Reborn With a Magic System

Damion's stomp brought a half dozen Demonic Beasts towards him. Like the other Demonic Beasts he had already encountered in this dungeon, they were all feline Demonic Beasts. Tace Panthers, Damion recalled the large lean cats were called, they made up nearly the entirety of the silent valley dungeon.

Different patterns indicated their Rank. Light brown meant they were F Rank, dark brown E Rank. The D Ranks that Damion was currently facing were light brown with black spots. C Ranks would be dark brown with black strips. The kings of this jungle were the B Rank Tace Panthers and were solid black.

The Tace Panthers were not naturally silent hunters or even exceptionally talented at moving quietly, they had a Sound affinity. These Demonic Beasts used their affinity to dampen the sound of their movements. At D Rank they could actually emit a field around them that nullified all the sound around them. For D Rank Tace Panthers the field had about a two meter radius, but at C Rank it jumped to five meters and B Rank had a radius of ten meters.

For mages the most dangerous thing about Tace Panthers was not that they could move silently because of the field they created, but that the field could prevent mages from casting spells. Mages that had not mastered silent casting would find that inside the soundless field of the Tace Panthers they could not speak and thus they could not call out their spells.

Some of the noble families actually used this ability of the Tace Panthers to train their young in silent casting. The Demonic Beasts did not have any abilities to attack from range thus if they were caged then their sound nullification field could be used to force mages to practice silent casting.

Damion eyed the six D Rank Tace Panthers as they approached. The first one leapt at him from about three meters away, but he was able to easily slice it in two with his Ice Sword. The first Demonic Beast's body had not even hit the ground when two jumped towards Damion from the opposite side.

Of the two Tace Panthers attacking this time Damion blocked the attack of one with his Ice Shield and swatted it aside. The other cat he slashed with his Ice Sword, leaving it with a gash down its side. The injured Demonic Beast fled back into the fog filled forest to nurse its wounds, leaving Damion with three other D Rank Tace Panthers to face.

These three kept their distance from him. Watching him from the fog, confident that it hid them from Damion's gaze even as he looked right at them. True Sight allowed him to see fine in the fog, letting him know exactly where the three watchful predators were.

Since these three Demonic Beasts were not attacking, Damion threw his Ice Sword out and let it fly out past the Tace Panthers. The Demonic Beasts did not pay any attention to his Ice Sword as it flew past them. They had no fear of it since it did not appear to be flying at any of them, but once it was behind them, Damion commanded his Ice Sword to strike.

The Ice Sword flew back quickly piercing through the chest of one Demonic Beast. Damion then commanded the sword to spin and it slashed through the throats of the other two Demonic Beasts before they even realized what happened.

The six D Rank Demonic Beasts taken care of, Damion moved further into the valley. He knew it would not be long before C Rank Tace Panthers started appearing in his path, which was exactly what he had been waiting for. The entire point of him having the battle simulator recreate the silent valley dungeon was so he would have plenty of dangerous C Rank Demonic Beasts to fight. Of course, he was eager to test himself against a B Rank Demonic Beast as well.

After Damion traveled about 200 meters down the valley and killed another dozen D Rank Tace Panthers he encountered a group of C Rank Demonic Beasts. This group of Demonic Beasts consisted of four very large Tace Panthers.

The first one leapt at him from behind. If not for Damion wearing his normal armor with the glyphs powered and having the additional protection from the artifacts equipped through the Magic System, his battle simulator run would have ended right then. Even with his armor the Tace Panther's claws dug into the flesh of his back.

Damion spun quickly when he felt the Tace Panther's impact, minimizing the attacks effectiveness as much as possible. The Demonic Beast was slung off his back, landing a few meters away on its feet, ready to strike at Damion again.

The moment the first Tace Panther landed on the ground, two others leapt at Damion. When he saw these two Demonic Beasts coming at him, he dove out of their path. As he rolled to his feet he cast a quick Ice Shard, catching one of the two in its flank. The Tace Panther Damion hit fell to the ground while the other regrouped with the remaining three Demonic Beasts.

Damion threw out his Ice Sword at the group of Demonic Beasts causing them to scatter. While the Ice Sword was flying out, he cast Ice Shard at one of the Tace Panthers. His Ice Shard missed, but it kept the Demonic Beasts from wanting to move in too close and also kept their attention on him instead of on his Ice Sword that was now circling back towards them.

As the Ice Sword flew back to him, it cut through one of the Tace Panthers. Damion directed his Ice Sword towards one of the two remaining Demonic Beasts, but the Tace Panthers dodged out of its path faster than he could redirect his Ice Sword towards them.

One of the Demonic Beasts closed in on Damion, pouncing at him. He raised his Ice Shield, blocking the Tace Panther's claws on the edge of the shield. With his focus on the Tace Panther in front of his face, his control of his Ice Sword faltered, leaving the sword to fall to the ground.

Damion channeled more mana into his Ice Shield, reinforcing it against the Tace Panther's attack, while also encrusting the Demonic Beast's claws in the ice. With the Demonic Beast temporarily trapped, Damion grabbed hold of it with his free hand and cast Icy Grasp. His spell quickly overwhelmed the Demonic Beast's defenses killing it.

Before Damion could locate the last Tace Panther, he was knocked to the ground by the Demonic Beast. His hands reacted by instinct and caught the Tace Panther by the neck before it could sink its teeth into his neck. As the two rolled across the forest floor, Damion cast Icy Grasp again killing the last of the C Rank Demonic Beasts.

Getting to his feet, Damion channeled mana into his belt of purification to get rid of the simulated dirt and blood off his clothing. When the battle simulator ended, everything created by it would vanish, leaving Damion's act of cleaning himself off pointless, but it was habit.

Damion looked at his handiwork and recalled his Ice Sword to his hand as he looked towards the end of silent valley. There was not a set number of Demonic Beasts in any dungeon, but he had a feeling he was nearing the limit of this one. Damion suspected there might be a few more C Rank Demonic Beasts lurking outside of the range True Sight and after that he would encounter either B Rank champions or the B Rank guardian of the dungeon.
