Chapter 180 – Leaving The Labyrinth
Once all the bodies were collected, Damion started to head out of the labyrinth. Because he had to search a bit to find where Mage Kripke had fallen, his body now burned beyond recognition due to the fire, Damion had already determined Mage Blythe was no longer on the sixteenth floor. He did not blame the healer for fleeing, in fact it was probably best that Blythe had.
On fifteen, Damion summoned his Ice Sword and started flying in the direction of the passageway out, he figured if Mage Blythe was still around, that is where he would find him. Damion's luck held out and he spotted Mage Blythe running for his life from a D Rank Lava Scutalus.
Damion swooped down and killed the Lava Scutalus with an Ice Shard before flying in front of Mage Blythe making the healer stop in disbelief.
"Damion! You're alive! Are they right behind us? Hurry, we need to go!" Mage Blythe panted. He was out of breath due to running from the Lava Scutalus.
"It is fine, the goblins finished them all off," Damion told Mage Blythe. Once the corpses were examined it would be plain to see goblins had not killed most of them, but Damion would give those answers to the Justiciar, right now Mage Blythe just needed reassurances that they were no longer being hunted.
"Really?"
"Yes," Damion reassured him. "Hop on, Joe. Let's get out of this labyrinth as soon as possible. No point in sticking around."
Mage Blythe did as instructed and joined him on the flying Ice Sword. Damion then locked the Light mage's feet in place and took off towards the passageway to the fourteenth floor. The two continued to move through the labyrinth floors, avoiding all the Demonic Beasts. Whenever they passed over teams of people hunting, they would look up and wonder who was flying in a Breach, but most adventurers just ignored them. They had more important things to worry about, like making money.
There was one group that did not completely ignore the pair on the flying Ice Sword, the large team that had been in the safe area of fifteen and warned Damion of the B Rank team. When he saw the Ice Sword flying overhead he thought it was the B Rank mage Devon Blanche. The C Rank team leader had no idea that Damion had survived.
Once back at the first floor and the exit to the dungeon Damion landed and a much-relieved Blythe knelt down on the ground, trying to hug it.
"Please don't ever make me do that again," Blythe said as he got to his feet.
"The only way that would ever happen again is if we are in a similar life and death situation and we need to fly to get away. Now if you are saying you want to be a permanent member of my team, I guess I can promise not to save you if the only way to do that is by flying."
Mage Blythe did not seem to catch the humor in Damion's tone and looked at him in horror.
"I think I'll pass on joining your team. I don't know who is angry enough at you to hire a B Rank, but I want no part of it."

"I understand. The Justiciar will have some questions for us. Just tell them the truth and you should be fine," Damion told the healer as he walked through the exit of the labyrinth.
As soon as Damion appeared back in Argentum, he pulled out his communication tablet and tried to contact Mage Teft. Unfortunately, she did not answer, forcing Damion to leave a message.
"I just came out of the labyrinth and a few complicated things happened. I'm probably going to need your help with the Justiciars."
Mage Blythe gave Damion a puzzled look as he left the message but opted not to say anything. A moment later an attendant arrived, to escort Damion to the sorting platform.
"What is the procedure for alerting the Association and the Justiciar Order about attacks inside the labyrinth?" Damion asked the attendant.
"What?" the man asked confused for a moment before Damion's question fully registered. "I can take your complaint, and the Order can investigate and interview all the parties later to find out who was the instigator. Then they will determine a suitable punishment."
"Well, it was an assassination attempt and the only two survivors are Mage Blythe and I."
"Oh, you are seeking protection from the assassins. I'll contact the Order immediately; we can then apprehend them when they come out."
"They…" Damion was about to say that they won't be coming out but stopped himself. It was better to just explain to the Justiciars. "That will be fine."
"Shall we proceed with sorting your haul?" the attendant asked.
"Our Spatial mage was killed, so we lost everything we had collected up to that point. The only things I have are what we took in and what I took off our attackers. I think it best for the Justiciar Order to be the ones to examine those items."
"Oh. Of course," the attendant then backed away and moved over to his terminal by the entrance to the labyrinth containment chamber to wait for the Justiciars while keeping an eye on Damion.
A short time later the Justiciar Order showed up in force. An A Rank leading a column of two dozen armored D and C Rank knights. This was the first time Damion had ever seen more than a few of the Order at any given time and this show of force was impressive. The A Rank stopped at the attendant who pointed to Damion and Blythe sending the knight their way.
"I understand you are wanting to report an assassination attempt. Who was the target?"
"I was. Damion Wells, elite student at Silver Spire Magic Academy," Damion answered handing over his Adventurer License as identification.
"What floor will we find the assailants and how many of them are there?"
"I apologize, sir, there has been a slight miscommunication. The…"
"Were you not targeted?"
"I was, but…"
"Then let us help you. Did you identify any of your attackers? Are they from noble families? Is that why you do not want to provide me with their information?"
"I can identify most of them, but there is no need to go in the labyrinth after them."
"So, they've already left the Breach? I can get the logs for all the departures today and you can point them out to me."
"That won't be necessary," Damion said trying to explain. "Look in these, and it should explain everything."
Damion took off the two spatial storage rings he had taken from the Fontane brothers. Inside one ring were the corpses of all his attackers and their gear. In the other was Mage Kripke. Damion had not wanted to put the Spatial mage's body in with the others since he was a victim and deserved better.
After examining the rings for a moment, the Justiciar looked at Damion with an appraising gaze before pocketing the rings. "I think you better come with me to our headquarters. You as well," the A Rank said to Mage Blythe.
"I figured as much."
"What's going on? Are we under arrest?" Mage Blythe asked as the A Rank Justiciar led them towards his men.
"They just want to interview us to find out what happened," Damion reassured the healer. "Just answer their questions truthfully and you will be fine."
