Reborn: My Two Systems at War

Chapter 14: The Armaments of The Killer

Tia stood from her chair, ready to walk out of the cold room, only to freeze at a stern handler's voice. "Give me your gun."

The tall, scary woman reached with her hand, holding her palm open, waiting for the gun.

'Is there truly only so little trust in me?'

Tia reluctantly reached for her gun, her fingers lingering over it for a few moments, hesitating.

"I said, Give it to me." The handler's voice remained calm and detached, just as before, but an underlying hint of menace lurked within its tone, subtly conveying a concealed threat.

With a mixture of reluctance and caution, she firmly gripped the gun and, with measured movements, slowly lowered it into the woman's outstretched palm.

'If something goes wrong, I can still blast her away with my telekinesis and pray for some luck.'

The tall woman silently ogled the weapon nested in her hand, her face not showing any emotion, as if she were just a statue. "Model used by local planetary guards. Illegally modified by overclocking the internal plasma generator. Nor a bad gun, but still a children's toy."

With a graceful gesture, the woman handed it back to Tia. She then waved her hand over a metallic box resting on the table. As if responding to her gesture, several lights on the box turned green, and the metal lid began to split open slowly.

Tia couldn't help but lean slightly forward, her curiosity too strong as she stopped close behind the handler.

"This gun is yours—you will be using it."

A single handgun rested inside, its smooth, pitch-black surface reflecting the dim light of the lightbulb. Bright blue light shone in the single line in the gun's center.

'Large...' She immediately noticed how big and bulky it was, making her old gun truly look like a toy in comparison.

Until now, with her limited knowledge of weapons, she considered her old weapon to be good. Especially when she compared it with the weak guns of the hospital security that barely damaged the walls.

"This is a military-grade handgun used by republic's military commandos, modified to block any energy radiation and by so effectively obscuring it from most common sensors and improved cooling." For the first time, the woman showed emotion present in her voice, her cold eyes smiling and her fingers brushing the dark metal.

'So she likes guns. Good to know.'

Tia immediately reached for it, the woman not stopping her, only smiling. As her fingers made contact with the gun's smooth metal surface, a transformation occurred. The once dormant weapon sprang to life, revealing a small yet intricate holographic projection of a scope that illuminated the box. The sight left Tia in awe, realizing that there was more to this weapon than met the eye.

A mechanical voice silently spoke, "User identified... Field Operator 13... User authorized..."

As Tia lifted the gun out of the box, blue lights traced along its long barrel, emitting a soft, mesmerizing glow. Despite its weight, it felt strangely satisfying in her hands, perfectly balanced and surprisingly comfortable to hold.

'Military grade? Is it truly so easy to get a weapon like this?' Tia brought it out of the box and leaned over it, observing the heavy, mechanical design of the weapon. It lacked any elegance, but its aggressive and simplistic design made it look like a weapon of war.

"It has four firing mods. The stun mode, kill mode, armor-piercing, and finally the wall-buster mode."

The handler pointed at the bar on the side of the holographic scope, "This shows the current plasma in the capacitors. It recharges over time from the integrated central generator. Each firing mode consumes a different amount per shot. So the weaker ones allow almost full auto fire, while the more powerful, like wall-buster, need time to recharge between shots."

Despite her lack of expertise, Tia couldn't help but be drawn to its allure, feeling satisfied to hold it. Its sleek but practical design and weight exuded an air of sophistication and power. The gentle hum of its generators added an alluring element of technology and complexity.

POV The Handler:

The moment the metal doors closed behind the platinum-haired woman, the light dimmed down, revealing a silhouette in black standing behind the mirror. The handler sat on the chair and put her legs up on the table without any care.

Almost immediately, a man's voice came out of a small speaker in the corner, "You were right. She has what is required."

"Good, I will start her training, she is too far behind."

"I will go to inform the higher-ups that we have another potential subject."

"How many of them are there even?"

"Seven, it looks like we will have to... thin their numbers."

"Give me a month to prepare her, then we will start... cutting the numbers."

POV Tia:

Exhausted, Tia plopped herself into her soft bed, not even bothering to change her clothes. Her muscles hurt, and her only recently healed face was still stinging.

Just as she was ready to close her eyes, a ding sprung her back into consciousness.
