Chapter 12. World's First Boss Kill
While players all over the world were still in an uproar over the news of a world-class BOSS, Chen Zixuan, together with the Guard Captain, was locked in battle against an unprecedentedly powerful enemy in the wilderness outside of Crown Town.
Nearly ten minutes had already passed since the battle began, and things had reached a fever pitch.
Pain!
So much pain!
Damn, it hurts!
In this moment, pain was the only thing on Chen Zixuan's mind.
He had no idea how much the damn system in this game had cranked up the pain feedback, but every time the Goblin Hero swung its sword and sent him flying, Chen Zixuan felt his body being torn apart by ripping pain.
His expression was now twisted into a grimace of agony, as if he were wearing a mask of suffering.
After hanging on for so long, the little HP he had left had dropped to an extremely dangerous level.
Even the five beginner Health Potions he carried had dwindled to a pitiful single bottle, which only barely brought him a sliver of psychological comfort.
No wonder this was a world-class BOSS. If he couldn't take down the Goblin Hero today, Chen Zixuan could only call it a bloodbath loss.
Fortunately, the Guard Captain had also helped him share a great deal of damage; otherwise, Chen Zixuan would have been instantly killed by the BOSS's gigantic sword.
However, the Guard Captain's state was just as dreadful. With barely over 100 HP left, if he took two more hits from the BOSS, he'd likely die on the spot.
"Captain! Please stop fighting! Let's just retreat!"
Seeing the Guard Captain unsheath his sword looking to go all out against the Goblin Hero, the silver-haired girl dashed forward, clinging desperately to his leg and begging bitterly.
With a teammate so eager to throw himself away, Chen Zixuan truly believed his luck couldn't get any worse in eight lifetimes.
"Adventurer, summon your courage! For the town, for the Empire, for the thousands of people behind us, we cannot shrink away! Fight! Fight on!"
With a kick, the Guard Captain hurled Chen Zixuan aside, roaring furiously as he raised his sword and charged headlong at the Goblin Hero!
Chen Zixuan was left sitting dumbfounded and disheveled in place.
"Captain! What are you doing, Captain?!"
Yet, for a moment, Chen Zixuan had to admit he was moved by the Captain's fearless spirit.
"Uwah!"
The silver-haired girl rolled and leapt up from the ground, letting out an unintelligible roar, and charged at the BOSS, dagger waving madly.
Feeling "touched" as well, the Goblin Hero promptly raised a massive size-90 boot and kicked the Guard Captain flying.
"Now's my chance!"
At last, Chen Zixuan saw a perfect opening!
Seizing the brief moment of stiffness in the BOSS's movement, he leapt up from the BOSS's shin, his dagger flickering like a phantom and plunging deep into the BOSS's thick neck.
[Dagger/Shortblade Mastery] activated! Critical hit—damage doubled!

A blood-red drop icon instantly appeared above the BOSS's head, and its HP started to drain away at a rate of 10 points per second.
With sheer luck, Chen Zixuan's strike finally triggered the 5% passive effect of [Executioner]!
He estimated that the Goblin Hero's max HP was around 1,000. Together with the Guard Captain, they had whittled roughly 500 points off during the fight.
Plus, with the 300 bleeding damage ticking, in another half minute the BOSS would have round 200 HP left, at best.
Did... did he win?
The BOSS apparently sensed its own life rapidly ebbing away, glaring malevolently at the silver-haired girl before swatting her aside like a fly.
Chen Zixuan crashed down, his HP dropping to a pitiful 7 points. If not for that last skill-activated [Blood Banquet] healing him for 14 HP, he'd have died instantly.
Before he could even get up, the badly wounded Goblin Hero unleashed an earth-shaking roar!
Berserk Mode? Chen Zixuan was stunned for a second, then wild joy erupted in his heart.
In most games, a BOSS only enters Berserk mode at critically low health. Which meant his guess had been spot on.
The BOSS really had almost no HP left.
In Berserk mode, a BOSS fought with reckless abandon, gaining massive attack and defense buffs. For ordinary players running on empty, it was like the darkest night before the dawn.
But Chen Zixuan wasn't afraid at all. The purple Epic skill he drew, [Silverflash Pierce], was a kill-type move that dealt true damage, ignoring all resistances!
He promptly hurled his dagger at the BOSS.
[Silverflash Pierce] activated!
A huge white number flashed above the Goblin Hero.

A gust blew across the barren field, followed by the thunderous crash of a great beast falling to earth...

Even though he had mentally prepared himself for victory, the unending stream of system messages in Chen Zixuan's ears left him feeling dazed and dreamlike.
Am I rich now?
With shaking hands, he opened his inventory, and sure enough, a row of glittering purple gear lay neatly arranged, as if asserting their ownership.
