Rank core from the Emperor Chalco Beetle for 45 gold and with that 45 gold, he was able to buy 45 F Rank common cores. If he had traded that rare D Rank core for several common D Rank cores, he would have come out ahead, but as it stood, he had lost valuable credits.
Even with that loss, Damion was still looking at quite the sum of credits. The Magic System told him he had 1,335 cores he could convert to credits, but some of those were his Ice affinity cores and others were the Light and Holy affinity ones that he was saving for use in his artifact. That left him with 1,118 cores to trade in. It was time to see how many credits he could earn.

'System, convert all but the Ice, Light and Holy affinity cores to credits.'
{Affirmative. Processing.}
It took the Magic System a few moments, and when it was finally done, Damion felt both excitement and disappointment.
{1,118 magic cores converted to 68,280 store credits.}
Once upon a time, just a few weeks ago in fact, 68,280 credits was an enormous sum to him. Now, with over 300,000 credits for the store, it seemed like a drop in the bucket. Then again his current credits were barely a drop in the bucket when he considered his goal of buying the Anti-Regression Potion.
'I've got to spend money to make money,' Damion told himself. 'System, purchase Random Passive Spell.'
Passive spells had served him well so far, even if they were not immediately useful, they eventually Ranked up and became an asset.
{Affirmative.}
{Random Passive Spell purchased for 112 Credits.}
{Generating spell…}
{Passive spell generated. Congratulations host you have obtained the spell No Resistance.}
[No Resistance - (F Rank 5 Mana P/S) While active, removes resistances from movement. Wind, friction, nothing will slow you down.]
Damion read through the spell description and could not help but feel a bit frustrated. The spell would keep the wind out of his eyes while flying, but he doubted it would be much use for anything else. Not unless he gained some other spell that let him move at extreme speeds. Even as fast as he could run now, he was not approaching the point where removing natural resistances would make a difference. Plus, he had the Spatial spell Blink now and Portal. He could simply teleport himself to wherever he wanted, no need to worry about resistances.
'System, purchase another Random Passive Spell.'
{Affirmative.}
{Random Passive Spell purchased for 168 Credits.}
{Generating spell…}
{Passive spell generated. Congratulations host you have obtained the spell Instant Channeling.}
[Instant Channeling - (F Rank 25 Mana P/S) At the cost of a constant mana drain, reduce the channeling of all tiers of spells by 25%. Channeling reduction is increased with mastery. At complete mastery user will be able to instantly cast any spell.]
Despite the spell's name, it did not reduce his mana channeling to zero. But that was understandable, since the spell would improve as he increased its Rank. But the cost of the passive was massive. There was no point in keeping it active when he was not casting, but he felt the drain could prove catastrophic in combat, even with his current insane level of mana regeneration.
'System, purchase Increase Magic Regeneration.'
{Affirmative.}
{Increase Magic Regeneration purchased for 75 Credits.}
{Magic Regeneration has increased by 25.}
The increase to his natural magic regeneration would offset one of his new spells, but he decided he wanted more. There was no sense in not abusing the Magic System now that he had more than enough credits to splurge. He had always hesitated before, afraid he would suddenly lose the ability to gain credits, or not have any credits when he desperately needed to buy something from the Shop.
'System, purchase Increase Magic Regeneration.'
{Affirmative.}
{Increase Magic Regeneration purchased for 112 Credits.}
{Magic Regeneration has increased by 30.}
'There," Damion thought as he was sitting in bed. 'That puts me at over 100 mana regenerated per second. I could do more, but I think that is probably good for now. What else do I need?'
Two spells and two increases to magic regeneration, but he had not even spent 500 credits yet.
'Spell slots, if nothing else, being able to learn more spells will be useful, especially since I just learned several from Arica, I need to up my capacity again.'
'System, purchase Increase Spell Slots.'
{Affirmative.}
{Increase Spell Slots purchased for 2,250 Credits.}
'System, purchase Increase Spell Slots.'
{Affirmative.}
{Increase Spell Slots purchased for 3,375 Credits.}
'System, purchase Increase Inventory Slots.'
{Affirmative.}
{Increase Inventory Slots purchased for 225 Credits.}
The increase to the Magic System Inventory was not really needed, but he liked the idea of having 50 slots to store things instead of 40. As Damion mentally calculated how many credits he had spent, he kept looking through the Magic System Shop to see what else he might like to purchase.
He was closing in on B Rank and it was very tempting to purchase a few upgrades for his Magic Power and Mana Capacity, but in the end Damion decided to reach that level without additional assistance.
Artifacts were tempting, especially now that he had unlocked the Services section of the Shop that not only let him purchase Upgrade System Artifact, but also Upgrade Non-System Artifact. It was hard for Damion to deny the impulse in him to upgrade his trusty fire sword.
