{Magic Affinity generated. Congratulations host you have obtained Water affinity.}
"Great," Damion said to himself as he listened to the Magic System. He finally bought another affinity and he ended up getting one just as useless in this situation as his current affinity, he had only one Water affinity spell and conjuring clean water right now was not going to help.

"Wonderful. Another affinity that is useless to getting me out of here."
Another horn sounded and Damion looked towards his path from the goblin camp. In the distance he could see a group of goblins racing towards him. In a couple of minutes those goblins would be on him and he needed to have a way to fight back soon.

Notifications from the Magic System sounded off in Damion's head as he watched the goblins close in on him. Of all the affinities he had just unlocked only one had a chance to help him break out of the null zone and if he wanted to escape the dungeon he needed to work fast.

"Gee thanks," Damion said to the Magic System as it took another chunk of his credits.
There was no time to check his status to see what the Rank of his new affinities were. All Damion had time to do was start casting Earth Shard at the barrier. After four spells the barrier showed signs of cracking. A few more spells and he was confident he would break through the barrier, unfortunately, he did not have that much time. The Clutch of goblins had reached him.
"Capture him!" A D Rank goblin shouted.
Spinning around, Damion cast Earth Shard at the closest goblin to him. The unexpected attack caught the goblin unaware and it fell to the ground when the razor-sharp piece of rock stabbed into its face. Three Earth Shards later a second goblin died. The second goblin had tried to evade his attacks, but his last spell caught the creature mid jump. Before Damion could get another Earth Shard off at the rest of the group, the rest of the goblins were on him.
From the Magic System's Inventory Damion summoned his sword and blocked a heavy swing from one of the goblins. Two of the three remaining goblins, both E Rank moved to flank him, while the D Rank goblin faced off against him.
'System, what other Earth spells do I have access to?' Damion asked mentally while he parried a swing from one of the flanking goblin's axes.
{Earth affinity spells available are Rock Shield, Earth Shard, and Earth Prison.}
The Magic System had barely spoken Rock Shield when Damion cast the spell. The Rock Shield manifested just in time to intercept a stab from the third goblin's spear.
"Send the signal. We are no match for this human," the D Rank goblin said. The spear wielding goblin backed off and raised a winding horn to his lips and blew.
When the horn sounded, Damion recognized it as the same horn he had already heard several times. He was not certain, but he was fairly sure the goblins had just called for reinforcements.
Not wanting to drag things out to the point he was fighting the entire goblin encampment, Damion cast a series of quick Earth Shards aiming to overwhelm the goblins. His focus was the D Rank goblin. The plan was simple, take out his strongest enemy and the other two should be easy to deal with.
The D Rank goblin was able to block the first of the Earth Shards, but the next three hit it in the chest. One bounced off the bone armor it wore while the second broke the bones leaving the goblin's chest unprotected against the third razor sharp rock. The lead goblin fell to the ground while the E Rank goblins suddenly began wave their weapons in the air.
Swooping around the E Rank goblins was Phil. Not wanting to let his familiar get hurt, Damion cast an Earth Shard at each of them in quick succession. The goblins fell to the ground and he looked to the Snow Hawk for an explanation.
"I told you to stay."
'Help fight.'
"Yes, you did help. Let's get out of here," Damion said back.
As glad as he was the null zone did not have an adverse effect on Phil, neither of them had time to stick around. Damion did not know how long it would take the rest of the goblins to respond to the signal, but he wanted to escape from the null zone before he found out.
The barrier had already repaired itself, forcing Damion to start casting Earth Shard. After a half dozen casts, the barrier formed a large series of cracks.
"Follow, quickly," Damion called to Phil as he charged towards the cracked barrier.
Lowering his shoulder, Damion slammed into the barrier at full speed. The force of the impact shattered the barrier, letting Damion and Phil through. Now that they were free of the null zone it was time to head out of the dungeon.
Damion had never retreated out of the entrance portal to a dungeon before, but he knew it was possible. Not many people ever admitted to exiting a dungeon the way they came in. Retreating through the entrance meant admitting defeat and not too many adventurers wanted to admit that.
Once the dungeon portal came into view, Damion and Phil rushed towards it. Unfortunately, between them and the portal were ten goblins. The goblins ranged in strength from D Rank to F Rank and appeared to be waiting for them.
Given the number of goblins between him and freedom, Damion decided to tryout one of his tier 3 spells. Summon Ice allowed him to create a cube of ice and control it at will. Once the ice block materialized, he split it into two dozen smaller ice crystals and launched them towards the goblins while he and Phil continued to charge towards them.
The ice crystals tore through the pack of goblins. Several of the goblins fell to the ground, but Damion did not pay attention to if they were actually dead or not. A few seconds after the ice crystals hit, Ice mage and Snow Hawk dove through the dungeon portal while the goblins were still seeking cover from the unexpected barrage.
Once back in the mountains, Damion took out his tablet and contacted Mage Teft. He just hoped she was finished with her dungeon run and advancement.
