Chapter 203: Ch 203: That weak man - Part 1
"Welcome, everyone, to the competition that would decide your fate. If you hope to make a name for yourself, then this is the chance for you to grab it. Do you have what it takes to win the lord's favor and rise to the top?"
The anchor chosen to announce the event and entertain people was loud. And with an added magic to make his voice even more audible, it made him annoying.
Rosette closed her ears out of annoyance as soon as she heard that loud voice reaching her ears.
"Tsk, couldn't you have chosen someone who was a little less loud? I felt like my ears would bleed if I continued to listen to that loud noise longer."
The female complained as she rubbed her ears. Her actions made the local lord want to swear and hit her. But he considered his choice because he was a gentleman, and that was not something he did.
"Of course, miss! I will ask the anchor to quiet down. But if we do that, most of the competitors won't hear the announcements we are making…I understand. I will go down and convey the message right now."
The anchor gritted his teeth in anger as soon as he noticed the 'I don't give a fuck' look on Rosette's face.
She was not interested in how much she was costing this venue with her request; she just wanted things done her way. And since the boss aimed to impress her, he decided to do as asked.
The anchor's face went pale and red as soon as the message reached him. He looked up, only to flinch when his eyes fell on Rosette's face. She knew her actions had worked, and now this man feared her.
"Rose, these people have done nothing to you. You should go easy on them and forgive them. If not for their sake, then to get out of here soon.
If we cause a mess here, we would be late looking for Layla."
Adam reminded his partner, which made Rosette grit her teeth and settle down.
"Tsk, you are right. I understand that you are right. But that does not mean I have to like that fact.
But fine! Since you asked me to settle down, I will give these people a chance."
Rosette's eyes flashed unhappily, but she settled down quietly and waited for the competition to start.
The leader gave Adam a grateful look before asking the competition to start again.
But he could immediately tell he had failed to entertain his guests and hold their attention by now.
The pair looked as uninterested as ever and did not pay attention to most of the competition. This made the leader feel bitter, but what could be done now?
'I spent a fortune on all this shit, only to get ignored like this? I swear…I will never do something nice for someone ever again. I wish I could get all my investment back. I am already stressed out by the news of Ronaldo Smith returning, and I don't need any added danger.'
The man could have cursed, but instead, he kept his cool and decided to walk out and start the challenge.
It was time for a new champion to rise.
...
*yawn*
Layla tried to stop her body from feeling tired, but that yawn escaped her mouth no matter how much she wanted to contain it.
Her body felt lethargic, and Layla shrugged it around to relieve the pins and needles she felt all over it.
"The competition is starting? Is anyone here nervous?"
Someone asked, and Layla dragged herself out of her sleeping phase. Her eyes roamed all over the different bunch gathered here with interest.
"Listen here; you all should back out while you can. You might not know who I am, but I will tell you anyway! I am the great fighting lord, and you all are about to become my prey."
A well-built man bragged as he showed off his muscles, which intimidated many people.
But Layla only felt irritation when she looked at that loud man.
'Tsk, this man is nothing but muscles and a little physical strength. I cannot sense any magic or other force coming off him. He would be easy to deal with.'
Layla was willing to bet that this man would not make it past round two, even if he somehow passed round one. There were so many more powerful things around for this guy to succeed.
"Hey, so no one is going to back off? What a shame. Hey, kid, you should back off. This is no playing around but a tournament ring. You might get hurt out there if you are not careful."
Seeing no one was taking him seriously, the bulky man changed tactics and turned toward Layla to ask her to back out.
Layla had disguised herself as a young teenage boy with black hair and an ordinary face. She had not given her form any muscle, but she could tell that her disguise was working.
"Excuse me, but are you talking to me?"
Layla asked as she looked at the man in front of her. Her indifference made the man grit his teeth in anger, and she was sure that if he could, he would have tried to hit her by now.
Instead, the man took some deep breaths before he turned around.
"Well, you are ignorant, but I guess I can forgive you for now. After all, you are just a kid while I am a grown-up. I need to show you some mercy for the sake of our age and experience."
The man quickly left so that he wouldn't make a bigger fool of himself than he already had. Layla could only look at him before she shrugged and wore her armor instead.
She was sure she would need it to make these idiots leave her alone. It happened right in time for Layla's match to be held. She was the first one up in the arena.
