Chapter 124: Assassination theater.
"Kill them."
Those were the words that left his lips, all while his gaze was fixed on the stage, watching as the horrific scenery played before his eyes.
Maria didn't have much of a reaction after hearing what Dorian had asked her to do.
While it wasn't something she had ever thought she'd hear from Dorian's mouth, she understood why he wanted to resort to something this dramatic.
Seraphina overheard what he said as well, a look of concern playing on her face.
She leaned in closer.
"Darling, I understand why you're angry. I am just as disgusted as you are. Still, if you take matters into your own hands, there is a chance the entire thing could come back to bite you in the end. I feel we should-"
"I counted over 37 nobles present here, and that's without the others outside in the other rooms, if there are any," Dorian suddenly interrupted her, his eyes now glancing in her direction.
"If this many nobles are willing to partake in something like this, best believe they have connections in every part of the kingdom already. How did they get their hands on so many elves? How did they pass the borders?"
Every question he asked was met with a contemplative look on Seraphina's face.
Dorian pressed on.
"Taking all this into consideration, it wouldn't be far off to say they have bought the official offices as well. If we simply take them into custody, publicly or not, if they are this many, they can easily sway the people back with money and pay for their freedom as well, long before it gets to the king."
Seraphina looked to the side, knowing he was right.
Simply looking at the faces of the nobles, Dorian's assumption was very likely to be correct.
Using how rich Baron Foriam had become was a good place to start.
Sighing, she turned her gaze back towards him. "Is the only solution to kill them all, here, right now?"
"Might not be the best solution, but it's definitely something we'll be doing." Dorian stood up. "I can see no other way to quench my anger."
He then fully faced them.
"If they all die here today, there is little chance an investigation would be carried out, and even if it were, nothing would be linked to us. That said, I don't intend to keep whatever happens here tonight a secret.
First, we kill every single noble here, taking judgment into my own hands if you will.
Then, we gather all the elves and take them back to the barony for shelter. Of course, we won't be killing Lord Telia, because he will be the one confessing to the entire thing."
Maria smiled a bit. "You always have a way of doing things that even I find it hard to follow. If my sword is all you need, I'll gladly offer myself. Please use me as you see fit."
Dorian smiled back. "Understood. For now, I need you to lay waste to the security men and bring in the soldiers we have surrounding this place already."
As he uttered those words, he stretched the key towards her.
"If only three of us were to do the killing, the chances of the nobles figuring out they are being murdered are high, and if that happens, many of them probably already have an escape plan we don't know about."
"Oh, so you are suggesting we kill them in silence? Like an assassination?" asked Seraphina.
"More or less."
She sighed in response. "I agree with Maria; you do have a way of doing things, Darling. Sigh, but as your fiancée, I have no choice but to support you. I should be able to craft a noise-canceling spell for us. Will that do?"
"Depends. How long does it take you to craft a new spell?"
Seraphina wore a smug expression before she replied, "About 15 minutes, depending on how complex the spell is. But if I'm being promised a private time tonight, I can do it in five."
"You really are a pervert," Maria gave her a judgmental look.
"I don't mind. Hehe, it's Darling, after all."
"P-private time I guess. Just do it as fast as you can."
"Yes, sir!" Seraphina saluted.
The very next minute, she had focused her gaze on her hand, where two magic circles could be seen glowing and pulsing with different symbols floating above it.
"I'll be on my way as well." Maria bowed her head and exited the room, leaving only Dorian and Seraphina in the VIP section.
As she stepped out, she had her blade, still sheathed, in her hand.
Holding it firmly, she walked down the hall, moving past multiple guards whose eyes were followingher in a suspicious manner.
Seeing a woman walking all by herself in such a place would raise the suspicion of any guard.
But as she got close to a door to her left, she noticed she saw Baron Telia, pointing at where Dorian's VIP section was to a guard.
At first, she thought,
'Is this bastard going after Lord Dorian? Why is he pointing over there?'
Questions like that constantly popped up in her head; however, she knew better than to act on her own, especially since Dorian had already given her a specific task.
Shaking her head, she made up her mind to ignore the conversation for now and finish up with the task given to her.
"It's for my lord," she uttered out loud, her eyes glowing obsessively.
As she crossed the threshold and entered the other part of the building where she could see elves being brought down from cages and the other nobles touching and harassing them, she stood silent and observant.
Then slowly, she drew out her green blade, its mana glowing like lightning and pulsing.
"One… two… three… four…" She slowly began counting everyone present in the room at that moment.
By the time she was done, she uttered, "27."
She dropped the sheath on the ground.
The sound it made after making contact caught the attention of one of the guards who was unfortunate enough to have walked past her in that moment.
Seeing the blade in the lady's hand, the guard stopped and placed his hand on her shoulder.
"Please hand over your blade. Weapons are not allowed in here, ma'am."
He then tried to reach for the blade so he could snatch it from her grasp. But just as he wanted to touch it, Maria flicked the sword, held it in a different position, and made a 180-degree turn.
During this swift moment, she had also sliced off the arm of the guard, dropping not one, but both of his arms on the ground at the same time.
Blood poured on the ground like running water as the guard had his eyes widened in shock, observing as the blood spewed out of his arms. Then came the scream.
"Ahhhhh! My arms! This bitch cut off my arms!"
The alert caught the attention of the onlookers in a matter of a few seconds.
Everyone now had their eyes solely fixed on Maria, who could be seen standing right in front of the guard who was crying and lying in his own pool of blood.
