Reborn as the God-Emperor in Marvel

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Calculation After Calculation

All of Asgard's citizens had gathered in the vast Golden Palace. Suddenly, a wave of cheers surged from the entrance, as if the roar of the ocean had filled the palace. Arms were raised, and shouts swelled like a tide. Solomon saw a large man dressed in silver armor and a red cape, wearing a silver winged helmet, walking down the long red carpet. He was holding up his hammer, and the Asgardian crowd was cheering wildly. He smiled broadly and waved both hands energetically.

The man tossed his hammer into the air and caught it with ease, as if this coronation ceremony were nothing more than a celebration after an adventure, where he could act casually and indulge in freedom. All-Father Odin, however, did not smile once. His snow-white beard didn't move, and his single eye was filled with hesitation.

Standing on either side of the steps were Frigga, Loki, and Sif. These were the royal family members, with Sif having been chosen by Frigga as Thor's future wife. On the other side were the Warriors Three—Fandral, Volstagg, and Hogun, Thor's companions in battle and adventure. At that moment, nearly everyone's attention was focused on Thor, slowly walking towards the steps. This coronation ceremony was for him, and even Loki had his eyes on Thor, though his mind was elsewhere, occupied with his own schemes.

Loki noticed the mysterious Sorcerer Supreme and Solomon but didn't give them much thought. His focus remained on his own plans. It was clear Odin had never mentioned Earth's Kamar-Taj to him, or else he might have recognized the replica of the Eye of Agamotto and other magical artifacts in the treasure vault. Even if he had learned of the Sorcerer Supreme and Solomon's origins, Loki wouldn't have cared much, as Asgard's status as a superior realm had caused him to overlook the significance of Earth's autonomy.

The Sorcerer Supreme and Solomon watched as Thor was enveloped in the cheers, making his way to the base of the steps. He knelt on one knee, placed Mjolnir on the ground, and removed his helmet, winking at his mother and smiling at his companions. Odin, clad in gold armor, wearing a horned helmet and eyepatch, stood up from his throne. He struck his spear, Gungnir, against the floor, and the sound echoed through all of Asgard. The crowd's cheers fell silent. The All-Father gazed down at Thor from the throne, while the two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, turned their attention to Thor as well.

"Is he an idiot?" Solomon whispered to the Sorcerer Supreme. "He doesn't seem very bright."

"Maybe," the Sorcerer Supreme nodded slightly. Their voices were completely inaudible to anyone else—a small trick from Kamar-Taj's library. The Sorcerer Supreme often checked the new magic that Solomon added with interest.

"Thor… Son of Odin. My heir. My eldest son," Odin's voice was calm, but the emotions were clear to everyone. "You have always wielded Mjolnir, forged in the heart of a dying star. It is a weapon of great power, a tool of both destruction and creation. Only a king is worthy of holding it. For countless lives, I have defended Asgard and the Nine Realms. Now, a new king is about to ascend…"

"Don't underestimate him," the Sorcerer Supreme murmured, unimpressed by Odin's boast. She knew all too well how ruthless Odin could be towards his enemies. As a ruler herself, she understood the necessity of such actions. She shared the same bloodstained methods when required, and those burdens would one day fall on Solomon's shoulders as well. "In the future, Thor will be king of Asgard, and you will inherit one of my titles. If you perform well, your status will rival his."

"I think I could bribe him with a case of whiskey, or toss him into a vat of Jack Daniel's," Solomon remarked, watching Thor. "Reckless, impulsive, acting without thinking of the consequences. Asgard has been at peace for too long. I haven't seen any major military actions from Asgard in the last thousand years. Thor's battles are more like adventures. The environment Odin grew up in is worlds apart from Thor's, and that's why it's hard for Thor to mature as a proper heir."

Solomon didn't refer to Odin by name because he was unsure of Odin's magical power. Given that Odin had founded runic magic, his abilities were likely on par with the Sorcerer Supreme. It was best to be cautious when facing such a powerful being. Solomon suspected Odin was far stronger than the Queen of Sheba or even Jubileus.

"I remember telling you about the origins of the Asgardian pantheon. I'm not too old to forget that," the Sorcerer Supreme said. "From Buri to Bor, from Bor to Odin, and now from Odin to Thor—their potential grows stronger with each generation, and their gifts are enviable. But your talents are no less than his. Don't be discouraged; your greatest gift is your knowledge."

Solomon knew the Sorcerer Supreme wasn't the best teacher, but he hadn't expected her to be this bad. One moment it was discouragement, the next it was encouragement. If he were really a rebellious fifteen-year-old, this conflicting teaching style might have left him utterly confused.

He had little interest in the coronation ceremony. This boring event couldn't compete with the magic books in his hands or the game console back in his room at Kamar-Taj. He already knew how this coronation would end. And he wasn't the only one—the others who knew included Loki, the Sorcerer Supreme, Frigga, and Odin.

Odin asked, "Do you swear to protect the Nine Realms?"

"I swear," Thor answered without hesitation.

"Do you swear to uphold peace?"

"I swear," Thor repeated, just as confidently.

Odin's final question came: "Do you swear to put aside personal ambition and work for the welfare of the Nine Realms?"

"I swear!" Thor laughed and raised Mjolnir high.

"Then today… I, Odin All-Father, hereby declare…" Odin's single eye suddenly shifted to the side, focusing on the Sorcerer Supreme. "Frost Giants!"

It happened as expected! Odin's intense gaze locked on the Sorcerer Supreme. Everything was playing out just as she had predicted. Long before the coronation, she had warned Odin about this situation, detailing the potential risks Thor would face. Odin knew Thor wasn't a suitable heir—too impulsive, with too many flaws—but Thor had to inherit the throne. Only Thor could lead Asgard through Ragnarok.

Frigga, being the queen, also knew this possibility. Before the Sorcerer Supreme had emerged, Frigga, the goddess of the heavens and earth, had been the greatest sorceress in the Nine Realms. However, that title had been claimed by the Sorcerer Supreme after her duel with Odin. Although the Sorcerer Supreme couldn't entirely defeat Odin, Odin couldn't do much against her either.

After the Sorcerer Supreme and Solomon arrived in Asgard, while Solomon had been shown to his chambers by the handmaiden, Odin, Frigga, and the Sorcerer Supreme had a secret meeting. The details of their discussion were known only to the three of them. Frigga had dismissed all the handmaidens and forbidden anyone from entering the room, including Thor and Loki.

"Is that your heir? The child who descended to Earth? The one connected to Heaven?" Odin had asked. "He seems a lot like Loki. Are all sorcerers this cunning?"

"What?" Frigga had widened her eyes in surprise. Even when she had used magic to prank Odin's golden statue, he hadn't said anything like this.

"Yes, the one who will inherit my power," the Sorcerer Supreme had replied, lifting her goblet and drinking as if it were light tea rather than strong liquor.

"Why not introduce him to Thor? Perhaps they could become friends, and he could join the ranks of Asgard's warriors?"

"No, even if I agreed, he wouldn't," the Sorcerer Supreme had said. "We are mystics, and we need to study, not embark on aimless adventures. He cannot wield his bloodline powers freely."

"You see, history is repeating itself," Odin had said. "A naive king of Asgard and a scheming magician from Midgard. Are you sure he can safeguard Earth's position?"

"He might do better than I. I trust his abilities," the Sorcerer Supreme had said. "At the very least, he hasn't yet been crushed by knowledge. He's adapting well to life at Kamar-Taj and won't fall into madness because of it."

"Apologies, old friend, you understand my concerns," Odin had said, shifting the topic. "My time is running out. You know what must be done."

"I've already made plans. I'm only mortal. These years and burdens weigh heavily on me. Now that my two successors are chosen, all I need to do is guide them." The Sorcerer Supreme had said, "You can proceed with your plan."

The coronation was interrupted as Odin led his soldiers to the treasury. Frigga wasn't surprised. This was one of the many possibilities. She knew who was behind it all. Glancing at Loki, she arranged for the remaining soldiers to evacuate the civilians and secure the palace, ensuring no intruders escaped.

"See? I told you this coronation would be exciting," the Sorcerer Supreme said, pointing

at Thor, who stormed off in fury, following in Odin's footsteps. "Now you can start planning how to deal with such a king of Asgard."

For those concerned about the protagonist's slow growth, don't worry—there's still plenty of time. The Infinity Gauntlet isn't the only major event. Thanos won't be the only enemy, and hints about the Ark have already been planted. When the first New York battle happens, you'll see the true power of the protagonist's System. Memory is just one part of it.

Also, since the comic book versions are chaotic and involve mutants, I'll have to make some adjustments—it feels like I'm writing a script for Marvel Studios.

Finally, for those confused about the nine alignments, don't worry. Lawful Good isn't the same as being a saint, and Neutral Good is more like a benefactor. I'll add an explanation of the alignments in the supplementary sections when I have time.

One more thing—since the end of the month is coming, I'll be cutting down on word count until the novel goes live. Once it's on the shelves, there might be more updates. Remember to vote and hit the little heart button—it's annoying when the numbers aren't round!
